South Carolina expects Shaw to play against UF

With one conference game left on the schedule, Saturday's home game against division rival Florida is a must-win to keep South Carolina's SEC Championship Game hopes alive.  The Gamecocks fell a game behind division-leading Georgia in the standings after their loss to Arkansas. The game not only set them back in their quest for a second-straight SEC East crown, but also jeopardized the playing status of starting quarterback Connor Shaw. The good news out of Columbia this week was that Shaw (concussion) is expected to play against the Gators.

"We think Connor's going to be all right by the middle of the week," head coach Steve Spurrier told the media. "Clint Haggard, our trainer, gave him the test to see how he was doing; and he's been doing very well."

Florida's defense is among the best in the nation, and with the return of starting quarterback John Brantley the Gators were able to end a four-game losing streak against Vanderbilt. They are also expected to have both Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey healthy for the contest, meaning the Gamecocks should expect more offensive production from the opposing offense. Because of the injuries and dismissal of Stephen Garcia, the quarterback position is not especially deep for Ol' Ball Coach. Shaw's backup is redshirt freshman Dylan Thompson, who has only thrown two passes all season.

If South Carolina defeats Florida and Georgia loses in their contest to Auburn on Saturday, the Gamecocks will win the SEC East and return to the SEC Championship Game for the second year in a row. If the Gamecocks lose to Florida in the conference finale, they will need Georgia to lose their final two conference games to win the East. Otherwise the Bulldogs will make the short trip to Atlanta to face the winner of the SEC West.

South Carolina expects Shaw to play against UF

miles and wilds are servicable backs but dont possess the downhill running capability of lattimore...but few in the country do. i think that shaw is going to be good..but consistency seems to have eluded him thus far . your defense is solid up front , one of the best front four in the country but the pass defense showed its lack of skill against east carolina and arkansas...and clemson is more than likely going to present the same problems. im not saying that yall are bad ...just that you are lucky to have the opportunity to win the division with the attrition you have had at the skill positions...that and alshons dissapearing act.

Wilds was pretty good against 10AhC.  If you want to do a comparison, he had more rushing yards in Knoxville than Richardson got against 10AhC in Tuscaloosa. Miles is capable to keep things honest.  There's a massive amount of questions everywhere with the Gamecocks.  Citadel could be our only win and we could still easily go 10-2.  The rest of the games are in Columbia... we just got through a nasty away schedule where the last game was played in Columbia was Auburn (and a nasty game it was).

Everyone's 'honest' observation had us loosing majority of our games after Lattimore was knocked out.  Despite how they try to spin it, Arkansas was not a bad game for the Gamecocks.  You can talk all about the drop passes but until they are caught, they are simply a loss down.  The big difference in the game was turnovers and our OL just flat gave out toward the end.

thats a mighty big IF there Vehemon. your running game is gone...your qb has a concussion and to be honest the circling of the drain might just be starting...citadel may be your only win from here on out. just an honest observation.

Florida's nothing of their former greatness.  This game is in Columbia, I'd give SCar a chance of winning even if Shaw didn't play.  Their defense can keep them in the game.  But go ahead and put Shaw in Mr.Spurrier - let us see what seasonal devastation lies ahead if he gets hurt again on Saturday.

WTF is up with CBS? Do they even know how to discuss the SEC tiebreaker?  If we beat Florida... Georgia HAS to beat Auburn AND Kentucky.  Earlier... they were stating that we lost to Georgia at the beginning of the year.....
