One Big 12 school official won't miss Mizzou

While Missouri hasn't made it official yet, it's generally accepted knowledge that the school will announce that it's leaving the Big 12 for the SEC at some point in the near future. Which means that the Big 12 is already putting plans together to find a replacement for Missouri should it leave, and rumors have West Virginia as being the favorite to be that tenth school.

Something that one Big 12 school official confirmed to the Austin American Statesman's Kirk Bohls this weekend, and the official also went on to say that the Big 12 would be better off with West Virginia than it would be with Missouri.

“I’d say West Virginia is the leader in the clubhouse," the school official told Bohls. "I think we’ll come out better than before. I’d rather be with someone who wants to be with our conference than anybody who doesn’t.”

“West Virginia has better football than Missouri, better basketball than Missouri, a better budget than Missouri and more passion among its fans than Missouri. They’re better, anyway you turn ‘em. The travel’s not good but that’s it.”

Well that's no way to convince Missouri to stay.

Bohls also talked to another Big 12 administrator who wasn't nearly as rough on Missouri, and also said he's not sure that West Virginia would be the best candidate to replace it.

“The only place where there’s an advantage for West Virginia is better football,” the second official said. “Their academics is not as strong. If there’s any thought about what’s best for the student-athlete, we’ll go with Louisville.”

So the two likely candidates to replace Missouri are still West Virginia and Louisville, and the favorite depends on who you ask. So all we really know at this point is that Missouri is going to leave and that the Big East is squirming.

OK Folks...time to look at the BIG PICTURE. Super Conferences are NOT going to happen. At best, we can hope for a PLUS ONE game in the next decade...which would be a nice change. However, with all said, this isnt about Louisville vs West Va. They will both be members of the Big 12 in a matter of months..if not weeks and most likely along with Cinn.    MIZZOU has made the same mistake that A&M has made and that is that they think they will hide their mediocrity more easily in a 14 team conference than in a 10-12 team conference. Avereage is average and consistantly placing 5th out of 10 in most sports will look better than placing 7th out of 14 to most folks....but Mizzou and A&M apparently use a different kind of math.

Big 12 powers Oklahoma & Texas (and OSU climbing) would consistantly fight for championships in the SEC or any conference...if you think otherwise, you are kidding yourself. How about we start a conference with all of the teams that have at least 4 National Championships...legit AP championships...not some of those Shriners Champs, wheat Farmers Champs like they claim in some places in the SEC... Now that would be special....OU, Texas, Alabama, LSU (oops sorry Florida you dont qualify & and A&M, your ONE from  when Hitler was trying to run the planet is not enough), ND, USC, Ohio State, Michigan. This would be special.

I'm all for West Virginia and Louisville moving to the Big 12, because that probably makes it more likely that Boise State will remain in the Mountain West.  So good riddance to A&M & Mizzou.

Pitt fan stating to watch out for PITINO nailing waitresses in the local italian restaurants....freaking PRICELESS.

I can't stop laughing over that one..... I'll never forget the name Karen Sypher.....

By the way, I'm a huge PITINO fan ..... especially when he pimps that white suit for the "white out" game.

Slicky Ricky is the man...but he's losing in the cheating game vs. Calipari....

What does the administrator that thinks WVU is not a good academic school base his comment on.  The facts speak otherwise.  For instance, WVU has 24 Rhodes Scholars which ranks 30th nationally.  That is more than Louisville, Notre Dame and all of the current Big 12 schools, including Missouri.
Oh the ND posters are going to love this one!

For the record if you want to join a conference and it is not a done deal (see Missouri is while yours is just speculation) it is probably not the best idea to talk smack about their academics.  However since the administrators of the different schools and conferences don't seem to have any better sense than you do I guess we should just let it slide.

That being said I kind of want WV to go to the Big 12 I can just imagine how entertaining the bds will be when WV plays Texas or Oklahoma.  Should be fun.

Sounds like sour grapes!  I think Missouri will be better off as well with a conference who splits all revenue equally, as opposed to the way the Big 12 does it!  Enjoy those rides for Volleyball, Tennis, Softball and all other sports from Texas to Morgantown, West Virginia.

Just one look at the comments in the thread should tell you the kind of people you're dealing with, Mr. Unnamed Big12 official.

Interesting, refresh my memory on which school was on the cover of S.I. for the most criminals on one football team?  Everything you spelled out about being bad at WVU has happened to me in that pathetic "atmosphere" you have at the Steelers home.  I guess what was thrown at me came from some of those "fans" dressed as empty seats in Heinz Field.  The fact that you came on here to try and put down WVU when this article has nothing to do with Pitt shows plenty about your character.
