This will come as a shock to many of you, but it seems that there are still some things not every school in the Big 12 can agree on. While the Big 12's interim commissioner Chuck Neinas has said that the conference will remain at 10 schools after adding TCU and West Virginia to replace Texas A&M and Missouri, some members of the conference would still prefer expanding to 12, with Louisville being a top candidate.

The Oklahoman's Berry Tramel spoke with a source who was present when Neinas met with Oklahoma regents last weekend and the source said that Neinas is the driving force behind remaining at 10 schools. Neinas seems to believe the conference is better off without a championship game and playing a round-robin nine-game conference schedule.

Another source in Tramel's column is also very much in favor of the conference expanding and sees Louisville as a key addition.

“We have to explore what type of growth would have to be better for our conference,” the source told Tramel. “There’s no data that a conference of 16 is better than a conference of 12. In our case, the number is not the issue so much as the quality. But to make it better for West Virginia, we have to add Louisville. For our conference stability, adding Louisville is good for us because it would be good for West Virginia. The more we can get people to start talking about the greater good, the more stable this conference can become.”

Tramel also spoke to Oklahoma athletic direcotor Joe Castiglione who also believes that the Big 12 should look to add more schools.

“I think what Chuck might be doing is settling everything down, not letting speculation develop,” Castiglione said. “He may very well believe that staying at 10 is the best thing, and I respect that. But I don’t believe we should stay at 10, not with other moving parts.”

In other words, the more things change in the Big 12 -- new schools, new commissioner -- the more they stay the same.

Expansion still on minds of some in the Big 12

I'm starting to believe that the NCAA should create another division beside FCS and FBS.    They should create a division which would include every major football conference that has more than 12 teams.    This new NCAA division would consist solely of the SEC and the ACC and since those two conferences, along with their teams,  would then be in a different division,  they could not compete with all the rest of the nation's major college football programs.   Those two over-full conferences could have their own Bowl Games and their own NCS game.

Along with the FCS and the FBS a good name for this new 2-conference NCAA division would be the FUS..... or maybe the HOGGS.
Babemantle,

I read and re-read your garbage.  You are an idiot.  I can't be CEO of my favorite Fortune 500 company because of those damn conspiring non satisfied Ivy League Schools.  They should have two Fortune 500 so I can compete in the in one Ivy League fortune 500 LOL I don't think so.  Bevo League should Man up or Shut down.   Big 12 College football Top Divison?  They need drug testing on this site.

Expansion still on minds of some in the Big 12

College football's top division remains messed up and in an uproar due to one single cause.... the SEC and the ACC conferences' insatiable gluttonly for more money!   The SEC and the ACC  (the sec wanna-be)  were not satisfied even though they both were financially and stable.    And both the SEC and ACC already had 12 stable teams to enable them to have a conference-championship game.    But of being content with having several strong stable other top division conferences besides their own,  they started poaching schools and started another chain-reaction of instability and uncertainty.

In reality a 12 team-conference should be considered over-full because the schools don't get to play all their fellow-conference members each season.    &nbs
p; When all of a conference's members don't have the same in-conference schedule (by playing a round-robin conference slate),  each and every season the situation can, and does, favor some teams over others.
Some teams are favored since they get out of playing one or more of the strongest programs,  and some teams are favored by getting to play one or more of the weaker programs.

Expansion still on minds of some in the Big 12

Seperating OU/TU puts the red river rivalry in jeopardy and we have lost enough tradition in the big 12.  one rivalry interdivision game is possible, but seems unfair for both ou and texas, compared to whomever gets the yearly rivalry with kansas!!!

OH NO, ANOTHER PUPPET!!!

Texas Deloss Dodds prefers a ten team big 12.   Our new commissioner prefers a ten team big 12.      I cannot be the only one that sees the correlation.    Oust Nein'sass now, before it gets to BeeBee levels.   See through the veil, all teams but TU and band to gether for an un-buy-essed (unbiased) commissioner.

Expansion still on minds of some in the Big 12

ALL of this stuff we talk about with conference realignment is still a fluid situation.  The BIG EAST is like a roller coaster. One week the BE is going to invite 4 to 6 schools, the next week no school seems to be interested.  The BIG EAST has more problems than Campbell's has soup, and the answer to all of it's "hodgepodge" mess, is right under the BE commissionsr's nose relating to football.  You ND fans can say that the IRISH do not hurt BIG EAST football, but you are wrong, it takes away a bowl bid to another BE team, when ND qualifies. This is not right when ND refuses to play in the BE football conference. I could understand why some prospective new schools for the BE may not be interested in this plan with ND.

Expansion still on minds of some in the Big 12

Maybe Nebraska, Colorado, A&M and Mizzou left the Bevo League NOT because of Texas; rather because of having to travel to a gay friendly city called little san francisco (As in Austin)   I can't believe that you Texas folks believe that is an attribute to get you to PAC 12 LOL.  If so, wander will Mack Brown hire Sandusky to help rebuild the Long horn defense.  PUN INTENDED LOL

Expansion still on minds of some in the Big 12

If the Big 12 does go back to 12 teams, I agree with having Oklahoma and Texas in different divisions. The Big 12 could go to a East and West format or move Ok State and Oklahoma to the north division, or maybe have a Lone Star and Plains division.

Big 12 would be even more dominated by UT and OU if both are in opposite divisions. In the same division either but not both go to the conference championship. See my earlier post for how annual cross division rivalries define the 2 division members.

Expansion still on minds of some in the Big 12

I can't believe the Big 12 hasn't already taken Louisville. WVU needs someone and they need to connect their states. Even if they don't want 12, the Big Ten proved you can play with 11. It really does make sense to go back to 12 though. I don't think there is any chance they can add Notre Dame. I would consider Houston as a 12th school. Texas might be against that. But Houston is a program on the rise. ON top of that, you could move OU into the northern division. That could set up a OU/Texas title game.
