Don't have a rooting interest in Wednesday night's Poinsettia Bowl matchup between TCU and Louisiana Tech? With all due respect to the Horned Frogs, you might now.

Two Louisiana Tech players took the opportunity during Monday's Poinsettia Bowl community service event with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to donate their bowl gifts to kids involved with the foundation. Senior linebacker Adrien Cole and junior wide receiver Quinton Patton each gave away their $300 Best Buy gift card, with Cole also donating his Tourneau Poinsettia Bowl watch.

"They're just material things," Cole said. "They need it more than I do." (Watch Cole [pictured] speak with a Louisiana Tech All-Access reporter and the boy who received his watch in a CBSports.com ULive video here.)

"It was eye-opening," Patton said of the Make-A-Wish event in a CBSSports.com video interview. "You can't take anything for granted.

"I just did it, just out of the blue" he said of his decision to donate his bowl gift. "It's all smiles. He's happy, I'm happy, so it really doesn't matter ."

A bowl representative told TV station KSLA that he believed this was the first time a player had made such a donation at the Poinsettia Bowl.

Nice to see a positive story about college athletes once in awhile. Some of these guys come from money and some come from none. I don't blame any athlete for keeping their gift for themselves, but this was a refreshing change of pace. I'd love to see this kind of trend continue during bowl season versus the annual "who can't play because they got suspended" merry-go-round.

Great story.  I have never heard of another player doing this.

Knowing the NCAA, I am sure they will find some rule violation that has occured by doing this.

Suprised to see this story reported. Nothing negative about it, that usually doesn't make it newsworthy. Thank you to these two young gentlemen for their act of kindness and to Jerry Hinnen for reporting. Disturbing to heear the bowl rep say that he believes this is the first time a player has made such a donation. Casts a very self entitled view of college football players. Though it may have been done before but just not reported for the above reasons.

Incredible story!  God Bless the youngsters and God Bless both Adrien Cole and Quinton Patton for this very, very thoughtful gesture!  Nothing againsts TCU, but this Michigan fan will be cheering for Louisiana Tech tonight!

It would be nice if Adrien Cole and Quinton Patton could be the trendsetters for other players to do this.  I will not think any different if other players do not, but this was a pretty cool story.  Great Job guys.

Good to see a story about players thinking about others and make a donation to help those in need. My hats off to Adrien Cole and Quinton Patton ! May others follow their lead not just in this game but the other bowl games also.

I'd put that $300 gift card to good use.

I think this is great for them and make a wish.  Now we just need teams like Bama, LSU, and all other BCS bowl schools to do the same.   2 years ago Texas and Bama players recieved $1000 gift cards.  Not a single player donated anything. I'm suprised Tebow wasn't the first to do this while at Florida.
