If bowl games actually followed their conference affiliations the way they're drawn up, then at the moment there isn't much question that Kansas State would be on its way to the Cotton Bowl since Oklahoma State is currently in position to play for the BCS title and Oklahoma is likely to end up at the Fiesta Bowl. Of course, bowl games don't actually work that way and look at a whole bunch of other factors besides where a team finished in the standings.

So while Kansas State is in position to end up in the Cotton Bowl, the bowl game has its eyes on other Big 12 schools as well. Including Texas. Though according to the Cotton Bowl's President Rick Baker, the Longhorns won't be going to Dallas if they lose to Kansas State again on Saturday.

"If Kansas State beats Texas, then Texas will most likely fall off our radar screen," Baker told GoPowercat.com. "I think they'll probably drop from the rankings, too.

"If Texas beat Kansas State, Kansas State could still end up 9-3 and Texas could lose their last two and end up 7-5. If Kansas State wins, it eliminates Texas, but if Texas wins, we'll still have to wait."

Last season the Cotton Bowl chose Texas A&M over Missouri even though the Tigers finished ahead of the Aggies in the Big 12. Baker said the selection was because A&M had won 6 in a row and it had the opportunity to match them up with rival LSU. This year Baker says the Cotton Bowl is looking at Kansas State, Texas and Baylor from the Big 12, and Arkansas, Georgia and South Carolina from the SEC.

How about Okie St in the Cotton Bowl? They will lose to OU, which will give them 2 losses. Cowboys vs Hogs.

Rkansas would be a logical choice for the Cotton Bowl.  An Arkanasas-Texas game would be a great match-up for Jerryworld.  The place would sell out in an hour.  Kansas State would also be a good opponent for Arkansas, though not as good as Texas would be.  Both Georgia and South Carolina would do much better in the Florida Bowl games.

This is Cotton Bowl PR media smoke. It's November and they are talking about the game. Sounds like nomsense news to me.

Pokes21: I am an OSU fan, but can't fault the CB for choosing aTm over OSU last year.  Remember that OSU had been to the CB in 2009, and laid a gigantic egg against Ole Miss.  Even had that not been the case, the bowls prefer not to have repeats by the same team, and the Aggies were on a tremendous roll at the time.  The beat both OU and NU, and OSU had lost to both of them, all since OSU had nipped the Aggies in Stillwater in September.

Yup - Load of crap about the Cotton Bowl; they by-passed both Missouri (losses to Tech and OU) and Oklahoma St (10-2 with only losses to OU and Nebraska).   Both beat Texas A&M and while I understand the snub for Missouri (the fanbase doesn't travel as well as a resurgent A&M); I don't understand how OSU was overlooked - and a 10-2 OSU got pushed down to the Alamo Bowl against an Arizona team that didn't win in November nor December to finish the year at 7-6.   Yup-not a big fan of the Cotton Bowl.

But Texas could finish 9-3 as well.  Bowls want the team with more cache and fans.  There is nothing wrong with the CB officials making this statement IMO.  Personally I am hoping for a Texas Arkansas Cotton Bowl.
