Now that Urban Meyer has officially taken the head coach job at Ohio State the process to fill out the rest of Meyer's coaching staff has begun, and reportedly Urban has his eyes on former Arizona head coach Mike Stoops.

According to a report from Oklahoma's News9.com, Stoops has been offered the co-defensive coordinator job at Ohio State. The report did not indicate whether Stoops will accept the job, and says that he's been offered opportunities to become a head coach at a few other undisclosed schools as well.

Then there's the option of Stoops returning to Oklahoma to coach alongside current Oklahoma defensive coordinator Brent Venables and under his brother, Bob Stoops.

Mike Stoops spent five seasons at Oklahoma before moving on to take the head coaching position at Arizona in 2004. He spent eight seasons at Arizona, appearing in three bowl games, before being fired this season after getting off to a 1-5 start.

Pfft... I am sure with Urban and Ohio's track record they will probably just hire Sandusky... heard he does great with tight ends.

Anyone know who he'll take on as Special Teams coach? Hope its Ryan Solesky who used to do the same job when he was at Florida

Love it if Stoops came to NU!! He was in Bo's wedding and the 2 are truly great friends from childhood. I think Stoops will be a force as a D coordinator once again.

Don't forget about the Stoops connection to Bo Pelini. Especially with Carl Pelini heading to FAU. The Defensive Coordinator position not the "CO" defensive coordinator has opened....

I agree with you, .  I fear that going to a lessor program could be a dead-in for Mike.  I still think Mike should take a job as DC with 'The Pirate' at Washington State.  Leach will build an offense there and Mike Stoops is fresh off of recruiting and scouting the PAC.  I would help make Washington State so strong that they would shake the PAC up for good.  They worked well together as OC and DC while together at Oklahoma.

After a few years of helping build a power house at WSU, I would hold out for a big time head coaching job where you weren't quite starting from scratch.  Mike Stoops did a good job at Arizona but college football is not patient.

Great hire by tOSU, no doubt they will have success, but they are still a dirty program. Always have been, always will be.

This will be interesting for Mike Stoops, I would agree with some here that he was overmatched as the Head Coach at AZ, he just could not get to the next level. The questions he really needs to ask himself is what place I land at will help me the most. He was his brother DC before and went to AZ, since his fireing he has to figure going back to his brother at OK will limimt his ability to get another Head Coaching job. His brother left to go to Florida as the Stoops coaching tree has not blossom as much as the Meyer tree.

Do not see him going to a mid-major or Ill, he will be a DC for a Head Coach that will help him get back to being in the discussions for major programs. A&M is not a good oppurtunity as they have been mediocure for years and recuirting there is difficult.

He would be a good fit with the personel at Ohio State and the young defense they have coming. With only losing so few players and mostly Soph. and Fresh.  he can build  a dominatiing defense that can be at the top for one or two years.

I figured Mike Stoops would be a good fit for the head coaching job at A&M.

I think Meyer has slim pickings out there.. Take Stoops for him to take that position would be quite a come down from being a head coach. The very best are already taken.........good luck Meyer
