While Missouri hasn't made it official yet, it's generally accepted knowledge that the school will announce that it's leaving the Big 12 for the SEC at some point in the near future. Which means that the Big 12 is already putting plans together to find a replacement for Missouri should it leave, and rumors have West Virginia as being the favorite to be that tenth school.

Something that one Big 12 school official confirmed to the Austin American Statesman's Kirk Bohls this weekend, and the official also went on to say that the Big 12 would be better off with West Virginia than it would be with Missouri.

“I’d say West Virginia is the leader in the clubhouse," the school official told Bohls. "I think we’ll come out better than before. I’d rather be with someone who wants to be with our conference than anybody who doesn’t.”

“West Virginia has better football than Missouri, better basketball than Missouri, a better budget than Missouri and more passion among its fans than Missouri. They’re better, anyway you turn ‘em. The travel’s not good but that’s it.”

Well that's no way to convince Missouri to stay.

Bohls also talked to another Big 12 administrator who wasn't nearly as rough on Missouri, and also said he's not sure that West Virginia would be the best candidate to replace it.

“The only place where there’s an advantage for West Virginia is better football,” the second official said. “Their academics is not as strong. If there’s any thought about what’s best for the student-athlete, we’ll go with Louisville.”

So the two likely candidates to replace Missouri are still West Virginia and Louisville, and the favorite depends on who you ask. So all we really know at this point is that Missouri is going to leave and that the Big East is squirming.

Let me see...

Big 10 does not want Mizzou
SEC does not want West Va
Big 12 does prefers West Va over Mizzou
SEC prefers Mizzou over West Va
West Va wants to leave Big East
Mizzou want to leave Big 12

What's the problem....

Shouldn't everybody be happy!!!  Sign some papers and get it done so we can play some football.

Just who is this conference offical? Farmer John? You replace a member of the Academic rated Universities with West Virginia? The ACC doesn't want them and I wonder why... WV is right in their backyard! If this is representative of the Big 12 conference's thinking...

No, Bama is #1 in SEC West, LSU is #2 in SEC West & Arkansas is #3 in SEC West. With Auburn in NC Game last year Arkansas was #1 in SEC for Sugar Bowl.  Should LSU beat Bama on 11/5 and Arkansas beat LSU our true rivalry game at the end of the year we will have a 3 way tie on top if SEC West.  Then again why am I trying to explain why the SEC is a power conference? If you don't know already, your sports acumen is probably rendered incapable.

What I said was in response to the idiot who posted KU would be the ones begging Misery to play them every year.  And I clearly stated that KU has made it's position crystal clear.  We won't be playing Misery if they choose to leave the Big XII.  KU has no problem w/Texas or Oklahoma.  They have said they are committed to the Big XII.  If they choose to leave in a few years so be it.  That is not the case now.  We are talking about Misery.  So your added ramblings about anything other than Misery are worthless!

Love the generalizations of isolated incidents over the years by WVU drunken students.  Do I condone it, no.  But, it's not like these things are just isolated at WVU.  The LSU incident occurred not even by WVU fans, but by random thugs.. but I digress.    Crappy stadium?  At least we own our stadium and actually fill it.  Unlike Pitt, where you can't even give away season tickets, literally.

Pitt fans amuse me.  Pitt football hasn't been relevant for nearly 30 years, never won a Big East Title, and think going to the ACC is somehow going to change that....LOL!

See you in Morgantown soon.

This may be the most stupid comment I've read. For starters, the SEC gets who it wants. It selects, doesn't just grab. Secondly, Missouri vs. W.V. for the Big 12. Hmmm, yeah, W.V. is a better fit for the middle of the Atlantic Ocean than it is for the Big 12, but I guess when you're desperate you grab what you can to try and keep from sinking.

Keep hoping Spitt fan, we are leaving. At least we have a fanbase instead of an empty renta-stadium with empty seats every game day. At least we have a stadium....lol

Wow, the divorce is not even finalized and there is already name calling.

Is Jerry Springer involved with the Big 12?

Difficult?? Ole Miss?? Miss St??  Vandy??  Kentucky?? UT?? Arkansas?? Even SC isn't that good. LSU and Bama are the only good teams you have. Florida won't even travel to a decent out of conference team in football. Check that out.

Bufford, If WVU does get invited and accepts the BIG 12 offer, Big East Football which is already on life support will be officially dead.  Cuse, Pitt, and WVU would probably have to pay a higher buyout to get out of the 27 month waiting period.  Good thing that WVU was left $100M (or more) from their biggest donor Milan Puskar, who recently passed away (RIP Mr. Puskar).  I think WVU has the cash to get out.
