So it turns out that no matter what happens in Friday night's inaugural Pac-12 Championship Game, it will not be the final time UCLA plays this season. The NCAA announced on Wednesday that it had approved UCLA's bowl waiver petition.

“As a program, we appreciate the NCAA approving our petition for a bowl waiver,” said UCLA Director of Athletics Dan Guerrero in a release. “We will be able to give our 18 seniors one more chance to represent their university and end their collegiate careers on a high note, regardless of the outcome of this Friday’s Pac-12 Championship Game. We’d like to thank the NCAA for considering the unique situation in which we find ourselves this year and rewarding us with this opportunity.”

The reason this was in question was because UCLA finished the regular season at 6-6, in second place in the Pac-12's South Division, but due to USC's postseason ban, the Bruins were the team to move on to the championship game. Well, if UCLA loses that game against heavily-favored Oregon, the Bruins would be 6-7 on the season, and teams with losing records aren't normally allowed to play in bowl games.

That is, not without a waiver from the NCAA.

As for where UCLA would play in a bowl game, CBSSports.com's Jerry Palm currently has the Bruins projected to face Illinois in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl

NCAA approves UCLA's bowl waiver petition

Once again the NCAA shows its colors.  This is BS.  UCLA is terrible and deserves no waiver.  Next thing you know, Arizona State will get a waiver because they fired their coach.  Poor babies.  Should Minnesota get a waiver because they were inept.  Maybe Minnesota and UCLA can play in the Toilet Bowl.

Hope the projection is right and UCLA plays Illinois.  One team that will be 6-7 and another that lost six in a row to finish 6-6.  And both which just fired their coaches.  Worst. Bowl Game. Ever
and all the hillbilly Big 10 fans and pothead Pac 12 fans will claim both teams would of won the SEC if only everone wasnt so biased.

What a JOKE..... so UCLA will finish 6-7 a LOOSING record and can go bowling, while 2 hours down the 5 freeway San Diego State will finish 8-4 and may not get a bowl bid..... WTF!!!!!

exactly.....its not about fairness or even competetion. Its about making sure as much money as possible stays with the smallest number of schools.

NCAA approves UCLA's bowl waiver petition

This is what happens when 70 teams get to play in bowls every year.  NCAA football is exciting to watch, but the Bowl/Championship system is beyond broken.  The minor adjustment proposals will never fix this, only a complete overhaul of the college football system will ever allow this to be fixed.

-10 conferences of 12 teams each (Major realignment required, based on region, not talent.  This will never happen)
-Conference champs get into playoffs (along with 2 wild card teams, based on rankings)
-Rankings determine seed (top 4 get byes, like NFL)

Championship game is only neutral site game, all others are home field advantage.

Rest of the teams not in the playoffs can go play whatever Starbucks - Meineke Muffler - Brooks, Brooks, Brooks and Brooks, Attorney at Law Bowl they want.  As long as their are playoffs, no one else will care.

Only things stopping this are greed, people barking about stupid traditions (we can all make new stupid traditions, they have to start somewhere) and greed.

I love how you take a crack at the SEC. I would love to see what UCLA's record would be if they played in the SEC. I can assure you they wouldn't have that 4-4 conference record that you are so proud of...
