Earlier this week a report in the New York Times called Missouri's potential move to the SEC "inevitable and imminent." Well, while it certainly seems inevitable given all the talk about it in recent weeks, we really don't know how imminent it is. What we do know is that the Missouri Board of Curators met on Wednesday, are meeting on Thursday and will meet again on Friday.

Whether or not conference realignment will be on their agenda, we can't be sure, though the chairman of Missouri's Board of Curators may have dropped a bit of a hint about that. When asked by the Kansas City Star about whether or not the school's conference affiliation would be discussed, Warren Erdman said he didn't have anything to say about that....yet.

“I will probably have nothing to say on that until Friday," Erdman said. “If there is anything to say then.”

Which is a pretty good indication that it is being talked about, even if no decision is reached.

Of course, some reports like the one at PowerMizzou.com say that Missouri's move to the SEC is "as done as done could be without the official vote." Which, when I read it, sounds like a long way to say that it's not done yet.

So I guess Missouri's move is still inevitable and imminent. We just don't know if or when it's going to happen.

No Mizzou decision before Friday, if then

The SEC just needs to let go of the Missouri situation and invite WVU.  That way, Auburn can stay in the West so the Bama and UT fans can quit trying to tell us how important their game is.  FYI, no one else cares.

It is obvious that Missouri wants to consider association with a different group of universities.  They just happen to be the current chess piece occupying the news.  This isn't anything new.  Schools have joined, moved or dropped conference affiliation before.  The past two years are relatively minor changes to what took place one century ago or as recently as when the Big 12 was formed.  One only need to read the wiki's about each conference.

The truly stable conferences have more than athletic teams that unite them.  In the case of Missouri it appears that it is finding itself with not much in common with the remaining members of the Big 12.  Columbia is basically an extension of St Louis and the most eastern location in the Big 12.  It is closer to places like Champaign, Iowa City, and Evanston than even Ames, Manhattan, and Lawrence.  It wants a stronger academic association and the Big 12 is declining while the SEC has improved with A&M.  It is in a state contiguous to as many SEC states as Big 12 states.  Joining the SEC wouldn't be all that different than the current situation.

It may not have the SEC option, but it cannot afford to sign on for any long term Big 12 agreement.  It is a dilemna for the Missouri officials.  Being coerced into an agreement with people you do not and cannot trust is unacceptable.  Being without a conference isn't good either.  I expect this conference exploration by Missouri will not be settled anytime soon.

At last vote it more than Alabama not voting for Mizzou.  They need 9 votes to be accepted and last count was sitting at 8.  Granted some others are siding with Alabama' reasoning.  Maybe they work it out but there are some big mouth Mizzou folks making a lot of people nervous.  Mizzou seems unstable.  I was all for Mizzou, now I am not so sure, a few losing seasons they will be crying to go back to Big 12 or to Big 10.  I assume they just stay put.
Honest question:  How are you Arkansas guys getting this info on what the vote count is?  You are the 2nd Arkansas guy that has thrown count numbers out on the bds today and I assumed the 1st was just full of crap but if two are doing it well smoke/fire.  Tell us your secrete ole red and tusky!

HOG... Whupin'? lol... That was a great game! Whupin'? Boise has proven they are a very good program. Is that all you got? I hate Texas as much as everyone else in this fine country, but the ball hit with 1 sec left. It's nothing against Nebraska! I miss the rivalary! Hey Hog... whose your rival? Nobody! And how long have you been in the S.E.C.? Pfff... You might want to stop making comments like that... it makes you look dumb.
Mizzou started this whole thing like a panhandler on the street! Oklahoma just has had enough of the bull so we where checking out our options. I don't blame them for wanting to leave... just admit why! Ask any Nebraska fans, they hate being the new guy and miss playing in the Big 12! They play with little sisters of the poor. I think Mizzou should stay(not for the Big 12) but for their rivals! You have come a long ways this decade and are almost there! Why take 50 steps back and be the new kid in school? Money! When are people going to start making decisions(in life) on what's best for conferences, america, family etc..? Making decisions soley on money in anything, is no good for anybody...

You would be good case \ exhibit for why drug testing should be performed on bloggers.  OK so you are Big 12 nut butr I did not catych your allegiance?

Could their be correlation on this TEXAS THING as to why none of the 4 schools that are wanting to leave are leaving?  I kjno wfor a fact at least one Big 12 Championship game SCREWED Nebraska.  Now I actually dislike Nebraska more than I dislike Texas but they were robbed.

