Chris Petersen turns down UCLA's offer

Since firing Rick Neuheisel, UCLA's top choice to be their new head coach has been Boise State's Chris Petersen, but it doesn't look like UCLA is something Petersen is interested in.

According to a report at ESPN.com, UCLA reached out to Petersen and was told that he will not be a candidate.

Petersen also gave up quite a bit to stay at Boise, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times on Friday night. Petersen was apparently offered a deal that would have paid him nearly $4 million a year and given him $3 million to spend on assistants. Petersen reportedly turned down the money and chose to stay at Boise State for "lifestyle reasons."

Now that Petersen is out of the running, it's not clear who UCLA's second choice would be, though Houston's Kevin Sumlin, former Oregon head coach Mike Belotti and former Raiders head coach Tom Cable have all been mentioned as possible candidates. If Sumlin is next on the list, UCLA will have to move fast as he's a popular choice at just about every other school with a coaching vacancy at the moment.

Petersen has been the head coach at Boise State since 2006 and his name has come up as a candidate at many different schools over that time, but he's never left Boise State nor has he expressed much interest in doing so.

UCLA plays Oregon on Friday night in the Pac-12 Championship Game.

Chris Petersen won't be going to UCLA

BigRed - Please enlighten us poor dumb hicks.  Wait a second I got to go get my teeth back from Joe Bob so I can eat this thing I hit with my pick-um-up-truck.
You must work for ESPN?  No?
Maybe a scout for the Da Bears?............  Not!!
Please learn me about your great football mind.  I am going to help Pete stratigize for BSU's next high school opponent....

Why do you think Pete's name keeps showing up when a high profile job comes open???? ..............Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Maybe its because he is not just good, he is very good.   Unless, of course you say different.    &

boise jr college moved to a mediocre conference and cant even win that!  what a joke!  they get another schedule full of high school teams and cant beat them!  how can they be voted in top 10...easy, just like houston.  its not because they are good, they just get the sympathy vote.  i just wish boise jr college had the sack to step up to a real conference...but the big east is the only thing left.  they are too retarded to (academically ineligible) to join pac12.  keep your pop-warner, hail mary offense where it belongs...up in the potato fields.  now go kill something...freak

This coming from a Nebraska fan.  Hey, way to beat up on Chatanooga.  How was that game against Fresno; you know, the "highschool" team.  Let's see, Boise " Jr College" managed to hand them their asses in their own stadium, yet Nebraska let them hang 30 on them in their own house.  Solid performance though against a high school team.  Good for you.  You lost to Northwestern.  Enough said.

@Gipper10

Yep I can see the success your team is havng with Brian Kelly. It really matters not to me who notre dame or ucla hire as head coaches as long as they line up each year for their annual SC beat downs.

I see that your winnnig coach has moved up to the big boys and is getting smacked around. Stanford laid it to their butts and then of course we came to Touch down Jesus house and laid an a$$ whooping on ya.

I can understand how you can be an expert on who to hire as a head coach, your school is about the leader for hiring and firing coaches over the past decade.

Ya'll at South Bend keep churining them out. What coach are you going to get from the lower level when you fire Kelly next season. I'll bet you go out and get Pete from Boise.

when your game plan is much like a high school team, that doesnt play well with real football teams.

You're right.  It didn't play well against Oklahoma, Oregon, Georgia, or V-Tech did it??  Let me guess, it only plays well once a year right??  Pretty sure that high school game plan has kept them ranked in the top ten more consistently over the past 5 years than 90% of the "real football teams".  If all the voters really thought like you do and insisted that it only works once a year against a good team and is guaranteed to work only against a conference full of "creampuffs", they wouldn't vote them so high every year.  They would wise up to the situation like you have, being that your smarter than all of them, and punish them by ranking them no higher than 20.  That doesn't seem to be happening though does it?  You're cute little theory is pathetic and you should just go away until you learn about the game.

Coach Pedro would rather stay in a conference that beats up terrible teams each week, he does not have enough sack to move to the Pac 12....besides he would have to change out his blue thong underwear he now sports.

, peterson didnt have to get boise back to anywhere because dan hawkins had already built a successful program at boise

This comment proves that you know nothing about Boise State so why do you attempt to post about them???  Dan hawkins didn't do crap for BSU and the proof was in his record at Colorado.  Petersen is the one who built the successful program and Petersen is the one who disigned the plays.  All Hawkins did was take the credit for Petersens accomplishment.

Petersen is smart.  Why go to a dead end job at UCLA.  As long as Dan Guerrero is the A.D, UCLA will be a 2nd rate team in the Pac 12 Conference.  The next move that UCLA should make is to hire Mike Bellotti and give him total control of the Foorball Program.  Force Guerrero to the sidelines as far as the football program is concerned.  Let Guerrero concentrate on Womens Softball.  That is where he belongs.
