On Tuesday CBSSports.com's Brett McMurphy reported that the Big 12 had invited West Virginia to join the conference in the event that Missouri left for the SEC, and that West Virginia had accepted the invitation. A report that was confirmed by multiple outlets throughout the day.

Well, this is the world of conference realigment, and in the world of conference realignment things happen and then don't happen before happening again or not. Then you wake up in an alley somewhere with no recollection of how you got there or why you're suddenly missing a kidney.

So of course there was a report on Wednesday from the West Virginia Metro News saying that the done deal may not be a done deal after all, and that Louisvillecould be replacing Missouri in the Big 12.
As of late yesterday afternoon, WVU had received a verbal invitation to the Big 12 and had accepted. Plans were in the works for a news conference Wednesday to make the announcement.

But sources say the process hit a “bump in the road” last night.  WVU was apparently notified by the Big 12 that it needed “more information” from WVU and that there would be a vote by the Big 12 Board, perhaps on Monday.

There is speculation that the “bump” was a push by Louisville.
So what's the problem? Well, it's not so much that Louisville made some kind of last minute presentation to the Big 12 or anything as much as it's the fact that the schools aren't all in agreement that West Virginia is the better choice, as Brett McMurphy documented on Wednesday.

You may remember that on Monday, while one Big 12 administrator was talking about how much better West Virginia would be for the Big 12 than Missouri, another conference administrator was of the belief that Louisville was the better choice.

I know, the fact that the members of the Big 12 don't all agree on something shocks me too.

Haven't the teabagging senators done enough harm?  Louisville football in a league with OU and Texas?  Why not add Dayton?

Not so fast on West Virginia to the Big 12

"This story, if factual, poses one problem for me... I prefer to see L-Ville go to the Big 12 than WVU.  I still am encouraging the ACC to go after WVU and Penn State.  This would preclude any further doubts about the veracity of the conference football and. despite PSU's ineptness in basketball, the ACC would still be on a par with the Big East. If PA JO kills this arrangement, the next best bet is for the ACC to entice ND into the fold but with a firm understanding that they are just another school and have no special circumstances." -- I've got to go... Big 10 teams won't leave their garbage conference for the ACC and ACC teams won't leave their garbage conference for the Big 10. Both conferences are garbage SEC, PAC 12, Big 12(even falling apart) are above both. Texas and Oklahoma are better than anything those garbage conferences produce. Especially with the Ohio State sanctions and departure of JT.

Not so fast on West Virginia to the Big 12

"Both the Big East and the Big Tex are pathetic. Both have become second rate conferences. Just die a quick death instead of dragging this sorry exercise out." --- Funny coming from a Big 10 fan. As an SEC fan, I can honestly say that Big 10 is now at the bottom. ACC is a pile of garbage but at least they're good at basketball. Big 10 is good at nothing. If you take away Ohio State's accompishments in the BCS era, what has the rest of the Big 10 done? 0 Championships. 0 championship appearances. Losses to teams like TCU in the Rose Bowl. Big 10 is useless

Not so fast on West Virginia to the Big 12

Cincinnati is not an attractive option for the Big 12. They may have a decent program, but Nippert Stadium only seats 35,000, and there is no room to expand it. Heck, they can't even sell it out this year. People throw out Paul Brown Stadium as an alternative, but that has backfired. UC hosted Oklahoma last year at PBS, and the game only had 50,000 in attendance, whereas the stadium holds over 62,000. Two weeks ago, UC hosted Louisville, and only 45,000 showed up. Mike Brown is extremely reluctant to allow UC games to be played there for this simple reason......the games just aren't profitable enough for him.
uksmithfan, I work at the Reds as a beer vendor do you work there too? Anyways your comment about Cincy not being an attractive option to the Big12 is a complete farse. Since you work at Nippert you should know there is room to expand along the east and west sides of the stadium, and further it still doesn't matter because as you pointed out we can play at PBS. When we hosted Oklahoma last year there was 58,000 fans there (not really a backfire by the way) and as you know more people went to that game than at Bengals games. Hosting Louisville is a different matter because so many UC alumni were pissed that homecoming was held down there and that Louisville hasn't played well this year.

Mike Brown should not be included in this argument at all. He doesn't own the stadium and you know that. Any Cincy citizen knows that because they raised their taxes just to pay for it. Aren't profitable enough for him? None of his players are playing, he's not paying anyone and is raking in hundreds of thousands of dollars, and if Texas and Oklahoma comes into town it could be around a million. Honestly uksmithfan, being that your a beer vendor you need to pray that we get in because you'll just double your money.

Couldn't happen to a more deserving fanbase if West Virginia gets left in the cold. So many snotty and arrogant remarks coming from a school with low academic standards and mediocre sports. You see articles mentioning their top 25 finishes four out of five years, and? Vanderbilt could probably do the same in that horrid conference. Big East is worse than the MWC and on par with Conference USA. -- As for the guy trying to converse with UKSmith... don't bother. Dude is a man child that constantly whines and complains. You'd be better off teaching a monkey how to speak English than trying to have a rational conversation with that dillweed.

Not so fast on West Virginia to the Big 12

Starting to look like Missouri and the Big 12 are just dragging things out as long as possible to keep them selves in the media longer. Is that any news is good news as long as it keeps people talking about you. ?

WV or Louisville either will be a good replacement. I would rather have WV, but Mizzou needs to quit stalling and get out. I am really surprised that they are leaving in the first place to go to the SEC and get pounded year in and year out even worse than when they played BIG12 South teams.
