No split title, Alabama No. 1 in AP Poll

If you had been wondering whether or not the AP Poll would recognize Alabama as this year's national champion or make a statement by keeping LSU ranked at No. 1, well, the answer is right up there for you.

Alabama is on top with LSU right behind them with Oklahoma State, Oregon and Arkansas rounding out the top five.

Also, what's really interesting about the poll aside from Alabama being on top is that Alabama got every first place vote but five. Of those five ballots that didn't put Alabama at the top, only one listed LSU. The other four had Oklahoma State.

The one voter who kept LSU at the top spot was Erik Gee, from KNML in Albuquerque, N.M.. Gee told's Dennis Dodd in December that it would take "like a 63-0 pasting" by Alabama for the 39-year old radio host to change his vote after the BCS National Championship Game. He believes LSU won the right to the top spot with their performance prior to Monday's 21-0 loss to Alabama, and his final AP Poll vote reflected his firm stance on the issue.

Check out the final AP Poll of the 2011 season below:

1. Alabama (55)
2. LSU (1)
3. Oklahoma State (4)
4. Oregon
5. Arkansas
6. USC

There will be no split title this year

LSU was completely embarrassed and the coaching staff should be ashamed of themselves.  With over 5 full weeks to prepare for the Fictional National Championship, and a chance to silence the BCS critics, they came up empty on offense.  They showed a total lack of creativity, along with any ability whatsoever to adapt to game situations.  They failed to even make required adjustments or changes even after halftime when they were still very much in the game.  And to top it all off, they should have been very familiar with their in-conference foe, Alabama.  Obviously, their offense was ill-prepared.  How anyone can possibly award LSU the #2 spot in the final season poll with only 5 first downs and 92 yards of total offense in the most critical game of the year is beyond me.  Yes, Alabama's defense was absolutely steller, but LSU's offense was downright pathetic.  The BCS mirrors our Congress in that they are more interested in protecting their own self interests, using average people to make money for themselves and their friends.  Understand that the current BCS bowl farce is all about the money and maintaining the status quo.  The average college football fan is begging for a playoff!!  However, before that can be accomplished, the BCS needs to be exposed for what it really is, and abolished.

Refreshing to see some REAL football

Not an SEC guy---but that D brought back some great memories of what real football is like. Hopefully. all thjose schools that try to put up 60 a game--while giving up 70--have taken notice. YOU WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS WITH DEFENSE!!!!!!

I'm not a big fan of the SEC and have generally thougth they put athletics above eduacation and therefore had a slanted playing field.  However, being a die-hard fan of a mediocre Big-Ten foofball team and watching the crap that went on at Ohio State I won't judge the SEC ever again.  With that said, I watched both the games this year and game one could have gone either way.  Bama lost but if a 260 lb tight end holds on to a ball at the goal line we would possible watched BAMA- OSU compete for the national championship.

LSU's defense is awfully good.   #2 in most categories to Bama.  Neither offense is great, but when you play D like that 20 points a game wiill get you 10 wins every year.   LSU made a mistake by not pulling Jefferson.  He was off from the outset and some of those sacks were not poor offensive line play or coverage sacks, they were due to a quarterback who was not able to read defenses or see anyone but his primary receiver and on some replays you could see he had guys open or breaking open and he did not throw the ball.  Almost like it was his first start.  Too bad he laid such an egg and too bad the coach sat by and watched it unfold and made zero adjustments.
;  That loss was on the QB and Coach.

Bama the national champ, what a joke, they didn't win their own conference, you shouldn't be allowed to the National Champ if you didn't win your own conference.  They should have a playoff for the teams ranked 1-4 and then get a champion that way, it would be better than what we have now.

Next year, GO BLUE!

This proves nothing...

What a horrible game. No doubt Oklahoma State coult beat Bama. But without a playoff system you cannot say I am wrong.

'Bama 1, Ok St 2, LSU 3, OR 4, Ark 5 is how it should be.  LSU did absolutely nothing to earn the #2 spot last night.  They were dominated, out of sync and did not even make it past the 50 yard line until their second to last possession.  Ok St would have been a better match for the Crimson Tide (although that was not possible).  Going 13-1 deserves respect, but Ok St won their bowl game and only had 1 loss on the season.  LSU did not even show up for the BCS Title game.

Read Everythingis22's comment.  Good stuff! Except it still needs to be decided on the field with EVERYONE given a chance.  ESPN=BCS+BS
