Well, you can't blame Penn State for trying, can you?

The Nittany Lions are conducting what by their own admission has a been a "deliberate and measured" search for Joe Paterno's replacement and are the final FBS team to fill their 2011 head coaching vacancy. But any complaints would have been quickly silenced if they could become the program that finally pries away Chris Petersen from Boise State. It's no surprise a Penn St. official reportedly visited Idaho twice last week in an effort to make the program's pitch to Petersen.

But like every other previous suitor for the Bronco coach's services, that pitch has fallen on deaf ears--if it was ever even heard in the first place. The Patriot-News's David Jones has reported that Petersen "has made it known he is not interested in Penn State's vacant head coaching position."

Jones writes that the decision is "no shocker," and surely it isn't; after he turned down all manner of high-profile jobs the previous several offseasons (including UCLA earlier this month), convincing Petersen to take a scandal-plagued position that several lesser coaches have already shied away from was always the longest of long shots.

But given the position Penn State finds itself in -- no coach and not even any real leads on one, with Signing Day rapidly approaching and the fanbase growing more nervous by the day -- Petersen was the kind of prize that was worth taking that shot anyway. The only criticism to be made is if that shot came out of desperation, and with it having failed, the search is poised to go on for several more days ... or even weeks.

This clown isn't about to leave the small pond to go anywhere. Otherwise he would be exposed as Dan Hawkins Part Deux. Now that TCU is off the schedule, Boise can chalk up another annual win against a nondescript opponent with no pulse.

AAAhhhhhhh, you forgot the Board of Directors, who is the BIGGEST scam artists in the entire situation.  They are in charge of everyone and have tried to come off as a victim in all this - - LAUGHABLE - - They should have fired themselves.

You have no idea what you are talking about. You can have an opinion, but it is based on zero fact and most likely misinformation.

Dave Jones may be the WORST source of information regarding Penn State football. Not saying Peterson is a viable option, but using Jones as a "source" is not a smart move. I'd be interested to know who his "source" is because I'd bet you it's no one who would have any idea about the Penn State hiring situation.

Nobody will take the PENN STATE job until the ALL the court actions are completed.  I have said it before, EVERYONE that was in a leadership position at Penn State knew about the abuse and ALL need replaced; coaches, AD department, Vice President's, President.  Penn State is going to pay a terrible price for their silence.

Boise did not DOMINATE Oklahoma or VaTech. They beat them, but by no means was it domination. As I recall it took some tricky play calls in the final drive to beat Oklahoma. Georgia, I'll give you. Oregon, not quite; Boise won an ugly game that ended with a TKO by Oregon.

All of those knocking Boise State . . . get a clue.  I'm a Cal Bear fan and the last team I'd want to see the Bears take on before the conference starts is Boise State.  Your major conference team wins (ha ha) and all you hear about is that it only proves Boise isn't great.  Your major conference team loses (and you would) and all you hear about is how crappy you are.  Boise is good because there's a lot of talent out there and that damn coach can COACH. YellLet's face it--we're all jealous.

BigDaddyQH dont forget Boise has dominated programs like GEORGIA, OREGON, OKLAHOMA, VIRGINIA TECH.

I dont give a crap what anyone says Boise with 1 month to prepare can play with anyone in the country and I honestly believe they could easily beat LSU or Alabama who played nobody this year.  LSU beat Bama who played Nobody.  They beat Georgia who played nobody.  They beat Arkansas who played nobody.

Petersen is head and shoulders above all other coaches in college football and I am a huge fan of Steve Spurrier, but right now Pteresen is the best.  No competition.
