Miami head coach Al Golden has undergone a tumultuous first season, with the team struggling to find consistency and the program rocked by an ongoing NCAA investigation. Golden has repeatedly denied any rumors that he might consider leaving Miami, and on Friday the school the announced a contract extension for the first-year Hurricane.

The school and Golden agreed to terms on a four-year extension that will run through February 1, 2020. Friday's game against Boston College was the final game of the Hurricanes' season, having already pulled out from bowl consideration due the ongoing NCAA inquiry.

"My family loves it in South Florida, we have embraced the community and we could not be more excited about the future of the Miami Hurricanes football team," said Golden in a prepared statement. "I can't thank President Shalala and Shawn Eichorst enough for their support and commitment to our student-athletes and staff. We are ready to hit the recruiting road and begin our preparations for the 2012 season."

An extension for Golden has been rumored since the developments in the NCAA investigation resulted in suspensions for eight players currently on the roster. All of the alleged violations in the case took place before Golden's arrival, and the former Temple coach had no knowledge of the investigation when he accepted the job in December.

Golden's possible departure became a hot topic again once the Penn State job opened up with Joe Paterno's dismissal. In addition to being a tight end for the Nittany Lions, Golden was also linebackers coach on Paterno's staff for the 2000 season. It was not until recently that Golden began to use concrete language when referring to his status with the Hurricanes. A Penn State reporter recently questioned Golden in the ACC weekly coaches' teleconference, and the Miami coach gave his response with more certainty than he had displayed all season.

"I believe I'm going to be the head coach at Miami in 2012, that's correct," Golden said.

The school was wise to release the news before Golden faced the press for post game comments on Friday. Now Miami fans can stop worrying about losing their coach, and focus on the "process" he preaches moving forward.

Miami is AWFUL. I cant believe they just lost to a dreadful Boston College team at home.

I bet Miami fans are glad Jacory Harris is gone. He was a complete bust after his Freshman season.

Maimi must be sick of being purely medicore in college football. They're worse than Notre Dame and Michigan ever were. And thats saying something.

Miami, Al Golden agree to four-year extension

There is no question that Al Golden will build a super competitive program at Miami, provided he is given the support from the fans and administration to get the job done. It is certainly a breath of fresh air to have a solid coach like Al Golden at Miami, and I'm sure we will see positive results.

Hey, Vegas, your bath water is running so you better run upstairs while it's still warm. Just make sure Sandusky isn't hiding in the bubbles.

This coming from a fan of a 6-5 team that'll more than likely finish 6-6 after the FSU game. You ever hear the ol' glass house(s) saying there, GulfCoastGaytor?!

Funny seeing Gator fans talk ish about a sorry a$$ coach. I'll take Golden over Muschamp any day of the week. Golden took over a inconsistent mess of a team along with the allegations from 2001-08. The team improved in performance despite the record. The Gators go from a power house team during the Tebow years do barely a blip on the SEC radar.

As for vegasrugger, we are enjoying ourselves down in South Florida as I'm pretty sure you can't say the same in Pedophile State University. The future looks better for us than you guys. Say what you want about the U, we may have had players who stole cars, committed assault, theft, and anything else you can think of. But at least you'd never see a sex scandal like what's going on at Penn St. happen at the U.

Once Golden brings in his recruits UM will be top 5 every year... after the work this guy did with the Temple Owls he should be in the college football hall of fame. He built a team that would win one game in three years to a team that came with in a play of beating Penn St this year.

We'll take Al for the next 4 years. He didn't have the greatest talent pool to work with this season. It will get better once Jacory leaves. I'm not sure he was ever considering the coaching spot at PSU, if it was even offered. It doesn't seem like many coaches are throwing their hats into the ring for the PSU job, that will be a cancer for years. There isn't a more deserving program than PSU to have a downfall like we've seen in the past few weeks.

WHEW!! So glad Golden is staying with Miami. He's not that good of a a coach and I really didn't want him to go to PSU. That nice easy win against a 3-8 BC was proof of how good he is. Oh wait, they lost? No way!! haha, enjoy life in south florida!!

The "u" falls to 6-6 and losses to a 3-8 BC Football Team at home. Yeah, I can see the BIG rush to give Golden an additional 4 year extension to his current contract. You're afraid he's going to bolt for Penn State? Really? And if he did would you be any worse off? Good luck with Coach Golden for the next 9 seasons!

Lets not criticize Jacory for the two picks... BC’s defense is a good one from the linebackers to the secondary... Jacory is trying to make some plays... were those passes completed or not intercepted, they would be going for a lot of yards and people would be praising his cock like never before, but because they have been picks, people will come out and crush him... thats what uneducated, bandwagon miami fans do best... he is trying to make the plays to help this team win... the receivers are not helping much... a lot of dumb penalties by the offensive line... its not all on jacory... history shows that miami sports fans are the biggest bandwagoners and uneducated... people claim that they are happy he is gone and that stephen morris is getting the job... but as soon as stephen morris starts to faulter or who ever the QB is, people will be on him also and talking the same shit... people are never satisfied in this city... its not about accepting medocrity, its about being thankful that the team isnt in a worse situation like a lot of other teams out there
