A day after official Board of Regents meetings at Texas and Oklahoma had many believing the Red River rivals would head west, the Pac-12 announced they had other plans regarding membership. The following is the official statement from the Pac-12 regarding conference expansion, in which they state their plans to remain at 12 members.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- In light of the widespread speculation about potential scenarios for Conference re-alignment, the Pac-12 Presidents and Chancellors have affirmed their decision to remain a 12-team conference. Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said, “after careful review we have determined that it is in the best interests of our member institutions, student-athletes and fans to remain a 12-team conference. While we have great respect for all of the institutions that have contacted us, and certain expansion proposals were financially attractive, we have a strong conference structure and culture of equality that we are committed to preserve. With new landmark TV agreements and plans to launch our innovative television networks, we are going to focus solely on these great assets, our strong heritage and the bright future in front of us.””

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

wow. i guess they didnt want the ok schools without texas and i guess ut and their espn pimps didnt want to give up lhn programming and lhn dollars. as long as the big xii-iii doesnt do revenue sharing they're going to fracture. this announcement is prolonging the inevitable superconference era. good pr for pac12 for now. this stuff is nearly better then what happens on saturdays

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

Sounds like the Pac 12 wants to throw some water on the fire and cool people off! Either that or it is still a waiting game to see who will make the next move. If the Missouri move to the SEC is legitimate then we might see some action. Plus we still have conversations going about the ACC adding 2 more teams to go to 16. Could be a public relations move but could also be the Pac 12 refusing to budge with Texas. OU negotiated through the media and who knows what was said behind closed doors. It might have been a "you take all of us or you get none and we're not modifying the LHN to make it more favorable for the other members" or who knows what. Or it may merely be the Pac 12 refusing to be the one to push the button on a 16 team conference before someone else.

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

except that the LHN would continue to exist with Texas keeping any disproportionate revenue generated over the conference average...

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

I get the feeling he might be talking a different talk if the SEC or ACC decides to act some more.

BACOFF, That was for ALL< the teams saying they were looking to move in, not just Texas, BUT 3 days ago they did say they would go there with certain provisions, now they back out. OU and Texas ASSUMED the offer from last year was still good, lol serves them right.

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

Although I don't believe anything out the mouths of commissioners, AD's or college presidents, I really do hope the PAC 12 stays @ that number. Once you expand over that magic number, scheduling, travel and everything else gets very complicated. If you don't see a conference foe on your home turf for 5 years, it totally defeats the purpose of being in the same league. The sad part of this whole thing is that the evil 4-letter is trying to pull all the strings.

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

They would not have been giving in to Texas if anything UT was giving up more, you need to read newspapers, internet or watch any sports networks,Texas had conceded that there would be equal revenue sharing and that Pac-12 programming would be on the Longhorn Network, even going so far as to rename the network so it had Pac-whatever in the title. Please research before you make stupid coments.

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

So nobody wants Texas and their network. I guess Texas can join the jacoff conference and just play with themselves.
Go Bears !!!

Pac-12 will not expand in conference realignment

LHN had to be the major contributing factor to this decision  Probably a good move for the Pac12.
