Auburn RB Michael Dyer suspended for bowl game

Auburn's struggling offense was dealt another blow late Saturday as leading rusher Michael Dyer has suspended for the Tigers' Chick-Fil-A matchup against Virginia.

The suspension has reportedly been handed down for a violation of an undisclosed team rule. Gene Chizik has not yet officially addressed the issue.

With Auburn's lackluster quarterback play and a banged-up receiving corps, Dyer was often his team's only legitimate offensive threat this season. But he still finished with 1,242 rushing yards to become the first Auburn player ever to rush for more than 1,000 yards in two seasons, good enough for first-team All-SEC honors.

Though Dyer's absence will mean a heavier load for second-leading rusher Onterio McCalebb (532 yards), McCalebb's lack of between-the-tackles size should also mean a larger role for true freshman Tre Mason. Mason has been used mostly on kick returns this season but has averaged better than 5 yards per-carry in limited action.

The Cavaliers rank 35th nationally in rush defense--weaker than many of Auburn's opponents in their SEC schedule, but easily high enough that the Tigers face a stiff challenge on the ground with Dyer out.

Auburn RB Michael Dyer suspended for bowl game

My knowledge of the SEC AND Awbun goes WAY back, so please spare me the "you don't know" crap for another topic. Cheesestick will become the same coach he was at Iowa State now that Bobby Lowder and his banks money is no longer running the football program at the lovliest village on the plains. You know and we ALL know it. So, like I said in my original post to , enjoy the SEC and BS Championship from last year and get back to your rightful place or 3rd or 4th in the SEC West and spare the rest of the World all the "Family", "War Eagle" and "All in" garbage. For Coach Cheesestick and Cam to use the phrase "Family" is a joke. It's like a man getting a model to pose as his wife with his family for a Christmas Card, sure it looks like "family" but is it really?

What was your argument in the 90s when the SEC West was an after thought year after year as UT and Florida rolled over the SEC West like a door mat?

JaxDawg05,

Or maybe UGA can recruit but not coach. Any UGA fan knows they have no control over their players (see Crowell for example) so the fact that you are even commenting on this thread is laughable. UGA would know all about taking the back seat in the division now wouldn't they? The fact of the matter is Auburn will compete for the SEC West title in the next few years while UGA scrambles to find a new coach.

As for people making ignorant comments about Auburn or any SEC team for that matter not disclosing the reason a player is suspended that is pretty much the standard answer from any coach in any conference. The only reason arrests come out is because they are public record so if it was an arrest you will find out. If it pertains to grades you will find out even though those are supposed to be closed records (see the privacy act). Before you type something at least do your research so you don't look like ignorant fools who are merely attempting to take a shot at a school you don't like.

As if a backdoor East title every once in a blue moon and subsequent beatdown at the hands of a West squad were anywhere close to third or fourth in the West.  If Georgia were in the West, with Richt at the helm, it would be in a "dawgfight" with the other Bulldogs and Ole Miss to stay out of the West cellar each year.

Maybe UGA is too tight with the purse strings to bring in mercenaries that don't care about the university? Enjoy your BCS crystal and go back to being the 3rd  or 4th team in the SEC West and hopefully the karma that Cam and Nick have left at Toomer's Corner won't last too much longer. Do go away mad Barner, just go away.......

Hey BigdaddyQH,

What was the score of the LSU-UGA game in the SEC championship? Oh yeah...and Auburn won the NC last year. No Auburn fan is happy with the season even though it's a "rebuilding" season as some want to call it because AU has one of the youngest starting line-ups in the FBS. But I'll take a NC last year and a "rebullding" this year this year over UGA's pitiful teams the last few seasons with no NC and no BCS to show for their efforts this year.

Chizik has always suspended any player who breaks the rules, personally I dont think cannibus should be illegal but thats just my opinion.People can joke saying "you cant get suspended from that program" but they know nothing about the Auburn program.Tuberville and now Chizik will suspend the best player on the team before a big game in a minute and its happened before.Dyer broke the rules and he cannot play, simple as that.If he went to school in Tuscalooser his suspension would be next year in the first out of confrence game that dosent matter.Little spanky saban has shown he wont punish a player during a game that matters.Urban Meyer was the same way at Florida and there are several other examples,Tressel tried to hide infractions so his best could play.Chizik has always suspended any player that break the rules and thats how he runs the Auburn program, very clean.

Guess we'll find out if Auburn can respond to Dyer out the same way that South Carolina did when Lattimore when down to injury!

Must have been a bad act to get suspended by that program.  Notice that not much will be released from campus (meaning classroom attendance or performance) or the local authorities (if the cause for suspension was due to interaction with local authorities, meaning charges filed, arrest made and conviction pending) without direct guidance and considerable "coaching" from inside or "above" the program.

Interesting how much detail comes from certain programs' player indiscretions and how little comes from others, and our truth seeking media rarely ever questions why this disparity exists and some never even acknowledge that it exists.  God forbid they bite the hand that feeds them...

Dude...............Are you serious?  Pot, kettle, Black. Didn't the AD of UGA (Damon Evans) get caught in a DUI & cheating on his ole lady?  Don't act like UGA doesn't have it's own issues & I'm not even going to bring up the arrests of UGA players.

There's trouble on every campus & to act like AU has more issues the UGA would only be the rationale of a huge DA.  If Dyer was arrested there will be a police report & it will go public shortly.  If it's another issue, the reason for the suspension will probably stay internal & I hope that Dyer learns from it & comes back next year better than ever.  (Dyer did more this year than I could imagine while playing w/ the worst QB play that I have ever seen on the plains).

Either way - I hope accepts his punishment, learns from it, & comes back strong

Uh-- there was a guy named Bo who ran for over 1200 yards for his sophomore year and then ran for fover 1700 for his senior year when he was awarded the Heisman Trophy.
