Even in the dead period for college football recruiting, new head coach Kevin Sumlin has reportedly landed his first five-star at Texas A&M.

Oklahoma freshman running back Brandon Williams has decided to transfer to Texas A&M, according to reports from GigEm247 and the Dallas Morning News. Williams, a native of Brookshire, was on Texas A&M's campus Saturday and has decided to leave the Sooners in order to be closer to home.

Williams is expected to apply for a hardship waiver that will allow him to suit up for the Aggies immediately, but could see that request denied after seeing action in eight games for the Sooners in 2011. If Williams is not granted the waiver, he will sit out the 2012 season and have three years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2013.

Williams totaled 219 yards on 46 carries this season, with his strongest performance being an 80 yard outing against Iowa State on Nov. 26. He was a five-star recruit coming out of high school, where he ran for 2,438 yards and 33 touchdowns in his senior season at Brookshire Royal.

For Sumlin, Williams' arrival comes at the perfect time with Christine Michael graduating after the 2012 season and two-time 1,000 yard rusher Cyrus Gray possibly wrapping up his season in the bowl game against Northwestern - if he is able to play with the stress fracture in his shoulder. With Texas A&M's move to the hyper-competitive SEC West, Aggie fans know they will need more of the steady ground attack they have become accustomed to in order to avoid a rocky transition.

Report: Oklahoma RB transferring to Texas A&M

Its not about OU, TX, but about Big 12.  Mizzou and A&M was smart to get ahead of the curve to get into a viable conference that is making money.  For about a year we heard the rumors of TX-TxTech and OU-Okst sticking together and heading to another conference.  Why wouldnt A&M go ahead and decide to do whats best for their program instead of piggy-backing on a conference in jeopardy of start afloat!

Report: Oklahoma RB transferring to Texas A&M

This one player moving to A&M does not a team make.  A&M may come around in a couple of years?  Obviously, you haven't performed your due diligence on the University of Arkansas.  Ever since they moved from the old SWC to the SEC, they've had very limited success.  Further, it really doesn't help with recruiting because now decent players will be choosing between UT, OU, LSU, Alabama, and Auburn, follwed by Georgia, Arkansas, and Tennessee.  If they get rejected by all of those schools, you may have a fighting chance with Vandy to compete for the leftovers.

Wanna know the secret to having successful football team?  WIN GAMES!  Oh, yeah, it doesn't hurt to have someone win a Heisman Trophy either.  You may have beaten Baylor, but you lost a lot of critical games this year including Arkansas and to your old rival that is no more, The University of Texas.

Koufax32,
Just wandering.... Ever heard of Gerald McCoy?  He's a recent top draft pick from OU.  Just curious, please name a recent high profile SEC D-lineman in the NFL that did not play for LSU, Alabama, Florida?  Better yet, please detail the list of the lineman that Tennessee, Old Miss, Mississippi State, etc. landed into the SEC from the outreached hands of Texas and OU.  Do you watch recruiting boards?

A&M is getting paid.  Plain and simple.

I really don't see the model that suggests movement to the SEC as a key to success.  Texas A&M has not had problems recruiting.  Even with RC Slocum, they had many quality (read: Top 10 National) recruiting classes.  They've had problems competing with OU and Texas.  I'm not for sure transitioning to a schedule including LSU and Alabama remedies this.  It could be argued that the SEC is softer in the middle right now, but that is likely to evolve year to year.  Fact of the matter, as Arkansas has repeatedly learned, is that when a team finishes consistently in the second tier of a conference, recruiting is not a solution but an excuse.
As an avid OU fan, I can honestly say that, excluding the band, we'll hardly miss ya!

I beating down by the coast may feel better because of the weather and the food, but it is still a beating!

This is not the reason but, A&M should recruit better now. They should win more games, they shoulda, coulda, woulda. A&M has had no reason to not be a top 25 team year in year out. Yet they just never live up to what they should be. It has been such a waste and I can only hope they show a little Texas pride as they move to the SEC. Arkansas has not set the bar to high for teams coming from the old SW conference. I grew up loving the Wrecking Crew and I hope they find some success.

A&M will take their lumps for a few years. But I really believe that they will start to steal Texas recruits from TX and OK. What D-lineman would not want to go to the SEC. Any defensive player really. They will get noticed there. No one talks about those great Big 12 defenses.

Sooner Thunder,
Are you hoping the SEC tears a part A&M like Baylor and Texas Tech did to Boomer Sooner this year?

This one player does not justify a move to the SEC, and I don't believe A&M is looking to be justified.  You can sit there like a moron and belittle a player for moving to another team, but he is still a 5 star recruit, and obviously OU wanted him, hence recruiting him in the first place. If A&M was sitting in the big 12 we probably would not have gained this player, or the many more to follow in the years to come.  If you can tell me that moving to the SEC wont help A&M in recruiting against OU and Texas then your probably too ingnorant to be in a conversation with in the first place.  You can all enjoy A&M getting beat down in the SEC which will probably happen for a couple of years, but A&M will come around...

clear as mud?  waiting patiently to hear the significance to one back up to the back up player transferring justifies a move to the SEC?
