While Missouri hasn't made it official yet, it's generally accepted knowledge that the school will announce that it's leaving the Big 12 for the SEC at some point in the near future. Which means that the Big 12 is already putting plans together to find a replacement for Missouri should it leave, and rumors have West Virginia as being the favorite to be that tenth school.

Something that one Big 12 school official confirmed to the Austin American Statesman's Kirk Bohls this weekend, and the official also went on to say that the Big 12 would be better off with West Virginia than it would be with Missouri.

“I’d say West Virginia is the leader in the clubhouse," the school official told Bohls. "I think we’ll come out better than before. I’d rather be with someone who wants to be with our conference than anybody who doesn’t.”

“West Virginia has better football than Missouri, better basketball than Missouri, a better budget than Missouri and more passion among its fans than Missouri. They’re better, anyway you turn ‘em. The travel’s not good but that’s it.”

Well that's no way to convince Missouri to stay.

Bohls also talked to another Big 12 administrator who wasn't nearly as rough on Missouri, and also said he's not sure that West Virginia would be the best candidate to replace it.

“The only place where there’s an advantage for West Virginia is better football,” the second official said. “Their academics is not as strong. If there’s any thought about what’s best for the student-athlete, we’ll go with Louisville.”

So the two likely candidates to replace Missouri are still West Virginia and Louisville, and the favorite depends on who you ask. So all we really know at this point is that Missouri is going to leave and that the Big East is squirming.

Are you serious Buford??? I mean you see LSU cb's talking smack to WVU wr's but when one of our fans gets a little excited and says something to a visiting fan the we are awful people and don't deserve to be in a good confrence because of out actions......jeezzz man football players are allowed to be competitive but fans cant be??? We want our team to do great and we are a little passionate about it. I go to games all the time and our people are just as good to visiting fans as they are to us. How many visiting fans come in and say disyurbing things to us to get it all started?? They think we are all barefooted and dont have running water and all this garbage that gets it started. We love our football in WV and we want our team to win. We cheer them on and boo the other team just like everyone else does. I have a 12 year old son and 9 year old daughter that go to these games and if it was that harsh I wouldnt take them. Quit acting like we throw rocks across the football feild to the visiting side or set your cars on fire while in the parking lot. Dont be a big baby about it!!!! We pick a little with words if you cant take that then I feel sorry for you!!!

Missouri simply doesnt want to be a conference where a single team calls all the shots, Texas. WVU fans beware what you are getting into with Texas and the Big 12, it's a joke.

I would like BSU to get an Invite to the Big 12 but I think it is a few years too early.  With a coulple more years in the top 25 they may actually make money for the Big 12.  Right now that is a big question mark.  If BCS Amagedden happens this year and BSU gets in the NC game.  They could get the national following that they need to be useful to to the Big 12.  Their BB is weak now but hey have a 12,000+ seat arena.  And solid non revenue sports.  (Top 10 wrestling program, top men's 25 tennis, Avg/good Track)  But we all know this is driven by Football.  If the Big 12 goes to 12 Adding BYU, BSU (travel partners) and WV (to kill the Big East Football).

My proposal is for only self serving needs.  It would be cool to have more than 2 or 3 big time games a year.

Besides, if you compare the four lost (Colorado, Nebraska, Texas A&M, and Missouri) to the four gained (TCU, West Virginia, Cincinnati, and Louisville) over the last few years, they're pretty compatible.

Nice try Gumbyland, unfortunately program history matters when your compairing programs and their relevance. Last time I checked one of the teams leaving has 5 national titles and is in the top 10 all times win list. Teams coming in have 0 NC's combined and other than WV are probably below .500 for their history.

Conference is crumbling, face the facts.

You know what would be better than exchanging Mizzou for West Virginia? Keeping Missouri and adding West Virginia, Louisville, Cincy, BYU, Houston and SMU. Now there is an idea. Add more teams and create the Big 12 network that is being discussed and maybe teams will quit thinking about leaving.

I also hope Pitt gets to the ACC soon. It would open up so much new territory for recruiting. The Big East are trying to keep Pitt and Syracuse until 2014 out of spite. But, I would think the Big East need to grow, not shrink, for there to be any chance of the conference letting them leave early. TCU backing out was a real set back.
And this mega-merger talk with CUSA and the Mountain West merging and then also adding the Big East to have 4 seven or eight team divisions is just silly. It sounds great in theory as far as Automatic Bids and the BCS are concerned, but the hypothetical conference would encompass the entire continental United States.
And I can't see Penn State leaving the Big Ten. Eventually, it will be a super conference and even with 12 teams there is just too much money with the Big Ten Network and other TV contracts to justify leaving.
As for Notre Dame; I can't see them going anywhere other than the Big Ten if they ever wake up and realize independents can't survive in this day and age. There is no upside to remaining independent. Irish pride and arrogance are only hurting the team in the long run.

Hey...Pyshie !   WVU has a lot more problems about a fit in the ACC, B1G and SEC than you want to admit. First of all, WVU fans have had a "chip" on their shoulders for many years, for why, most other good elite football schools don't really know why you do this, it must be a cultural thing. Many of your fans are so obnoxious to visiting fans. Your fan behavior is viewed by many schools, as the worst in the country, year in and year out. Instead of WVU fans constantly acting like idiots to other team competitors and BE schools, you people need to clean up your act soon. You need to act like you've been there before and respect the moment and visiting fans. All you WVU fans do is blame everyone else except yourself.  As a whole, your football fan base has had a bad reputation in the FBS throughout the country, and who cares how many you take to a bowl game when you act like caged animals. That's what your AD, Oliver Luck and your new coach Dana Holgerson, is trying to get you people to do is clean up your sportmanship, fill your stadium and be a good conference member. SO QUIT knocking other Conferences and and othe Schools, and someday you may have a better reputation in the national BSC spotlight, and be invited to a quality BCS Conference.

Not today...

At this point is it news that missery wants to go to the SEC? They did not give notice of withdrawl at BG12 Board meeting in Dallas today. Ummmmmmm, wonder why? I think they could get more copy from this one too. Just a matter of interest, so I'm sure Dodd will run with this one as I think he's a missery native. Only people who care are missery fans,  the people that hate them, & the one's missery posters are now pi$$ing off. Lots of UWV in the mix now, so maybe Dodd will help pi$$ off some more tomorrow.

mailbum, your comments are rendered invalid by talking about a school going somewhere that they will "loose cash".  Please don't post until you're over the age of 17, that's some pretty simple spelling there.
