As also reported by CBSSports.com RapidReporter Lyle Fitzsimmons, Florida starting senior quarterback Jeff Brantley left his team's game against Alabama late in the first half with an apparent knee injury. And according to offensive coordinator Charlie Weis, he will not return, having departed on a golf cart.

On 3rd-and-20 deep inside Crimson Tide territory, Brantley was sacked by Alabama's Courtney Upshaw and had his right knee buckle awkwardly underneath him. Brantley immediately clutched the knee and was unable to get up under his own power. He was helped directly to the locker room, without a visit to the sideline, with less than 30 seconds remaining in the half. Head coach Will Muschamp said as he left the field he had no immediate knowledge of Brantley's potential status.

Save for one ill-advised short throw that Upshaw intercepted and returned 45 yards for a touchdown, Brantley had been impressive, completing 11 of his 16 passes against one of the nation's best secondaries. The first of those completions was a 65-yard touchdown to Andre Debose on the Gators' first play from scrimmage.

Brantley will be replaced by true freshman backup Jeff Driskel. Driskel has thrown 10 passes in his young career, completing 5 of them with 2 interceptions.

At halftime, Florida trailed the Tide 24-10.

Teres Minor  What kind of a moron are you think that "If Brantley wasn't a double-legacy recruit Florida wouldn't have hired a coach and OC to build a system around him"?

Let me get this senario down from the begining. It ALL started back at the end of the season in late 2009/2010 when coach Urban Myer started the rumor of him quiting coaching. Florida's athletic director couldn't find the right coaching match up for the "double legacy" back up Q.B. John Brantley. So they talked Urban into 1 more year?

I could see the GATORS wanting a huge big name NFL caliber OC like Charlie Weis to mentor this Pro-Style talented young man John Brantley. But what other NCAA team wouldn't have loved to get Charlie Weis too? Hell, numerous NFL teams would have liked to get such an experienced OC for their team.

John Brantley was the GATORS ONLY chance in the game yesterday vs BAMA. The GATORS went into the game thinking they could run the ball but BAMA shut that down COMPLETELY. We were moving the ball with Brantley until he went down with the injury.

Jeff Brantley? The former pitcher for the SF Giants? Isn't he something like 48 years old? I think he is out of college eligibility.

190 yards in the 1st half (and driving) with no running game around him.  Against arguably the best defense in the country.  I'll take double legacy's that can do that any year.  I'll also take 2 national titles in the past 5 years.  But if you call that underachieving, one of us is confused and needs to check a dictionary.

Thunderpants - Florida's starting quarterback was out for the whole second half and they DON'T have anyone to really back him up yet.  So I DON'T THINK SO.  No flip-flopping, try again!!

I haven't actually read the rules on this but if i'm not mistaken, 2 players can have the same number on their jersey as long as they are not on the playing field at the same time. Alabama also has 2 players with number 4. The reason I say this is because Alabama was actually penalized for this last week against Arkansas. They had 2 players on the playing field at the same time.

BAMA's win this week was stronger than what LSU did last week. So to keep up with the flip floping BAMA should be number 1 this week coming up. Trent Richardson should be holding the heisman trophy today. Look out Nov 5th...what a day. RTR.
