One of the most wide-open Heisman races in recent memory has entered the final stage, with the finalists for this year's Heisman Trophy being named on Monday evening.

The following players will be in attendance for the presentation of the award in New York City, in alphabetical order:

Montee Ball, Wisconsin
Robert Griffin III
, Baylor
Andrew Luck, Stanford
Tyrann Mathieu, LSU
Trent Richardson
, Alabama

The iconic stiff-arm trophy will be presented to "the most outstanding player in collegiate football" on Saturday evening in the official ceremony hosted by the Heisman Trophy Trust.  The last time five players were finalists for the Heisman Trophy was 2009 when Mark Ingram, Toby Gerhart, Colt McCoy, Tim Tebow, and Ndamukong Suh all made the trip to New York.

""The iconic stiff-arm trophy will be presented to "the most outstanding player in collegiate football" " - Do we really want this title on a person suspended for testing positive for Drugs. This is an insult to the College players that follow the rules and deserve recognition for it. NO ONE SHOULD NOT EVEN BE ON THE LIST IF THEY WERE SUSPENDED FOR ANY MISCONDUCT DURING THE SEASON."

I agree 100% with this.  If he continues to perform like this next year (if not better) and stays clean then let him have his shot at the heisman, but doing it this year just shows the whole heisman system to be completely and utterly corrupt with no integrity what-so-ever.

Yellow Haired Freak Clown Only Needs A Red Nose

Why would the inviters invite a pot head with yellow hair that olnly needs a red nose to look like a midget clown in the New Orleans Freak Show. He is a HUNNY BEAR, OK. Could he take the pounding that Trent takes week after week? Can he run and throw like RG 3 ? Is he smart enough to read the d's and throw passes like Luck ?  Those answer are not no but HELL NO. HE can run kicks back and thats about it. Put any  corner back on LSU on a clean blitz and they can what he can. This is a joke pick. It makes a few good player left off looking like dummys.  RG 3 will win and the midget clown will finish LAST where he should.

While I do not disagree with the names of the people who have been invited to the Heisman ceremonies but I would be remiss if I did not mention that I think it is a travesty that Brandon Weeden of Oklahoma State did not make the list.  We all think and agree that Andrew Luck belongs on the list, right?  We all probably agree that RGIII should be on the list too, right?  Well, if you look at the body of work of both of those guys and compare it to Brandon Weeden and you'll see that he has similar numbers to RGIII in terms of passing and completion percentage, and most importantly Weeden's play carried Oklahoma State to it's first Big 12 championship and first BCS bowl game.  Weeden has more wins than all of the people mentioned other than Mathieu and Richardson and Luck.  Brandon Weeden had one bad game this year and it happened in Ames Iowa a couple of weeks ago and I honestly think that the plane crash that affected the school affected the entire team's play.  All Weeden has done all season long is dominate.  What is often forgotten is that although Justin Blackmon is Weeden's favorite target Weeden still spread the ball around like nobody's business.

I'm happy for the people who made it but I am sad because I think they left a very worthy candidate out.  I did not expect Weeden to win the award, but it would have been nice to have been recognized for being one of the best players in the country during the Heisman ceremonies.

Luck has earned it.  I can't recall a player who has such expectations placed on him.  Everyone (Phil Simms included) keep trying to find fault and have to reach to find anything to criticize.  Finally someone placed academics ahead of big $ from NFL and all he gets is pop shots from jealous tweaks.  He calls most of the plays, hasn't had a bona fide wide receiver all year, and directs a running attack because the Stanford defense is soft and they must play ball control.  Give the award to the guy who earned it...Andrew Luck.
