Well, you can't blame Penn State for trying, can you?

The Nittany Lions are conducting what by their own admission has a been a "deliberate and measured" search for Joe Paterno's replacement and are the final FBS team to fill their 2011 head coaching vacancy. But any complaints would have been quickly silenced if they could become the program that finally pries away Chris Petersen from Boise State. It's no surprise a Penn St. official reportedly visited Idaho twice last week in an effort to make the program's pitch to Petersen.

But like every other previous suitor for the Bronco coach's services, that pitch has fallen on deaf ears--if it was ever even heard in the first place. The Patriot-News's David Jones has reported that Petersen "has made it known he is not interested in Penn State's vacant head coaching position."

Jones writes that the decision is "no shocker," and surely it isn't; after he turned down all manner of high-profile jobs the previous several offseasons (including UCLA earlier this month), convincing Petersen to take a scandal-plagued position that several lesser coaches have already shied away from was always the longest of long shots.

But given the position Penn State finds itself in -- no coach and not even any real leads on one, with Signing Day rapidly approaching and the fanbase growing more nervous by the day -- Petersen was the kind of prize that was worth taking that shot anyway. The only criticism to be made is if that shot came out of desperation, and with it having failed, the search is poised to go on for several more days ... or even weeks.

First off nobody wants this Pedifile State University job. Funny how all the little Penn State fans where telling everyone that they will hire a big name coach well where is it fools. Like ESPN have said that Penn State can't pay a top name coach like Ohio State, USC, Alabama can or even lowly schools can. To Chris Peterson he knows he can get a better job then run down Penn State & the other thing is that he probably knows that he is not ready to compete with the big boys in the big conferences yet or every & that is a fact in why he never left the small school of Boise State yet.

Are you a NFL scout?
Last I heard BSU played College not the NFL.  Why do you bring up the NFL.  Maybe Moore makes it in the NFL maybe he never sees a snap.  I do recall that great LSU QB JaMarcus Russell had a steller NFL career.  If Tebow never plays another game he will have had a better career than the experts thought.  So until The SEC invites BSU all we can do is talk trash back and forth.  It all means nothing  (except with our buddies after we have had a couple of beers).

I look forward for another 8 months of trash talking back and forth.

LOVIN MSU.   stupid,   go to bed.  its late.    oh  i guess TCU is better and better coached since they won over boise st..   peterson kept that idiot kicker on the roster and he screwed him again this year.   if you can't beat TCU AND NEVADA (LAST YEAR)  then you can't beat bama and lsu.   i am a big ten fan fullly AND i live in knoxville, but i can tell you  LSU AND BAMA are the 2 best teams,  and maybe oklahoma state as well.    boise state,   not quite pal.   hey good luck next year with an easier schedule.   lets see peterson do it again without kellen moore,   who i might add will be a average at best quarterback,  maybe even in the CFL.  see ya

Penn State really needs to consider someone who is not currently on the coaching staff and could be linked to this scandal but is a former player and has a real love for Penn State.

oschooo   go to bed.   you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.   his kid  (jay paterno )  did not even know.    did you go to PITT or what.   son,  please let the facts out first.   a lot will come out and you will be surprised by it.    did sandusky do all this,  yes no doubt.   some of these kids could not make this up.   do i think there are others who are lying,  absolutely.   some people think they can get 10 million will say anything,   until of course the defendants  AND INSURANCE COMPANIES have them take a lie detector test which can be evidence in pennsylvania for civil suits.   there are some viable kids out there and i hope penn state takes care of them,  but there are also liars as well.  sandusky will get his sentence soon.   i was a fan of his until he retired  but no more.   put him in jail.
as far as you on these blogs,  get real   some of this is fabrication.

Very good points especially about filling the shoes of a living legend such as coach Joe. A tall order with fingers appointing if you fail to win the majority of your games in the first couple of years while you are installing your defensive an offensive system as well as recruiting players to play in your system.

Stop drinking the sec kool aid, that stuff will cause brain damaged. It is probably too late for you at this stage of your life. Boise would do well in the sec. The sec have about 3 elite teams 4-5 good teams and 5-6 bottom feeders. But then most conferences are made up about the same.

Our elite teams in the PAC-12 would compete very well with the elite teams of the sec. Your bottom feeders in the sec would not become world-beaters in other conferences.

Boise  has beaten top 1-10 teams in the past, some were in bowl games where each team has approximately 3-4 weeks to prepare both defensively and offensively. Boise State would compete in  the sec and not be a bottom feeder.

Why would the coach at Boise have to leave a  job that he is pleased with where he is. If you like your current position why would change it for a place where you might not be as happy.

There are other considerations to consider when making a decision about a job  change. You have to take into consideration your family with your wife’s input, children schooling, and perhaps ailing parents.   This is not just a decision as to, I like the job, so everyone in the family pack your crap we have to be at PSU by Friday.

PSU might consider a pro or college offensive or defensive coordinator, perhaps a coach that is no longer coaching and want to prove himself with a different program and setting. There are some very good ones that would jump at this opportunity. This might be a opportunity for PSU to step up and hire a minority coach.

A hiring of this type might take some of the negative media attention away from the program. There are several former minority and current offensive and defensive coordinators and head coaches that might want to have this opportunity.

Hahahaha I like how the Bozo St fans and their California rejects think they can establish a real program without bringing anything to the table.  You homos were doing fine running an insurgent operation, with an occasional big kill.  Having to do it week in/week out is an entirely different animal.  Your field is a joke, you have no fan base, and Idaho (nuff said).  It's about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ chumps, don't forget.
