Chris Petersen turns down UCLA's offer

Since firing Rick Neuheisel, UCLA's top choice to be their new head coach has been Boise State's Chris Petersen, but it doesn't look like UCLA is something Petersen is interested in.

According to a report at ESPN.com, UCLA reached out to Petersen and was told that he will not be a candidate.

Petersen also gave up quite a bit to stay at Boise, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times on Friday night. Petersen was apparently offered a deal that would have paid him nearly $4 million a year and given him $3 million to spend on assistants. Petersen reportedly turned down the money and chose to stay at Boise State for "lifestyle reasons."

Now that Petersen is out of the running, it's not clear who UCLA's second choice would be, though Houston's Kevin Sumlin, former Oregon head coach Mike Belotti and former Raiders head coach Tom Cable have all been mentioned as possible candidates. If Sumlin is next on the list, UCLA will have to move fast as he's a popular choice at just about every other school with a coaching vacancy at the moment.

Petersen has been the head coach at Boise State since 2006 and his name has come up as a candidate at many different schools over that time, but he's never left Boise State nor has he expressed much interest in doing so.

UCLA plays Oregon on Friday night in the Pac-12 Championship Game.

Chris Petersen won't be going to UCLA

Hell no Peterson won't be going to UCLA or anywhere else for that matter.

He saw what happened to Dan Hawkins when he left Boise State, washed out in less than 5 years with a .327 record.

Football gets really tough when you have to play a real schedule in a real conference.

Chris Petersen won't be going to UCLA

As if anybody with half a clue didn't know Chris Peterson taking the UCLA job was a pipe dream. A pipe dream Dan Guerrero had. He's somebody who must not have half a clue. To put Tom Cable on his list is proof. What's he trying to do? Emulate USC by hiring an ex-Raiders coach? Hey Dan, look at his record while coaching his alma mater. He's a proven loser at both the college and pro levels. He can't judge talent or recruit. The Raiders improved to a height of 8-8 in spite of him. They got there because of Hue Campbell coming in and becoming the offensive coordinator. Al Davis demanded it after watching Cable call the plays the previous year. Davis promptly fired Cable after seeing the improvement Campbell sparked and immediately elevated Hue into the head job. That's right, he fired Cable after he had his career best season of 8-8. Wow! After several seasons of head coaching experience he finally had one that wasn't under .500 and got fired. Previous to that his lifetime winning percentage was under .300. Now that's the kind of head coach an AD without half a clue would seek out to take over a college program, perhaps at the Div 3 level. You could excuse him for that because it's probably his first job. There's no excuse for a Pac 12 school making that kind of error. That's why Guerrero needs to be replaced before he gets to hire UCLA's next coach. This guy's in way over his head.

Chris Petersen won't be going to UCLA

I admire Neuheisel for finishing what he started.  The kids didn't fire him.  As for Peterson, he is a great coach who has helped build a program that needs him.  Great coaches understand that coaching is more about the kids and their futures instead of the money and the glory...

Chris Petersen won't be going to UCLA

Why would anyone want to leave a winning program to lead a school that would would struggle against mid major conferences accross the country?

UCLA isn't what it was (not even close), they fell asleep the last 15 years and aren't anything close to what they once were...to think they're going to get a premier coach from the lower ranks shows how ignorant and full of themselves that school really is.

Chris Petersen won't be going to UCLA

ol' Chris Petersen should sit tight...PERIOD.

Just maybe he will be able to fend off the the liar, big money users in the "search committees" that steal talented, happy, successful coaches from programs such as Boise's.

...to see rick neuheisle fired from ucla like he was...and carried off on the shoulders of the most important parts of that  program, namely, the football players, and RN's responce to his ugly treatment w/ words like, thank you for the chance, and, I think we're headed in the right direction....and still gonna coach out the season, gladly...

...well that speaks of RN's qualities, NOT ucla's

UCLA will grind up the next coach, blame him for the the schools new position among its PAC-12 members, that is, a .500 team most of the time!...and then humiliate and dismiss him like old garbage...

...that's what awaits the next "saviour"...man, who wants that shit

SCARED TO COMPETE.

comfy playing NMSU and UTEP.

11 wins a year and a Vegas Bowl birth is all CP wants.

Yep he's scared....idiot. I thought you had died in a gang shooting b-wood. This could be your first post that I've seen where you're not puting down the school to the east that owns the baby blue and piss. So woody's panties are in a bunch because how could anyone turn down the mighty bruins...lol

News flash! He has a special needs child and he's not willing to put his family into a situation that whould disturb the balance of said family. For God sake, they'll buy him a house in Santa Monica (10 min away) and it'll take him 45 min to get to work.

Go squeeze your sour grapes and make your whine somewhere else dumbass.

Why should he leave one of the best teams in the country (year after year) for ANY other program? Seems pretty simple to me that he's not in it for the big bux...but for the pride of winning. Boise isn't afraid of any team & will play anybody anytime...and usually beat 'em. Get a grip dood...they don't play UTEP nor do they play NMSU. University of New Mexico just happens to be in their conference. Boise has only lost 3 games in the past 4 years...by a total of 5 points (TCU 16-17, Nevada 31-34, TCU 34-35). They HAVE recently beat Oregon twice, TCU, Oregon State, Virginia Tech, Georgia...and Oklahoma before all that.
