Lattimore suffers knee sprain, 'could be serious'

Heisman candidate Marcus Lattimore left the game for South Carolina late in the second half of their win over Mississippi State. And he may not return for some time.

The initial diagnosis from the locker room is that Lattimore has suffered a left knee sprain. Steve Spurrier told reporters after the game that Lattimore's injury "could be serious" and that the sophomore "could be out a while." Lattimore is scheduled for an MRI either Saturday night or Sunday morning once the team returns to Columbia.

Via the Twitter feed of Gamecock RapidReporter Josh Kendall, here's Lattimore leaving the State road team's locker room:

Lattimore was injured on a 2nd-and-4 snap on the Gamecocks' game-winning touchdown drive. Bruce Ellington took a snap as the quarterback in the Wildcat formation, with Lattimore used as a blocker on the right side of the field. As Ellington ran by, a Bulldog fell and rolled into the back of Lattimore's leg.

Lattimore was immediately taken to the trainers' table and surrounded by teammates and his mother. He eventually left the field on crutches.

Freshman Brandon Wilds was used as the Gamecocks' replacement tailback following Lattimore's injury. He finished with 8 yards on five carries.

Lattimore scored the Gamecocks' first touchdown of the game but had largely struggled against the Bulldogs, gaining only 39 yards on 17 carries to that point.

Lattimore suffers knee sprain, 'could be serious'

Sorry for not getting back sooner, You are right SC has been winning w/o huge numbers from ML, (now that he is lost for the season our disagreement is less viable) but back to my original comments, I feel that SC has such a huge boost of confidence when he is out there. Missing him down the stretch will be very difficult. Arkansas, Florida (if they recover from injury), and Clemson, that is a tough way to have to finish the season without your go to guy. Maybe they should put Ingram on offense I beginning to wonder if there is anything he can't do...

It's obvious why your reputation is zero with such awesome insight.  I'm sure noone has ever made that statement this year.  You are such a prognosticator.  Unfortunately, your insight fails to take into account that Georgia has a much easier schedule down the stretch than South Carolina, who just lost their feature back for the year.

SC will still win the east. That's just how bad the rest of that division blows. . .<br />

Lattimore suffers knee sprain, 'could be serious'

As a Gamecock Fan, I (like other GC Fans) I'm holding my breath for a miracle that it's only a sprained knee as they said, but if it turns out to be an ACL, the rest of the Running Backs have to step up and fill in for ML. During the Baseball Season, JBJ went down in April and the rest of the Team came together and filled in for him and look how they made out? Back to Back National Titles, when know one thought it was possible...

Lattimore suffers knee sprain, 'could be serious'

Too many haters out there.  Look, Marcus Lattimore is a great back, no doubt.  However, he is not the team.  We ahve plenty of other weapons that will just have to step up a little more in his absence(sp?).  We have a good backup in Brandon Wilds.  SC will be just fine.  I hate to see him injured, but the team still has a season to finish.  We will see what the MRI shows.  With a week off, who knows?  I don't see SC taking the foot off the gas because he's gone.  SC will take it one game at a time and keep up their winning ways.

Lattimore suffers knee sprain, 'could be serious'

Look you haters, Lattimore might be back in two weeks, we don't know yet! South Carolina has a bye this week, which is a good thing. You idiots saying the season is over must be smokin something good! We are 6-1 , 3-1 in the SEC. We take one game at a time and are focused on Tennesee now. Take you hate somewhere else We are ranked 13th in the Country and we are going to have a very good rest of the season with or without our back Lattimore.

Don't know which team you've been watching but SC is in a world of hurt, and by the looks of the injury we won't see Lattimore again until next year.

Down the drain...

With apologies to H Ross Perot, that sucking sound you hear is the sound of South Carolina's season going down the drain.  No Lattimore, no Garcia, no SEC Championship.  8-4 sounds about right.
