While Missouri hasn't made it official yet, it's generally accepted knowledge that the school will announce that it's leaving the Big 12 for the SEC at some point in the near future. Which means that the Big 12 is already putting plans together to find a replacement for Missouri should it leave, and rumors have West Virginia as being the favorite to be that tenth school.

Something that one Big 12 school official confirmed to the Austin American Statesman's Kirk Bohls this weekend, and the official also went on to say that the Big 12 would be better off with West Virginia than it would be with Missouri.

“I’d say West Virginia is the leader in the clubhouse," the school official told Bohls. "I think we’ll come out better than before. I’d rather be with someone who wants to be with our conference than anybody who doesn’t.”

“West Virginia has better football than Missouri, better basketball than Missouri, a better budget than Missouri and more passion among its fans than Missouri. They’re better, anyway you turn ‘em. The travel’s not good but that’s it.”

Well that's no way to convince Missouri to stay.

Bohls also talked to another Big 12 administrator who wasn't nearly as rough on Missouri, and also said he's not sure that West Virginia would be the best candidate to replace it.

“The only place where there’s an advantage for West Virginia is better football,” the second official said. “Their academics is not as strong. If there’s any thought about what’s best for the student-athlete, we’ll go with Louisville.”

So the two likely candidates to replace Missouri are still West Virginia and Louisville, and the favorite depends on who you ask. So all we really know at this point is that Missouri is going to leave and that the Big East is squirming.

Missouri is clearly a better choice for the SEC than WVU. They might have less wins but that came against better opponents. Missouri certainly is not an amazing choice but West Virginia is terrible. Awful academics, terrible atmosphere and the worst fans in college football. As an SEC fan I would not ever make the trip up there and WVU would be a black mark on the most prestigious conference in NCAA.

You've clearly never been to Columbia,Missouri. We'll take VWU any day of the week over Misery.

WVU would be a great addition for any conference! If the SEC doesn't want them, someone will want them.

The best way for West Virginia to join the Big 12 is to go along with Louisville and Cincinnati. They are close geographically and are developing nice rivalries between them.

When did LSU get a 4th national championship? They may get it this year but as of now they only have 3 (1958, 2003 and 2007).

Other than what is happening to the Big East, I personally cannot see why West Virginia would want to join the Big 12. Logistically, this is a nightmare and would invovle a lot of travel. While the Big 12 schools would have to travel every other year to Morgantown, WV would have to make a lot of trips west. This is as bad as the brief engagement that TCU had with the Big East.

The very latest report has WVU going to the ACC along with either ND or Penn State.  This makes more sense than WV going to the dregs of what will left over of the Big 12.  ND has never had any real interest in the BIG 10, thus a move to the ACC is logical.  Penn State would be a good addition but their recent brand of stodgy football and the bottom of the barrel basketball could hurt their chances. My personal choice would be WVU and Penn State...even though I hate both with a passion, but the ND administration is so corrupt with their greed and avarice they are more to be pitied than dissed
Where do you people get this stuff?
What kind of drugs are the people on that report it?
Where can we get the drugs?  Please!