Now tell me what i sthe most impressive victory for any Big 12 Team that is in Top 5 BCS?  I didn't think so, BCS exposed the fraud of Big 12.  See Boise State whuppin of OU.  OU beat Florida State who was all hype to be #6 they have lost 3 games and it was a joke for TV.

I don't know what Mizzou does or if SEC will have them, but I sure understand why they want out so badly.

I agree with everyone about the the Texas thing, but a bigger part of this is that EVERY PROGRAM that has left or wants to leave the Big 12 couldn't compete! FACT! Nebraska didn't win a championship in over a decade and never won anything in Basketball, same with A&M. MIZZOU AND COLORADO HAS NEVER ONE JACK IN ANYTHING! So let's get the whole story folks!
The S.E.C. IS THE DOMINATE CONFERENCE OF THE 2000'S... agreed! But they weren't in the '90s,'80s,'70s...so get real about this S.E.C. B.s.! There is one dominate program since WW2, and their home is the BIG 12! AND THAT IS A FACT! MOST WINS! HIGHEST WINNING %, MOST WEEKS RANKED NO#1 IN AP AND BCS! MOST WEEKS RANKED IN TOP 5 IN BOTH OF AP AND BCS! SAME WITH TOP 10 AND 25! I CAN GO ON AND ON... GET THE HELL OUT MIZZOU, SO WE CAN GET BACK TO ENJOYING COLLEGE FOOTBALL! YOUR NOTHING AND NEVER WILL BE! AVERAGE AT BEST! SO **** OR GET OFF THE POT! THANKS FOR PLAYING...

Missouri is a great catch for the SEC--- it has decent tv markets (st Louis/ KC), a reputaion as a "good academic school" , has decent to good athl;etics, increases the SEC's footprint, adds populations--- I can't see why the SEC wouldn't take them.  The idea that the SEC might want to wait for someone else is typical corporate bureaucratic nonsense---("we are happy at thirteen teams"--No you're not, you lying Slive-ian fan of orwell) or thinking that you have a shot at an Eastern team if you wait is lunacy.  )e.g Virginia Tech which isn't happening; they are happy in the ACC). Take Missouri and get to Fourteen!
The Sec can't get whoever it wants.  Like the Big ten, Pac 12; the sec is limited by a number of issues, some of which make the sec unattractive to potential suitors.  GA Tech anyone?  They left the sec and have no desire to go back.  Fl State and Miami cannibalize the FL population and don't increase footprint; plus FL State realizes it has a better shot at winning the ACC than the sec.

The only thing holding back MO is perhaps they want to wring an extra concession or two--or see if the B1G really might want them.  If they can get Ok and TX to agree to stay on for 10 years minimum; great--humble them ----but it still makes sense for them to join the SEC.

No Mizzou decision before Friday, if then

I keep reading all this hype about Missouri being mediocre, an SEC doormat. What the heck is Colorodao and Nebraska now? How well are they doing in thier respective conferences? I don't hear any bashing of them leaving the Big12! Where is all the hate for Mizzou comming from?

I think they will supprise some people if and when it happens. Going to the SEC will do nothing but improve Mizzou's stature as a top rate college. It will increase thier disirability when it comes to recruits, being they are in the best college football conference on earth. Yeh better than the Big10. It will increase thier national exposure. It's already started in that direction anyway.

The Big10 took Nebraska before Mizzou considered moving. They were just trying to get through the door before it shut and did'nt make it. So be it. I like the SEC better anyways. So all this rumor stuff that Nebraska stole it from us is..... just a rumor.

Basically what the Big12 will be left with is the old SWC (southwest conference). Most of the Big12 teams if Mizzou leaves will be from Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas with one in Iowa. I said it once and I'll say it again. If blaim is to be pointed out, point no further than Texas. They came out of the first realignment smelling like money and the rest of the conference got the shaft. So, stop blaming Mizzou for wanting something better.

Can M.U. deal with Alabama or LSU or Auburn? Thos are the top flight schools in the SEC right now. Arkansas is right there. I don;t think they can beat these guys right now, but if they recruit well, the coaching is there for it to happen. I laugh at these people that like to throw out there the fact that Mizzou has'nt the tradition of national championships. It's funny because every college was in the place at one time or another. All college programs go through down times. College football past is fine and should be celebrated and is nice nostalgia. But you want to argue college football power, to me it's only as good as what you've done latley. Mizzou is going through growing pains right now with a new QB, lost some good players early to the draft ect. No different than what any other college has to go through from year to year.

So Mizzou an SEC doormat? Maybe.....maybe not. I know one thing they will bring every game. Competition. Their opponents will have to play to win.
