No split title, Alabama No. 1 in AP Poll

If you had been wondering whether or not the AP Poll would recognize Alabama as this year's national champion or make a statement by keeping LSU ranked at No. 1, well, the answer is right up there for you.

Alabama is on top with LSU right behind them with Oklahoma State, Oregon and Arkansas rounding out the top five.

Also, what's really interesting about the poll aside from Alabama being on top is that Alabama got every first place vote but five. Of those five ballots that didn't put Alabama at the top, only one listed LSU. The other four had Oklahoma State.

The one voter who kept LSU at the top spot was Erik Gee, from KNML in Albuquerque, N.M.. Gee told's Dennis Dodd in December that it would take "like a 63-0 pasting" by Alabama for the 39-year old radio host to change his vote after the BCS National Championship Game. He believes LSU won the right to the top spot with their performance prior to Monday's 21-0 loss to Alabama, and his final AP Poll vote reflected his firm stance on the issue.

Check out the final AP Poll of the 2011 season below:

1. Alabama (55)
2. LSU (1)
3. Oklahoma State (4)
4. Oregon
5. Arkansas
6. USC

11. Michigan State
12. Michigan
13. Baylor

18. Houston
19. Georgia
20. Southern Miss

There will be no split title this year

Honestly, LSU didn't look like they belonged in the National Championship game.  They were beat in EVERY facet of the game.  And all I saw last night were two inept offenses struggling against above average defenses.  Look at their records, EVERY other BCS team that played against Alabama and LSU scored AT LEAST one touchdown.  Compared to the other BCS bowls this year, the National Championship was boring.  Every SEC fan needs to ask themselves what you would you be writing right now if it had been Alabama and (Insert name of any other Non-SEC BCS team).  You would be saying how the SEC is so dominant and that the other team had no business beiing on the same field as Alabama.  Just sayin.

LSU may not have looked like the #2 team last night, but they certainly EARNED that ranking for the year.  Especially above OK State.  LSU beat 3 teams in the top 10 (Bama, Oregon & WV).  LSU's only loss came to the #1 team in the country.  How many top 10 teams did OK State beat?  Hmmm.  And did OK State's loss come against a top team or a powerhouse?  They lost to an Iowa State team that got boat-raced by half the teams they played.

Be bitter all you want.  But your point just can't be supported.  OK State had a good year.  And if there was a playoff - I would love to seem them get a shot.  And yes - LSU looked really bad last night.  Almost as bad as OK State looked the first 3 quarters at Iowa State.

This explains why all awards should be handed out AFTER all games are played ... Miles Coach of the Year?  Basically a home game and LSU can't score a single point after 40+ days to prepare?

Sorry, that is NOT good coaching.

I do agree that the BCS is a very problematic system, and I've wished for full BCS armageddon every year since its inception. It is no better than the system that preceeded it, but the major difference in that was in conference alignment with bowls, the number one goal for those conference teams each year was to go to that bowl....then if possible, win the national championship. I think it's hurt the whole landscape of the sport with the evolution to the mindset that one loss may cost you a season and everything that's important about it. I know that's the mentality of anyone pulling for Texas, Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, etc. NCAA football is the only sport I can think of that doesn't decide its champion through some sort of a bracketed playoff system. That's a problem. Also, you really have to have a GIANT pair of purple colored spectacles to not see that Alabama was clearly the better team and should have won the first game as well. They had more scoring chances and moved the ball much easier than LSU. A tie goes to the runner, and to the receiver...and missed FG have consequences. Schedule talk and comparitive results go out the door when you're talking head-to-head competition, and it was very clear. No one was going to score a lot of points on Alabama last night. Weiden, Luck...they can't throw from the ground. Unfortunately, the BCS found the best team again.

@ ODUFan49: Having watched the game last night I was extremely impressed with Alabama and there is no doubt that they are the best team in the country. What an incredible defense they have. I usualy don't like watching low scoring football games, or 1-0 baseball games, but watching Alabama's defense dominate L.S.U. was truly impressive. However, to all those who say that you win championships with defense, I must state that I understand what you are trying to say, but you miss one very important point: you win championships by scoring more points than the other team. Having a great defense is part of that formula, but only part of that formula. ODUFan49 had it right when he said defense was half the game. HALF the game. You don't win championships with half the game. You win them with both halves. Alabama finally put both halves together last night.

I also think the current system needs to be replaced with a playoff system and let the issue be settled on the field. I don't think my beloved Cowboys could have beaten Alabama after watching them last night, but then we will never know for sure because that matchup was never allowed due to voters showing conference preferences. (ie: Saban voting OSU down just far enough to ensure an SEC matchup in the NC game). Go to a playoff and stop this! Let it be determined on the field where it belongs!
