While Missouri hasn't made it official yet, it's generally accepted knowledge that the school will announce that it's leaving the Big 12 for the SEC at some point in the near future. Which means that the Big 12 is already putting plans together to find a replacement for Missouri should it leave, and rumors have West Virginia as being the favorite to be that tenth school.

Something that one Big 12 school official confirmed to the Austin American Statesman's Kirk Bohls this weekend, and the official also went on to say that the Big 12 would be better off with West Virginia than it would be with Missouri.

“I’d say West Virginia is the leader in the clubhouse," the school official told Bohls. "I think we’ll come out better than before. I’d rather be with someone who wants to be with our conference than anybody who doesn’t.”

“West Virginia has better football than Missouri, better basketball than Missouri, a better budget than Missouri and more passion among its fans than Missouri. They’re better, anyway you turn ‘em. The travel’s not good but that’s it.”

Well that's no way to convince Missouri to stay.

Bohls also talked to another Big 12 administrator who wasn't nearly as rough on Missouri, and also said he's not sure that West Virginia would be the best candidate to replace it.

“The only place where there’s an advantage for West Virginia is better football,” the second official said. “Their academics is not as strong. If there’s any thought about what’s best for the student-athlete, we’ll go with Louisville.”

So the two likely candidates to replace Missouri are still West Virginia and Louisville, and the favorite depends on who you ask. So all we really know at this point is that Missouri is going to leave and that the Big East is squirming.

Just one look at the comments in the thread should tell you the kind of people you're dealing with, Mr. Unnamed Big12 official.

Just wait until the first time your school's transport rolls into town and gets pelted with rocks or lit on fire. Just wait until the first time an OK State fan gets smashed in the side of the head with an empty JD bottle thrown from 25 rows up.  Just wait until the first time Bill Self gets pelted with a nickel in the side of the head.  Just wait until the first time a K-State fan gets pulled out of a car and beaten up while his pregnant wife watches.  Just wait until you try to go to the bathroom in that piece of crap stadium.

Then you'll be SOOOOO happy to have the Mountaineers in your conference.

The smart choice is Louisville, idiots.  The only thing you'll have to worry about is Pitino nailing waitresses in your local Italian restaurant.

OU wants no part of SEC.  There road will be too difficult.  They like playing the Big 12 schools that are hyped up and get blown out in Bowl games.  But what you state makes sense but I do not see OU coming, maybe OSU?

OK Guys, suppose WVU gets invited to the BIG12, is Marinatto going to keep WVU in the BIG EAST for 27 months plus the higher exit fee ?  This will be interesting in seeing how the BE is going to act after these other schools leave !!

I don't like the super conference model, but I think it is coming. I have thought all along that the SEC is looking at OU and OSU in the west and maybe UNC, NC State and/or Maryland in the east.  It's hard to tell what will happen, but I think the ACC teams are unlikely to move.  Therefore, OU and OSU are real candidates for the SEC in the future.  That would really be east and west conferences with a super conference championship game.  I really like trhe possible SEC west in that model. OU, OSU LSU, Ark., A&M, Mizzou, with Ole Miss and Miss St. in the basement.

There is no such thing as logistics anymore. It's all about the money.

What part of Texas is West Virginia in? I want to drive down and catch one of their games in Big 12.

lol @ WVUMTNEERS. I would love to see the facial expressions of the people you associate with. I Imagine it's pretty hard for them to stand there with a straight face, let alone stand there at all. If you can find someone dumb enough to listen to your drivel, I'd be amazed.
