On Thursday night's Brett McMurphy reported there was a possibility that the three LSU players who were suspended for failing a drug test, Tyrann Mathieu, Spencer Ware, and Tharold Simon, could all be forced to sit out next week's game against Alabama as well. Which, obviously, would be a very big blow for the Tigers as their game against Alabama might not just settle the SEC West, but a berth in the national championship game as well.

However, according to a report in The Times Picayune on Friday, that will not be the case. Citing an anonymous source close to the situation, the report says that all three players will miss this weekend's game against Auburn but return in time for Alabama.

Which is good news for LSU, as Spencer Ware is the team's leading rusher and Tyrann Mathieu had been garnering some Heisman Trophy attention for his play this season, which this suspension will likely put an end to.

The three players tested positive for synthetic marijuana earlier this week.

Report: Suspended LSU players won't miss Alabama

While the OBVIOUS nature of the call in question can and will be debated for years to come, I happened to have TiVo recorded that game, and early on in that game there is an OBVIOUS missed defensive holding penalty that Peterson perpetrated on Julio that was not called.  Peterson grabbed Julio's pants belt and yanked it down to prevent Julio from going up for a catch.  Verne Lundquist saw it too.  Right there for all the world to see, but it just goes to remind us that bad calls happen and go both ways.  Neither of those calls resulted in the outcome of the game, as skreffty's lame post insinuated.  And on Julio's massive TD romp, too bad Peterson wasn't in there - he should've been more conditioned and able to play the whole game.  Regarding my use of the word felon, I'm referring to the original charges against Jefferson and the other bar brawlers - not this most recent drug test fiasco.  I couldn't resist.  But trust me, I'm aware of Bama's own drug arrest just hitting the news today and I've called for both Saban and Miles to kick all drug users off their teams.  Probably won't happen.  And I disagree on your one point - LSU wasn't a 4-loss team when they came to our house...they were a 1-loss team that had only lost to #1 Florida.  LSU was ranked #9 at the time and as always, any LSU/Bama matchup is a marquee game.  And you know as well as I do that in this rivalry, home field advantage isn't what it is in other matchups.  But this year, I think it will be the edge and Bama will win 27-17.  Semper Fi and Roll Tide

As someone who doesn't support either of these teams let me say I glad they will be able to play. If all the best players are avalible then we will have the best game possible. Now just get here November 5 and I'll make sure I have plenty of wings and beer in hand.

Just another day at Louisiana State Penetentiary.

"Synthetic marijuana?"  Maybe your new aggie buddies from A&M can help you synthesize an undetectable strain of cannibus.  Rock on!

Why the hell are players from a school like LSU smoking 'synthetic marijuana'?  If the LSU QB has 80 pairs of shoes why the hell can't these guys afford some good ole 'Chronic' to smoke instead of that cheap ass herbal stuff.  I can't believe you can get suspended for smoking that crap.

Would someone down there in the Bayou please hook those LSU players up with some good weed?  I would recommend some nice 'Skunk' or some 'White Widow'.....

The state of Alabama should refuse to let these felons enter our borders until they are prosecuted
Does that mean that Brent Calloway should be exported outside the state?  Maybe they should have put something about college players doing drugs in the new Alabama immigration bill automatically stripping players of their citizenship for smoking weed.

BTW:  I know you are joking and so am I.

Report: Suspended LSU players won't miss Alabama

Bama did indeed win the game in 2009, and I do not think the OBVIOUS bad call was the reason for that.  But, it was an OBVIOUS bad call that went in Bama's favor.  Once Jefferson and Scott were out, we were done, especially after the OBVIOUS bad call.  But, to say that Julio Jones abused Peterson is a ridiculous statement.  Jones got almost all of his yards on one play, and Peterson was on the sidelines with cramps for that particular play.  LSU was a four loss team in 2009, so beating us at your place was not that big of a deal.  For the record, failing a drug test does not make one a felon.  There are no felons on LSU's team, but I don't suspect that some of you are smart enough to realize that.

Report: Suspended LSU players won't miss Alabama

skreffty - yeah, like LSU was just waiting to kick it in and win back in 2009.  Let me remind you - Bama had 24 first downs to LSU's 13.  Bama had 452 yards offense, LSU had 253.  Bama had 276 passing, LSU had 158.  Bama had 176 rushing, LSU had 95.  Julio Jones abused Patrick Peterson and company for 102 yards and an embarassingly long TD.  Here's what the fourth quarter looked like for LSU:  1st drive:  3 plays 9 yards, 01:58 LSU PUNT.  2nd drive: 3 plays -8 yards, 01:06 LSU PUNT.  3rd drive:  5 plays 8 yards, 01:00 LSU INT.  You guys had 9 yards of offense in the entire 4th quarter.  Do you not recall that????  Yeah, you guys were just primed to win it if only that mean old referee hadn't given bad old Bama a favorable call.  Bama had already sidelined your felon QB Jefferson, had already broken Scott's collarbone, and dominated in general.  That's why Bama won.  Rather, let us hope Less Miles and LSU take appropriate actions in this LATEST criminal activity from LSU thugs, and "do the right thing" regarding discipline.  Let us hope that.  And speaking of bad calls, I don't think an LSU fan wants to open that can, especially in light of the fact that LSU needed a horrible call against Florida last year to squeak remember don't you...the "lateral" that went forward, but was allowed to stand as NOT a forward pass, so LSU could win it?  Another stupid LSU trick play that Less pulled from la-la land.  Good luck with all that on Nov 5 - with or without your growing crew of felons.  Bama 27 LSU 17

Report: Suspended LSU players won't miss Alabama

"Oh go figure.

Only an LSU supporter would say you what you did, sir.  A small infraction?  They are using a illegal substance while maintaining a standard as a well-respected student athlete.  It's ridiculous that you would say this is a small infraction.

They should be suspended for the remainder of the season."

You created a fake ID to say this?  Using marijuana has always been a small infraction.  That is why the police do not put you in jail for it.  No one is doing hard time because they used marijuana or fake marijuana.  I do like the term "well-respected student athlete" though.

I am no LSU supporter, Go Buckeyes!, and I second what LSUSMC said.  They is a minor infraction.   The kids and yes they are still kids whether they are playing football or not, made a dumb kid mistake.  They should be punished and I think having this reported by all the  media and their game suspension is an appropriate punishment for a first offence.  If it is more than first the answer would be different.

1.8 games would technically be 1 game and 48 minutes of game 2

but the rule states that if a player is suspended, he (she) cannot even be in the stands for the event

so therefore in effect the player would have to arrive at the stadium in uniform ready to play at the exact moment the game clock hit 12 minutes left.

do you really think the Bama stadium gate personnel is going to let 3 guys dressed in LSU uniforms thru the gate???
