LSU's Mathieu, Ware, Simon suspended for Auburn

Reports out of Baton Rouge are that Tyrann Mathieu's Heisman campaign is about to hit a major speed bump--and that his team may be about to have a more difficult time with visiting Auburn Saturday than initially thought.

According to the Associated Press, a "person familiar with the decision" has indicated that Mathieu is one of three players who will be suspended for (at the minimum) LSU's game against the visiting Tigers this Saturday. Also due to sit is starting tailback and leading rusher Spencer Ware and nickelback Tharold Simon.

At his Wednesday evening press conference, Les Miles declined to confirm or deny the reports. He said all healthy roster members had practiced.

"There is no real information about any specific player," he said. "When there is information to share, I will. The problem with this is it's internal. I am not inclined to be forthcoming with any information on this."

The Daily Reveille, the LSU student newspaper, reported that Mathieu and Ware will be suspended as a result of failing a random drug test. According to a source who spoke to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the players tested positive for "synthetic marijuana." At this time there is no indication the suspensions will be for longer than one game.

The good news for LSU is that while both Mathieu and Ware have made major impacts on the Bayou Bengals' 7-0 start, Les Miles has solid options for replacing both. Even with Simon out as the planned "next man up" at corner, Miles can call on experienced senior Ron Brooks to handle that position, or move either Eric Reid or Brandon Taylor from safety to corner and start the other. And against Auburn's 106th-ranked passing offense, the secondary may not be tested much anyway.

There's plenty of depth at tailback, too. Second-leading rusher Michael Ford is already averaging more than a yard more per carry than Ware and third-stringer-in-name-only Alfred Blue has rushed for better than 150 yards the past three weeks.

The bad news for LSU is that Brooks (or a moonlighting Reid or Taylor) is simply not Mathieu, and Ford and Blue are simply not Ware. That's not likely to matter when it comes to the final outcome Saturday, at least according to Vegas; LSU is installed as a 21-point-plus favorite.

But things might not be as comfortable as Miles or the Death Valley crowd would like, and after a season already plagued with off-field distractions like the Jordan Jefferson bar fight and Russell Shepard suspension, Miles would no doubt have preferred to ramp up toward the Alabama megatilt with his team's focus solely on football. Even if the suspensions prove to be of the one-game variety, that doesn't look like it's going to be the case.

LSU's Mathieu, Ware, Simon suspended for Auburn

LSU punishes its own?  Would LSU have suspended these guys with Alabama coming up Saturday? Jordan was suspended for defending himself?  Why is the quarterback/team leader out at a bar defending himself at 2;30 am, three hours after curfew? Should one expect the team leader to be the one to keep the other wild horses in the corral? I don't see Miles/LSU getting any positive accolades for this mockery of justice.
Yes, next weeks oppoenent has nothing to do with the punishment for Miles.  If you don't see that, or "any positive accolades for this mockery of justice." then get glasses.  In fact it appears all three will miss both Auburn and Alabama.  That son is what we call accountability.  None of that North Shore kickback crap they do in Slidell.

Let me figure out your motivation for hating LSU being that live on the North Shore.  Being a Tulane grad might be the answer except your grammar (or lack of) tells me otherwise, and being that I went to Tulane I can generally spot my own.  Did you move here?  What is it?  I just hope you aren't a Saints fan.

Just a suggestion, how about less rhetorical questions and more facts next time big guy.

So yes, Jefferson was suspended 4 games for essentially being out past curfew, and that included #2 Oregon and a road game at Mississippi State. Do you realize it was the night training camp ended, and that it is a LSU tradition to go out that night (one that ended this year for obvious reasons). Strange that you think missing curfew should be more than a 4 game suspension.  I hope you aren't a alawyer lol.

Really, does anyone fact check before flapping the gums anymore?

I think LSU is the only team in college football that self-punishes players with any consistency, and most LSU fans wouldn't have it any other way.

Of course you would think this way skreffty.  I congratulate Miles and LSU for punishing the kids who are screwing up, but you actually think LSU is the only program that self-punishes wrongdoers?  Hyperbole at its finest.  I'll be the first to admit that Tressel screwed up ROYALLY, but he also had a long record of being a tough disciplinarian.
No, I didn't say only LSU self-punishes, I said with any consistency.  That means stars get treated like bench warmers and vice-versa(no double standard) and we immediately suspend and report.  You still haven't learned to read.  Your own Tressel example is the textbook definition of INCONSISTENT.  See?

Did an LSU girl divorce you are something, why are you so fascinated with us?  Your hatred runs deep youngbuck.  Find your good side, embrace it.  Deeeeeeeeeeeep breath.....and exhale.

Don't you feel better?  I know Honey Badger does.  See, we can even laugh ar ourselves when we screw up.  you should really try that approach.  Laughing

Whats a spleef? Oh and Skrefty why do you have to take a jab when i was giving your team congrats for punishing their players? I wasn't trying to jab you at all (maybe Florida).
You answered your own question, SEC fans are allowed to beat up another, but we take up for each other to others  Cool

But really, I'm just tired of the "SEC cheats" talking point from 1995.  Yes without a doubt Florida has incredibly low discipline standards, and yes Auburn bought Cam.  But look around, this summer the SEC was waaaaay on the back-burner with Pac-10, Big-10, and ACC cheating taking center stage.  My point is no one has the monopoly on cheating lol, look at Boise State.

Yeah, I was probably to harsh in my reply, but now you understand why.  I am on a mission to make everyone accountable.  If your school has a player mess up, admit it, institute changes to try to prevent it, and move on.  Or the anti-Ohio State method if you will.  Our boys did the crime, and now because Les Miles doesn't put up with this crap, they will do the time, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

To skreffty:  Looks like a team full of thugs and drug abusers in Baton Rouge.  Or is this a case of better performance through chemistry?

To LSUSMC & rational Tigers:  Tough break.  I know all too well how bad it sucks when a few immature kids let down the rest of the team.
I was waiting for the resident Ohio State troll Nitrobuck (are you an American Gladiator lol?), and like Tressell is attracted to lying, so to is Nitrobuck obssesed with LSU.  Nitro, I would like to remind you of our ongoing conversation this Summer that LSU fans wouldn't put up with that kind of crap that happened at Ohio State, and that we would demand punishment rather than making excuses.

Now please check this comment board and tell me if I was right or wrong, cause I see no Tiger fan making excuses.  In fact I see that EVERY SINGLE Tiger fan here agrees with the suspension.  That may be a shock to you knowing that not a single Ohio State fan ever sacked up and admitted wrong doing.  On your comment boards it was either 1) a conspiracy by the NCAA 2) shouldn'thave been illegal 3) other schools do it, and 4) if you aren't cheating you aren't trying.

Now, you told me LSU fans would act the same way.  Now you have absolute proof that we don't.

Now, for once in your life, let your balls drop and admit you were wrong, in fact completely wrong.

I am waiting.  Let's see how you try to wiggle out of this one.  Tressell has tought you well.

You would THINK that with all LSU has dealt with concerning the Jefferson/John's off the field issue, that the players would BE ON THE SAME PAGE.  Obviously not all of them are.  HOW SELFISH!!
