That's an artist's rendering of a new on-campus stadium for Baylor football. Baylor has played its football games off campus since 1936 and for the last 62 years the Baylor football team has played at Floyd Casey Stadium, off-campus in Waco.. Well, as you can see in the rendering above, that's something that head coach Art Briles and many other people at Baylor would like to fix in the near future.

"Due to the strong interest expressed by Baylor Nation for an on-campus football facility, we have decided to share a rendering of the stadium," said athletic director Ian McCaw. "This location will maximize the stadium's exposure given the more than 100,000 vehicles that travel the highway each day, while providing Baylor with an extraordinary branding opportunity."

The rendering was done by a company called Populous, which has been hired to come up with the stadium's master plan.

Of course, this is just a drawing of a proposed stadium. Nothing's been approved of yet, but it's obvious that Baylor is serious about building a new home for its football team.

drayton mclane, former owner of the astros, will be using some of the money he got from the sale of the team to pay for the new stadium.

For all of those wondering if it will get built.  Yes it will, have you seen how much it costs to attend Baylor?  This is a private school, not a public U.  And you should see all of the other new buildings that have been constructed over the past 5 years.  They would all total way more than the the new football stadium.

Im very glad to see that Baylor is making this move even though I do love Floyd Casey Stadium. You can check out the review I did of it at StadiumJourney.com

Nice design. So where are the luxury boxes, press box, parking, and large video scoreboard? Can't imagine those two rectangular boxes at the end of the stadium to be adequate for todays video viewing. How many does it seat? Estimated cost? I would think any wishful thinking might include a few more details. Why even release it? Maybe just some student's class project. Almost like all the projections of conference changes. Pure Poppycock!

Actually, the funding is pretty much a done deal. Baylor's wealthiest Alum is one Drayton McLane, an on-campus proponent, whose sale of the Houston Astros is about to close.

That's a cool picture.  If Baylor can get anywhere close to making the picture a reality, they will have done well.  As I admired the architecture, a thought crossed my mind.  The roof bit, while pretty and functional reminds me of that stage thing that blew down at the Indiana State Fair.  Then I recalled that Waco is out in the middle of nowhere with nothing to break the winds.  Wow, that could be trouble, and I needed to point out the elephant in the room before anything bad happened.   The elephant is that the 'Baylor Nation' appears most anxious to pursue legal action when they are in a snit.  I refer to the recent atm SEC incident.  So, I simply felt I should raise a tiny red flag of warning as a public service to those concerned.  Baylor may be a Baptist university, but they will not turn the other cheek.  Then, all of the sudden, it hit me!  The ice thing at the Dallas Cowboys stadium, yeeks!  Imagine wind in Waco.  Its a pretty picture, but lose the roof, you've been warned.  Laugh

That looks awfully big... I wonder if they're gonna give away tickets to fill it up.

Nice...but it will never get funded, much less built.
