While Missouri hasn't made it official yet, it's generally accepted knowledge that the school will announce that it's leaving the Big 12 for the SEC at some point in the near future. Which means that the Big 12 is already putting plans together to find a replacement for Missouri should it leave, and rumors have West Virginia as being the favorite to be that tenth school.

Something that one Big 12 school official confirmed to the Austin American Statesman's Kirk Bohls this weekend, and the official also went on to say that the Big 12 would be better off with West Virginia than it would be with Missouri.

“I’d say West Virginia is the leader in the clubhouse," the school official told Bohls. "I think we’ll come out better than before. I’d rather be with someone who wants to be with our conference than anybody who doesn’t.”

“West Virginia has better football than Missouri, better basketball than Missouri, a better budget than Missouri and more passion among its fans than Missouri. They’re better, anyway you turn ‘em. The travel’s not good but that’s it.”

Well that's no way to convince Missouri to stay.

Bohls also talked to another Big 12 administrator who wasn't nearly as rough on Missouri, and also said he's not sure that West Virginia would be the best candidate to replace it.

“The only place where there’s an advantage for West Virginia is better football,” the second official said. “Their academics is not as strong. If there’s any thought about what’s best for the student-athlete, we’ll go with Louisville.”

So the two likely candidates to replace Missouri are still West Virginia and Louisville, and the favorite depends on who you ask. So all we really know at this point is that Missouri is going to leave and that the Big East is squirming.

No offense to Missouri, but I think the SEC would have been better off with WVU instead of yet another team of Tigers.

13oogieman...........Your answers are exactly why WVU has problems with respect and terrible fan reputation, you people continue to stay in complete denial, you just don't get it. It's a shame your fans have to go half-way across America to possibly be invited to a BCS Conference, when the SEC, ACC and B1G is much closer to your school and would be better for your school and fans. Now I guess you will stay in denial and knock all of these other BCS Conferences.

Mizzou should be in demand

Mizzou is what every conference needs: a a glorified tomato can.  They have a decent name, OK academics, and draw a lot of people.  They are good enough to beat average teams, but rarely spring an upset that would ruin the chances of a team that has a bona fide chance to win a National Championship.  Even when they succeeded in upsetting Nebraska in 1997, the officials counted an illegal touchdown and gave the game to Nebraska.

It's teams like Mizzou that enable great teams to win National Championships.  Conferences are adding so many good teams that they are forgetting to add "opponents" to pad their records.  Mizzou is the ultimate opponent.  They should call themselves the "Fighting Chuck Wepners."

And they shouldn't even think about the SEC, where they will be lucky to win two conference games a year.

Hooray to the Iowa State Cyclones for not being cast to non-AQdom!  Whats often lost in this realignment debate is that some parties are just happy to have a seat at the table.  This situation has produced many losers, but lets not forget there are winners too.

I really hate to see Missouri leave the Big 12. I thought Nebraska and Colorada leaveing was stupid. The Big 12 is a tough football conference.Loseing Texas A&M too is a mistake. All the teams have a history together and some great matchup trough the years. If WVU  comes and I am a WVU fan then I would support tthat move. The Big 12 is a very good Conference and they play some good football and basketball. I really think Missouri will have a hard time competeing in the SEC against Alabama and Lsu and Florida year every year.I wish we could go back to years gone bye and keep the teams  where they should be. I hated to see Pittsburgh and Syracuse going to the ACC. The back yard brawl will be a thing of the past and Syracuse and Wvu have a history together. All that will be thrown away. I hope things work out and if WVU ends up in the Big 12 then I would be proud that Wvu got into a great conference. I just hope that the Big East doesn't fold and keeps playing football.

I'm sure they'll get it right. Right for who I'm not sure.

TX/OK to Hollyweed?

It's funny how Big 12 officials are hating on MO for wanting to leave, but they forget that TX and OK tried to GO HOLLYWEED a few weeks ago, but got bitch-slapped by LILO and the Olsen twins!

It really makes me wonder why in the world all these confreces are waiting on Mizzou???? They want out they have made it pretty clear...they do the same thing every year. Make a move already Big East and Big 12 dont set back and wait to see waht they will do. The BE is falling apart and they still want to wait and see who else is leaving. BE you have lost enough already and if you lose WVU or Louisville who will want to join??? BSU isn't coming if there is no one else left to play. It makes me sick to watch them set back every week and wait to see what will happen while one team after the next leaves. This is the craziest thing I have ever seen!!! What company in the world has ever made any money waiting to see what their rival company will do??? It works the same way and they are letting them steal all your teams away!!! Does anyone else feel like this is nuts??? I understand the Big 12 wants to keep Mizzou....just dont understand why they wouldnt go ahead and add lousville and WVU anyway??? 2 pretty good programs want to join and make your confrence stronger but no lets see what Mizzou will do??

Omigosh.  Texas cannot be as bad as Notre Dame in the Big East.
