There hasn't exactly been a lot of good news about the Penn State football program in recent months, and the program got a bit more on Saturday. There are multiple reports coming out of State College that quarterback Matt McGloin got into a fight with receiver Curtis Drake following practice on Saturday. A fight that ended with McGloin being knocked out cold.

The details of what happened or what caused the fight are still sketchy at this point, but apparently there was a heated exchange during practice, and when Drake approached McGloin in the locker room after practice, things went downhill. Police were called to the scene to investigate afterward.

Making things even scarier, McGloin's father told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that his son suffered a seizure and a possible concussion. McGloin was treated at Mount Nittany Medical Center and has since returned home.

Penn State is scheduled to play Houston in the Ticketcity Bowl on January 2nd.

Here's the official statement released by Penn State, in full:

Penn State Police were called to the football locker room this afternoon to investigate a report of a fight between two members of the Nittany Lions football team -- Matt McGloin and Curtis Drake -- after they finished practice.

McGloin was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center where he was examined, treated and released.

Campus police and Penn State's Office of Judicial Affairs will investigate the incident and report results as they would for any other student involved in an incident on campus.

Penn State will be the home of slimeballs forever and die as an institution.

Keep the molesters in your showers and protect those who do not belong in our gene pool.

You will be bounced from the NCAA forever and blacklisted for eternity.

At Florida Urban Crier would get mad as hell when a kid he counted on went to FSU.  Once Tebow left and he had HIS recruitsin place, and only his recruits hr couldn't coach them.  He kept at Brantly like he was a running QB.  Google his post game interview his last game at FSU.  You'll see Urban Crier.  You'll hear the war chant.

What's the next bit of cheerful news that comes out of Happy Valley? Perhaps a burglary ring being busted! Drug arrests? Academic scandal? Penn State has it all! I'm sure that huddle is going to be quite pleasant with these 2 dudes.

Penn State is about to become the ol bottom dweller of the Big Ten. Im not sure this program will recover in my lifetime.

I'm wondering if maybe McGloin was acting as absurdly cocky in the locker room as he does on the field and on the sideline and Drake finally had enough.  If the report is accurate the Drake tried to make amends for whatever happened on the practice field and McGloin shoved and/or punched him then I can't say I feel sorry for the kid.

It's reminiscent of the "knock out" punch he got during the Ohio State game a couple years ago.  McGloin drives PSU down the field a couple of times, racks up 140 some yards and two tds in the first half.  And then starts jawing at the OSU bench.  Second half he passes for a total of 18 yards and tosses two interceptions and acts like a spoiled punk ass kid on the sidelines.  Which is how he acts most of the time.

Too bad.  If PSU played with that much passion against opponents, they might have gone undefeated this year.  It's good for them in a way, though.  Maybe some of the players on the team still give a bleep.  The "troubles" at PSU aren't their fault, and maybe this is a sign that they have stopped feeling sorry for themselves and are going to play football again.
As for their future, Urban Meyer will do some of the most prolific negative recruiting that has ever been done in the Big Ten.  Just like Tom Izzo used the Ed Martin scandal at Michigan to build a team that went to a lot of Final Fours and even managed to close one out, Meyer will attempt to use the victims at PSU to further his recruiting agenda.

PSU's only chance to compete is to totally clean house and scapegoat everyone who was associated with the program.  I am guessing that the next coach at PSU won't finish his five year contract, and it will be six years or so until PSU digs its way out.  You never know, though; they might get a coach who can work around the extracirricular distractions.
I just hope they can find a way to make Urban Meyer work hard enough that he quits on yet another team.

Penn St. is done. It's going to be long time before a factor again. SAD.
