CBSSports.com: Curley, Schultz step down amid investigation

Penn State announced that athletic director Tim Curley and VP/treasurer Gary Schultz have asked to be put on administrative leave as they are investigated for charges of perjury and failure to report. Curley and Schultz are being charged for not alerting authorities to reports they got from Penn State football staff about alleged sex crimes involving former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky and a minor.

Here is Penn State's official statement on Curley and Schultz stepping down. Senior Associate Athletic Director Mark Sherburne will serve as interim athletic director until Curley’s legal situation is resolved.

PennLive.comSen. Piccola wants probe of Penn State University officials' alleged inaction

State Sen. Jeffrey Piccola, the chairman of the state Senate Education Committee, suggests university trustees should be just as disturbed as he is about the accusations levied against Jerry Sandusky and conduct their own investigation into the university’s response.

PennLive.comReport: Former coach Jerry Sandusky used charity to molest kids

Current Penn State assistant coach Mike McQueary was identified as the then-graduate assistant who told Penn State staff about discovering Sandusky performing sex acts on a young boy in a university shower in 2002. The grand jury has found McQueary to be a credible witness in their investigation.

CBSSports.com: Paterno releases statement on Sandusky case

In a statement released Sunday, Joe Paterno said he was not made aware of the specific allegations by McQueary in 2002 and said, "if this is true we were all fooled, along with scores of professionals trained in such things, and we grieve for the victims and their families. They are in our prayers."

According to the grand jury presentment, a 1998 report involving Sandusky and a boy in the football shower area was reviewed by University Police and Child Protective Services with the knowledge of then-university counsel Wendell Courtney, who was (and remains) counsel for Sandusky's charity, The Second Mile.

Jerry Sandusky updates: statements, resignations

Well, as you can see, someone did actually investigate this report and did find out there was some truth to it!!!! It is unfortunate it took this long before someone actually decided to do so but thankfully somebody decided to do something about it. If it had been addressed correctly the first time, it is possible the victim count could have been reduced greatly and so many other boys would not have had to suffer at the hands of this man. I am disappointed in all of these men. Everyone involved, if they have children, if they knew anything at all, it was their job to tell it. How can you be a father and know something like that, and not tell it and then look your child in the eyes and not feel like you have failed them??? And another thing the Grad Assistant was 28 right? everybody keeps saying this"kid" was in shock about what he saw and that is why he didn't do anything.  Yes I agree, anybody may have been in shock for second, no one expects to walk in and see that, ever, but then shock turns to protect mode for most EVERYBODY!!!!, adrenaline kicks in, you get the kid out of the situation however you need to and go from there. I just dont understand how anyone can read the report, hear the testimonies,  the admitted lies, cover ups, and still try to support the coaches and staff and university, come on, face it, the way they will all be remembered is no ones fault but their own. They had the opportunity to make a difference years ago and made the wrong choice!

Jerry Sandusky updates: statements, resignations

I read the entire grand jury report.  I recall Sandusky as a coach and how ABC-ESPN did a special on him honoring his 32 years of service to Penn State in 1999.  I read up on Tim Curley and Gary Schultz.  To say there is some bizarre behavior from the key witness McQueary is an understatement.  How could you witness sexual activity between a former coach and a child and not take action.  I understand McQueary was only 28 at the time and was probably shocked by the incident which could explain his bizarre behavior.  This is going to sound very callous but after reading the grand jury report I do not understand how some of the victims would spend so much time sleeping over at Sandusky's home and how the parents would allow this?  I mean seriously the first victim alleges to have oral sex performed on him 20 times, felt uncomfortable and continued to spend time at Sandusky's home?  Was the kid's  mother homeless?

From everything I read I am not and could not make a fair judgement on this case without hearing it from the witnesses and than looking for consistency and inconsistencies with their statements.  I doubt Jerry Sandusky will testify because he cannot help his case.  The only thing I can say with confidence is Joe Paterno more than likely had minimal knowledge and for legal reasons had to defer this to his superiors also based on state and school policy for the state University.  For the defense they will probably bring in every adoption agency person that approved Sandusky along with every foster agency representative that dealt with Sandusky along with state representatives that supported his charity.

I hate to think this is true because it's a black eye on more than just Penn State University it's a black eye on humanity because as Joe said "a lot of people were fooled".

Jerry Sandusky updates: statements, resignations

If they couldn't find enough evidence, those investigating didn't dig far enough.  The graduate asst. said the boy was naked in the shower being abused.   That's enough to call in the cops.  Did they talk to the kid?  I find no mention of that.

Jerry Sandusky updates: statements, resignations

This whole thing disgusts me. Many "responsible" people knew something was amiss (including lawyers, HR/PR chiefs and other executives who were probably consulted at some point since 1998). But, they did very little other than protect the school's rep (until now).

One person that I get increasing angered with is the grad assistant. No, he is not a pedophile, but he caught the monster in the act and did not rescue the child. He told his father and the head coach, but not the police. His father, who is probably a respectable fellow, did not tell the police. The son and father have lived with this for years and not once initiated a report to the police.

In the meantime, the young man became an assistant football coach with PSU and has earned an handsome living and lifestyle since 2002.

Paid off?? Something is really wrong with that picture. I have been wanting to throw up all weekend long.

Jerry Sandusky updates: statements, resignations

And I always thought McQueary was in line to take over when Joe kicked the bucket.  Looks like he'll now be in line to take the fall for the incidents simply because he appears to be the one with least support. Penn. St. needs to sever their ties with Joe Paterno immediately.  It appears he's been condoning sexual molestations for years.

McQuery need to resign too, shame on him for not reporting this to the police, and for that matter leaving the child alone with Sandusky...
