LSU's Mathieu, Ware, Simon suspended for Auburn

Reports out of Baton Rouge are that Tyrann Mathieu's Heisman campaign is about to hit a major speed bump--and that his team may be about to have a more difficult time with visiting Auburn Saturday than initially thought.

According to the Associated Press, a "person familiar with the decision" has indicated that Mathieu is one of three players who will be suspended for (at the minimum) LSU's game against the visiting Tigers this Saturday. Also due to sit is starting tailback and leading rusher Spencer Ware and nickelback Tharold Simon.

At his Wednesday evening press conference, Les Miles declined to confirm or deny the reports. He said all healthy roster members had practiced.

"There is no real information about any specific player," he said. "When there is information to share, I will. The problem with this is it's internal. I am not inclined to be forthcoming with any information on this."

The Daily Reveille, the LSU student newspaper, reported that Mathieu and Ware will be suspended as a result of failing a random drug test. According to a source who spoke to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the players tested positive for "synthetic marijuana." At this time there is no indication the suspensions will be for longer than one game.

The good news for LSU is that while both Mathieu and Ware have made major impacts on the Bayou Bengals' 7-0 start, Les Miles has solid options for replacing both. Even with Simon out as the planned "next man up" at corner, Miles can call on experienced senior Ron Brooks to handle that position, or move either Eric Reid or Brandon Taylor from safety to corner and start the other. And against Auburn's 106th-ranked passing offense, the secondary may not be tested much anyway.

There's plenty of depth at tailback, too. Second-leading rusher Michael Ford is already averaging more than a yard more per carry than Ware and third-stringer-in-name-only Alfred Blue has rushed for better than 150 yards the past three weeks.

The bad news for LSU is that Brooks (or a moonlighting Reid or Taylor) is simply not Mathieu, and Ford and Blue are simply not Ware. That's not likely to matter when it comes to the final outcome Saturday, at least according to Vegas; LSU is installed as a 21-point-plus favorite.

But things might not be as comfortable as Miles or the Death Valley crowd would like, and after a season already plagued with off-field distractions like the Jordan Jefferson bar fight and Russell Shepard suspension, Miles would no doubt have preferred to ramp up toward the Alabama megatilt with his team's focus solely on football. Even if the suspensions prove to be of the one-game variety, that doesn't look like it's going to be the case.

Your prediction may be right but not as much of a fortune telloer as you make yourself out to be, LSU travels to #2 Alabama after Auburn .... not really a hard call If it happens at all. But If you think a couple players will keep LSU from beating Auburn, you havent watched Auburn play. Not hating on Auburn, but they are probably one of the worst teams in the top 25 right now and have a marquee win against SC because of Garcia not because they actually played well. This will be much like Auburn's game against Arkansas maybe worse.
Oh, no I have seen Auburn play and I agree that they (and ATM) are two of the most overrated teams in the top 25 who don't deserve to even be in it.  But I also saw Auburn play a close game with South Carolina (no baromet of greatness, I know) and beat Florida pretty handily last week (I know another non-great barometer), but my point is that both of those teams were missing pieces in their offense that slowed them down enough for Auburn to squeak by, so don't count on LSU's sluggish offense getting going without Ware or their defense having the same punch without Mathieu.  I think them losing to Bama is a very good bet even with those players, but without....

I guess my prediction that LSU would be the first to lose (just like last year when the #1s in the BCS lost each week after the rankings came out) was right as Auburn may not be near as tough as last year, they are tough enough that LSU wouldn't want to play them without all their players.  But hey, I think I can hear the excuses already.......

Idiots

I don't know what's more stupid: smoking "spice" or getting caught.  They get six months to party after the season is over.  Can't they bleeping wait?

I agree with you about Bama/LSWho being the best match-up the past 10 years or so, but 50? Come on man, we used to trounce yall on a regular basis.  I think we beat LSWHO like 16-17 years in a row down at the "Death Valley".

But as of late, yeah its the best, and I'm always worried about this game (past 7 years or so.)

Tickets are going to expensive as all hell.  Your best bet is to make the trip, wait till like hour before kick, and throw down $200-$300 for a nose bleed ticket.  Don't be surprised if Bama fans treat you with the "upmost disrespect" either.  I went to BR last year for the game, and the aftermath outside the stadium was brutal.

RMFTR!

HAHAHAHHA, dude are you serious?  If AJ McCArron had crushed some Marine's vertabrae with his foot, he'd be suspended for AT THE VERY LEAST a full season, if not completely kicked off the team.

Do you realize that LSWho has the repuataion around the SEC of trying to cut corners in regards to punishment so they can have their best team on the field at all times.  Lets face it, these kids will probably get suspended for the AU game, and will be back and starting for Nov. 5th.

Win at ALL costs, thats grass eater's mantra!
I like fiction as much as the next guy pickleblower, but maybe you don't realize that the felony was dropped against Jefferson because he DEFENDED himself.  How did you miss it, where you in prison?  A drunk thug who had been kicked out of the bar earlier that night for assaulting a WOMAN came back and took a swing unprovoked and unannounced at Jefferson.  The other thug in the truck that trid to run over the crowd was indeed rightously and justifiably beat down, but Jefferson had no part of that.  In fact the video now out shows it wasn't even Jefferson that kicked the drunken dishonorably discharged thug punk marine.

LSU does not have that reputation either.  See what else you fling up, I doubt any of it sticks.

If the same thing had happened at Alabama it would have been covered by the local authorities like it was for Ingram, and there wouldn't have been a suspension at all.  Not to mention McCarron would have lost the fight.

Say hi to your Uncle-sister for me.

Skreffy - He defended himself?  Oh I bet.  I bet it was more like those Marines mouthed off a bit, and JJ and the back up LB found it necessary to put them in the hospital.  They hospitalized not 1, not 2, but FOUR people.

And LSWho DOES have that reputation.  Ask any other fan in the SEC.  I'm not flinging anything up,  I'm stating the FACTS SON.

And what was covered up for Ingram?  PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME?  Have you droped to the Barner level?  You must be big into the B.S. conspiracies that the Barner's push around.  Local Authority cover ups?  Again, that is LSWHO.  Lets go back to when T-Bob Herbert received that hit and run DUI.  I'm pretty sure he was back on the team and starting fall of the year that charge happened.  So Lets stick to FACTUAL EVENTS, NOT CONSPIARCIES.

McCarron doesn't lose, the kid has a chect Tat, okay?

And "say hi to your uncle-sister for me"?  Do you mean "Uncle-Brother"?  Danm you swamp people are stupid.  You can't even get a simple insult right.

Leave me your name and number, come to T-town for the game, and lets meet up and "talk football" after UA ends your team's season, aright?
