UPDATE: LaMichael James has since denied the Oregonian report that he would be entering the NFL draft.

James could have gone pro last season but instead decided to return to improve his draft stock, and did so by adding 15 pounds and returning punts.

Depending on who else will be declaring for the NFL draft, James is currently fifth in the CBSSports.com NFL draft rankings at running back.

Though he still has a game left in his career at the Rose Bowl against Wisconsin, James is already Oregon's all-time leading rusher with 4,923 yards and also has scored more rushing touchdowns than any other back in school history with 52.

James turning pro would be a big loss for Oregon but it's not as if the Ducks are hurting at the running back position. Kenjon Barner rushed for 909 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, and he's expected to return for his senior year. Then there's DeAnthony Thomas, who had 1,011 total yards and 14 touchdowns in his first season while being named the co-Freshman of the Year in the Pac-12.

Oregon's James denies report he is going pro

EverybodyDuck
You bring up some good points in your post but you were wrong about one in particular. USC went undefeated in Pac 10 play and went to the Natty 2 years in a row. In doing that they also did something that Oregon still hasnt done and that is actually win one of those National Championship games. You talk about how Oregon missed a chip shot FG that WOULD HAVE sent the game into OT which is correct but it didnt happen. If you want to go that rout then if the refs would have replayed the play where Vince Young pitched the ball to Selvin Young in the 05 NCG when his knee was down first USC would have won its 3rd National Championship in a row. Something that Oregon has Never done EVER. You can talk about what ifs all day but the bottom line is either it happens or it doesnt. I would have loved to see Oregon vs USC in a rematch for the Pac 12 title this year but your right they were still on probation so it didnt happen. It really could have gone either way too. Yes there have been times in recent years that the Ducks have whooped our behinds bad. But there have also been years when the Ducks vs SC werent even nationally televised because the Ducks were an afterthought and got demolished. You say Oregon was missing guys due to injury and stuff that game and thats the reason why you lost well it happens to everyone but in sports its not an exuse. Your offensive stars played and couldnt score like you normally do. SC took the Ducks out of their game and nobody is willing to give them at least that credit. The reason why we SC fans are getting all puffed up is because of the way they played this year and who is coming back. We also have years of success to remind us of how SC plays and we can now go back to our normal expectations which is winning. Dont get me wrong the Ducks are a good team and program but they will not have as easy a road now that SC can play for more than just pride again.

Oregon's James denies report he is going pro

JD
I hope that LMJ does have a good career but the problem that i think he will have is he wont be the guy going in between the tackles. Quizz and do that and will have a longer career because of that. LMJ is more of a Sproles type back and needs to go to the right team or he wont have much of a career. It also seems that he has had times of thinking he is footballs gift to the world and will have a serious wake up call coming his way when he gets rocked by the likes of a Lewis from Baltimore or any other hard hitting LBs, Safeties and DE's. again i hope he is not a bust but if he doesnt go to the right team or the right system hell be doomed before he even gets a chance to show what hes got. I think his best destination would be Denver honestly. Its what hes used to and the transistion wouldnt be that big for him.

Oregon's James denies report he is going pro

Onterrio Smith was doing VERY well starting in the NFL before he kept getting busted for smoking weed. His backfield mate Maurice Morris is still scoring TD's to this day.

And LMJ's stock has not fallen a single bit. If anything, it's rising. Many of the NFL greats are the same size as James. Quizz doesn't have speed...LMJ has power AND speed. I promise you now, LMJ will have a good NFL career. Whether he can be great depends on LMJ.

Oregon's James denies report he is going pro

James has shown all he has during his three years at Oregon-and his performance has been outstanding. He doesn't have much hope of improving his draft prospects by staying another year at Oregon.

Oregon's James denies report he is going pro

Typical Duck post, win a big game first then talk. And to be quite honest, a Rose Bowl win this year is really not that big of a win. For the Duck program it would be, but as a statement game....... nope!

Oregon's James denies report he is going pro

Last time i checked, guys like Warrick Dunn, Jamal Charles, Chris Johnson, all have been pretty good NFL backs while being "undersized".  He will add 10-15 pounds, and if he's a 5th round pick, he will be a steal.  Ray Rice and MJD are both small albeit stronger than Lamichael, but with all the 3 WR sets and spread it out offenses, he'll find his way in the NFL.

Oregon's James denies report he is going pro

Why take all the attention away from a team that is about to lose it's fourth straight BCS game.
This is Wisky's fourth straight BCS game?

EverybodyDuck, you must be the most confused person on the planet.
I admit to being scattered at times, but most confused on the planet, way above my pay grade.

Oregon won two straight from USC and in the world of what have you done lately SC beat the Ducks in Eugene this year.
Excuse me, I was there for all three of those games.  Yes, Oregon missed a chip shot that would have sent the game into overtime this year.  And, yes, Oregon was missing a number of defensive starters due to injury.  However, Oregon won the PAC 12 Title and USC did not.

Last year, I was at your stadium and watched Oregon take you to the woodshed in the second half.  USC lost and Oregon was Conference Champion headed to the Natty having defeated every team in the PAC 10.  Which is a feat that was never accopmplished by ANY USC team, ever.

The year before I was in Autzen on a cold Halloween night when the Ducks absolutely curbstomped the Trojans.  Again, winning the Conference and going to the Rose Bowl.  That was a fun night in Eugene!

The numbers don't lie, SC has won 5 of the past 8 meetings in the last decade against the Ducks
USC has lost 8 0f the last 14 meetings against Oregon.  In the last twenty years you lose more than you win playing the Ducks.  Next year, the record will be 9 of the past 15.

Again, it is nice that USC is off probation, but you're going to have to actually win something before you guys get all puffed up again.

Oregon's James denies report he is going pro

More to it then James will say. I think he knows that the NCAA will be coming down with the hammer soon on the recruiting violations. Won't be a bowl game or NC game to play in next year so why risk the injury for individual reward?  Time for him to take the money and run, after all the life of a RB is very short. Heck he missed games this year because of a little elbow injury and if he gets hurt next year, his draft position would fall like a  ton of bricks.  And he will not be a impact player in the NFL, that Oregon offensive would never work in the NFL. Players are too big and fast on the D side. Smart move to leave James, I applaud you and the fact that you are denying it at this time. Why take all the attention away from a team that is about to lose it's fourth straight BCS game. Well wait, maybe you should distract the media to lighten the sting of another big game loss.

Oregon's James denies report he is going pro

I hope James doesn" go pro. He has no idea, as he  gets older how much these dys of being a college football star will mean to him. He'sone of those guys, thart in college he is faster than most any one else, is in the perfect system for him , so he excells. In the NFL they will catch him and in the end he will get hurt.
