Report: Judge had ties to Sandusky's charity

The Jerry Sandusky scandal in State College took an interesting turn over the weekend, when it was pointed out that the judge who released the former Penn State defensive coordinator on bail had ties to The Second Mile - the charity founded by Sandusky.

Sandusky was charged with 40 counts of sexually abusing children, targeting many of his victims through the organization set up for troubled youths. Prosecutors in the case requested $500,000 bail for Sandusky, but Judge Leslie Dutchcot allowed him to be freed on $100,000 unsecured bail.

Judge Dutchcot's biography on the website of the law firm Goodall & Yurchak previously listed her as a volunteer for The Second Mile. Since news of the ties between the district judge and Sandusky spread, it appears the law firm has opted to pull down all of their attorney and staff profiles from the website.

Dutchcot's ties to Sandusky probably should have been addressed publicly before presiding on the case. If is possible her volunteering could have had no direct contact to the alleged sex offender at all. However, dropping the bail to 20% of the prosecution's request and then pulling the biography from the law firm's website do not help Dutchcot's argument for being the right person to preside over this matter.

As if there isn't a precedent to be suspicious of a judge handling a child case in pennsylvania. Remember kids for cash? Click here if you don't remember.

Some have questioned why the victims did not come forward with this information earlier. Look at what they were up against. The judge that reduced his bail to 20% of what the prosecutors wanted is another example of the true Penn State football first mentality. They plea for other victims to come forward. I'm sure a few have decided to reject the "sincere" offer.

If for no other reason, it certainly gives the impression that you cannot be impartial.
I believe those are the legal buzzwords, or close to it, that a judge must apply when determining whether or not to recuse him/herself.

It is very possible that this lady doesn't know Sandusky or have any direct connections to him, and that all she did was volunteer also at Second Mile.  Having said that, there appears to be enough here to at least question her impartiality, and in order to keep the public's faith in the justice system she should recuse herself.

Hopefully she recuses herself and they find a hanging judge . . .assuming the charges are proven true, of course.

This is so wrong on so many levels.  Justice will never prevail here.

A judge?  Someone that is suppose to be methodical and exercise good judgement?  Huh?  This lady apparently never got that memo.  It should be common sense that she recuse herself.  Good grief.  If for no other reason, it certainly gives the impression that you cannot be impartial.  This man shouldn't have bail at any price IMHO.

The web site for the firm that this judge worked for has taken down all profiles on there web site.  I would suggest everyone send them a "profession" e-mail through the 'Contact Us' portion of the site.  They need to get rid of her in order to save themselves.  Although, they advertise themselves as a "State College" law firm.  I guess that means that all of them would have done the same thing.  I hope they are losing clients left and right.  Clearly, this law firm employs a sympathizer to a child rapist.  They need to hear from the public that this is no way of running a business.
