It's been a rough week for Notre Dame and Brian Kelly. Following Notre Dame's loss to USC last weekend, amidst a barrage of USC players saying that the Irish quit, Kelly promised that this week would not be fun for his players. The Irish held long practices all week, but on Thursday Kelly made some comments that bothered his players more than the extra work.

"You can see the players that I recruited here," Kelly said on Thursday after practice. "You know who they are. We've had one class … that I've had my hand on. The other guys here are coming along. But it's a process. It can't happen overnight. They're getting there. We're making good progress."

As you'd expect, the players on the Notre Dame roster who Kelly didn't recruit didn't exactly enjoy hearing these comments, and even took to Twitter to vent. All of the tweets have since been deleted, but players like Trevor Robinson, Kapron Lewis-Moore and Manti Te'o tweeted about Kelly's remarks.

Te'o tweeted "playin for my bros and that's it!!!"

Well, on Friday players reportedly addressed Kelly about his comments in an effort to clear the air, and Kelly apologized to his players for the remarks.

Whether there are still some tension between the players and their coach remains to be seen, but the best way to heal any divide in the locker room would probably be a win against Navy on Saturday afternoon.

The guilty players must be some real pussies to have been offended by that. No wonder Kelly's having such a hard time getting ND up to speed.

I agree 100 percent. What was so wrong with what he said?  This team that was supposed to be a lot better then this got their asses handed to the by USC in a game they were pretty big favourites to win.  They lost to South Florida at home to start the season and a get killed 6 weeks later, once again at home?  What kind of progress is that?    All the guy is saying is hey, these guys aren't for the most part who I recruited.... and he's right, they aren't.

Looks like it's time to get a new coach again. What kind of coach makes an idiotic statement like that. Now I understand why Notre Dame is underachieving this year.

Berate the players for lack of effort in games and practise, to divide and conquer a team shows that the coach has not had the dressing room in his corner.

The team will play for each other and fans but not the coach shows that ND will be best replacing him.

Strange, isn't it, that the men who played for Bear and Woody can't say enough good things about either of them.  In Columbus, all you have to do to start a HUGE fight is say something negative about Woody Hayes.  Talk to ANYBODY who played for him.  I have.  Will anybody love Briar Kelly?

What a horrible thing to say about your players.  They're playing FOR YOU.  Open mouth.  Insert foot.

@skreffty....did you just accuse Bear Bryant of being racist?  That's crazy, and ignorant.  He fought for years to integrate the teams he coached at both Kentucky and Texas A&M...he continued to fight for integration at Alabama before finally being successful there.  He was a product of the times.  Recruiting black players at those schools would have gotten him fired.  But he lobbied for it, and eventually was able to convince the 'bama administration to allow him to recruit black players.  It didn't hurt that Sam Cunningham completely destroyed the Tide in a game, and once he had the green light Bryant recruited those players...not reluctantly either.  He went after the best players full-bore.

Maybe you should do your homework.

Anybody who has ever met or been around Kelly, can instantly tell you his problem. Kelly suffers from Stage IV Little Man's Disease, and a Napoleon complex. He masks his insecurities by ranting and bullying kids. Little Man Disease (LMD) is always terminal. There is no cure.

teams that make alot of mistakes tend to be poorly coached............don't blame it all on the players.   You don't see great coaches teams turn the ball over and play sloppy week after week.......the guys a legend in his own mind.......
