On Thursday night CBSSports.com's Brett McMurphy reported there was a possibility that the three LSU players who were suspended for failing a drug test, Tyrann Mathieu, Spencer Ware, and Tharold Simon, could all be forced to sit out next week's game against Alabama as well. Which, obviously, would be a very big blow for the Tigers as their game against Alabama might not just settle the SEC West, but a berth in the national championship game as well.

However, according to a report in The Times Picayune on Friday, that will not be the case. Citing an anonymous source close to the situation, the report says that all three players will miss this weekend's game against Auburn but return in time for Alabama.

Which is good news for LSU, as Spencer Ware is the team's leading rusher and Tyrann Mathieu had been garnering some Heisman Trophy attention for his play this season, which this suspension will likely put an end to.

The three players tested positive for synthetic marijuana earlier this week.

Report: Suspended LSU players won't miss Alabama

Im sorry, nothing against LSU, but this is just a plain flat out fail. Any Student Athelete who is found doing illegal drugs should be taken off the roster. At least for a year. It does not matter if your the star of the team or on the practice squad.

These young athelites are role models that our young athelites look up to. And when you only suspend them for a few games, then it tells our young ones that whenever they get to become a big athelite, it is ok to do something immoral that can cause friction between your school, yourself, your family, your team and your fans and you wont have to take the wrath, only a slap on the hand.

When i was in highschool, if you were caught doing something illegal, you were done. I had four diffent guys on my wrestling team who were thrown off the team for doing the MJ. None, absolutely none were allowed back on the team ever. And one of them was a returning state champion.

When did it become more important to win games and make money than teaching student athelites to become adults and become better role models for those who fallow them. It is absolutely sad. If LSU wanted to save a little face and show that they have no tolerance for doing drugs of anykind, they would make these kids miss the rest of the season. I believe by doing that would show that student athelite comes before money and winning games. This is why the NCAA has become a joke.

Every school is the same, they want to win games and make money, which is all great. But you have to remember, if your going to allow your players to do stupid stuff and only slap them on the wrist, then you must expect that most of your commitments later down the road will be more kids who want to play somewhere where their illegal actions wont hurt their careers to much. So go ahead LSU, give them a minor suspension for doing something that would get them fired from a real job, and expect your younger recruits down the road to be no better of judgement than the ones you have now.

Report: Suspended LSU players won't miss Alabama

rp1 - trust me dude, any true Bama fan DOES want LSU's roster to be full up and ready to roll.  We know how some LSU fans will cry if their best players aren't in the game.  You mention the 2009 Bama victory - perfect example.  Bama's punishing D puts Jefferson and Scott out of the game, and Peterson's on the sidelines crying with cramps, so LSU musters a full 9 yards of offense the entire 4th quarter...that one single interception didnt decide it dude.

That's hilarious!......and yet, so tru!!! There is no better way to define that these players are NOT thugs!

For more facts to backup this truth.... Trrann Mathieu attended a private school in NO.  Tuition is approximately $10k/yr.  I don't think any parent would be shelling out that kind of $, and be raising a thug!!! Go Purple Knights!

Alabama's so good!  You would think all of Bama fans would want LSU to field their best possible team.  Otherwise, you would prove nothing to beat LSU not at its best.

For tall the other comments about the 2009 game....my colleague at work showed me an e-mail floating around the Bama campus that Peterson was in bouds on that interception.  Don't throw the ststs crap in there either....because non of that matters in the end.  We will n ever know the outcome of the game had the call been reversed to the correct one.  You could certainly see that lSU had the momentum, but we'll never know.

We should all hope that LSU/Bama both field their best teams.  What better way to decide a true national championship!!!!

Let's not forget that both LSU and Bama both face their nemesis in Ark and Aub in the last games of the season.

Good luck to whoever plays the winner of this game.  We all know this is really the BCS National Championship Game!!!

THUGS hate Herbal Pot!!!!

This just in!  SMOKING SYNTHETIC POT will cause you to have your THUG CARD confiscated. Herbal crap doesn’t make you a THUG.  No self-respecting THUG would be caught dead with that crap in their possession.

Report: Suspended LSU players won't miss Alabama

Arivins2 - I have already posted my vehement request to Coach Saban that he kick the Bama player off the team - right after the story broke.  So I am not living in a glass house.  Sadly I don't think either Saban or Miles will kick these punks off their teams, but they should.  But if the LSU players were using LEGAL substances, what's the trouble? Whatever technicalities you may be referring to, the bottom line is that something bad was done or Miles wouldn't have been talking about it and there wouldn't be the suspensions in the first place

Ok this whole "thug" thing is a little ridiculous to me.

They failed a drug test....A DRUG TEST!!!  Should I now consider my 50 year old female secretary who has failed 2 tests in the last 2 years, a thug???

Come on man!!!!

@Bamachill

I believe that those that live in glass houses should not throw stones.  LSU players are suspended for 1 game for using a LEGAL supstance.  Alabama has one ARRESTED for ILLEGAL drugs.
