Larry Munson, the iconic voice of the Georgia Bulldogs, has died. Munson's son Michael announced Sunday that his father had passed away at the age of 89 from complications from pneumonia. Munson was the radio play-by-play announcer for the Bulldogs from 1966 to 2008.

Munson's career spanned over 60 years, and included stints in minor league baseball for almost two decades before he made a home in Georgia. While Munson's time in the booth also included stints with the Atlanta Falcons and Georgia Bulldogs basketball team, he was best known for his spirited calls of big Georgia plays, marveling with a gravelly drawl at the spectacle before him.

Munson left the Georgia program in 2008, citing health concerns, and he stayed largely out of the public spotlight in his final years. Still, to millions of Georgia fans, he was inseperable as an entity from the Bulldog football team, and both the broadcasting world and the college football world have lost a legend.

Here are some of Munson's best-known calls.

Run Lindsay Run -- 1980

The Hobnail Boot -- 2001

We'll Try To Kick One A Hundred Thousand Miles -- 1984

My God, A Freshman -- 1980

Watching those calls, and reading the comments gave me chills.  I too grew up listening to Munson.  I remember having the tv sound down, and the radio on for the Hobnail boot game.   We almost broke some furniture that day.  Larry could get you wound up in knots as he fretted and worried.

I am another UGA fan who will show his age by mentioning that I grew up in an age where maybe one or two UGA games were on TV so I had to rely on Larry Munson to bring the game to life on the radio. I can also remember turning off the sound when the game was on tv and listening to Larry Munson on the radio. No one had the ability to bring the game to life like Larry Munson did and he will be missed. RIP Larry and thanks for all of the memories. God bless your family and friends. There will never be another annoucer like Larry Munson.

I have been a Bulldog fan since 1980 and, to me, Larry Munson was Georgia football. His passion, his flair for the dramatic, his gloom and doom...lady luck is against us, and the pure passion and love he showed for the Dawgs will never be matched. When I moved to Missouri, I bought XM Satellite radio solely to hear Munson do the Dawgs games. He is truly a legend and they broke the mold when they made him. God bless you and R.I.P. Larry Munson. You are missed!

Not a Georgia fan, but Munson was great. I loved listening to him call the GA  GA Tech games. Never heard anyone more passionate about their team. When I think of Georgia football, I think of Hershel and Munson. He will be missed!!
