One of the most wide-open Heisman races in recent memory has entered the final stage, with the finalists for this year's Heisman Trophy being named on Monday evening.

The following players will be in attendance for the presentation of the award in New York City, in alphabetical order:

Montee Ball, Wisconsin
Robert Griffin III
, Baylor
Andrew Luck, Stanford
Tyrann Mathieu, LSU
Trent Richardson
, Alabama

The iconic stiff-arm trophy will be presented to "the most outstanding player in collegiate football" on Saturday evening in the official ceremony hosted by the Heisman Trophy Trust.  The last time five players were finalists for the Heisman Trophy was 2009 when Mark Ingram, Toby Gerhart, Colt McCoy, Tim Tebow, and Ndamukong Suh all made the trip to New York.

The damn West Coast bias is at it again!

Hey...last time I looked, Wisconsin, Texas, Alabama, and Louisiana aren't near the West Coast.  I bet you think the US has 57 states, just like our inglorious leader.

I think they should require all of the teams to play in a conference with a conference championship to qualify for the National Championship game and then build a bracket with the winners of the other conference champions. Sure you would have an Alabama complaining this year in a system like that they are more deserving than say the Conference USA champion but in my opinion make them when their confernce and if they fail suck it up and try again next year. You are going to have some teams in the bracket from weaker confereces but they will get eliminated pretty quick and maybe after a few years of getting embarresed some of these other conferences will work on building some better teams.

What Am I Missing???

If 1759 rushing yards (leading the nation.), 32 rushing TD's (leading the nation), 38 total TD's (leading the nation), 255 receiving yards and even a passing TD, dont get Ball a Heisman Trophy they may as well never give a RB a Heisman again. I believe there will not be another RB that is more deserving than Ball is this year for a long time.

He is about to break a record of one of the most sucessful and outstanding college RB's to ever play the game. (Barry Sanders) This records was thought to be untouchable by most.

He plays for a team that most believe could have possibly played for a BCS championship. To the person who said this years Wisconsin offense could not play in the SEC and put up numbers... you do not know college football. 3 First Team All-Americans including Ball and one of the best QB's in the nation. If Richardson, Luck or Honey Badger wins this award, I will puke all over the TV. Guess I better rent a rug doctor on Saturday afternoon.

This doesn't work because you play two games that yield two winners and still have #1 sitting out there.  If you are going to have #1 get a bye you have to do a 2 team playoff.

I don't know about the TV people but I know the buisnesses in New Orleans hate it when LSU is playing for a championship, or bowl game in the Dome since the folks making the 1 hour trip from Baton Rouge typically don't spend nearly as much money in town as people from out of state.

Bama Fan wanting a playoff.   How about a top 5 playoff   2 vs 5 and 3 vs 4 winners play and that winner plays 1 for championship.   &nbs
p;
No 1 get a bye to the championship (reward for being no 1).   Sound fair to me.   But, the money people will never go for it.

Amen.  The game is in New Orleans.  It was going to be SEC teams playing in the, "championship" one way or the other.
It s time for a playoff folks.  Conference champions and a couple at large bids.  College football and figure skating have something in common.  The winners are, "judged" and voted on.  CMON MAN!
