No split title, Alabama No. 1 in AP Poll

If you had been wondering whether or not the AP Poll would recognize Alabama as this year's national champion or make a statement by keeping LSU ranked at No. 1, well, the answer is right up there for you.

Alabama is on top with LSU right behind them with Oklahoma State, Oregon and Arkansas rounding out the top five.

Also, what's really interesting about the poll aside from Alabama being on top is that Alabama got every first place vote but five. Of those five ballots that didn't put Alabama at the top, only one listed LSU. The other four had Oklahoma State.

The one voter who kept LSU at the top spot was Erik Gee, from KNML in Albuquerque, N.M.. Gee told's Dennis Dodd in December that it would take "like a 63-0 pasting" by Alabama for the 39-year old radio host to change his vote after the BCS National Championship Game. He believes LSU won the right to the top spot with their performance prior to Monday's 21-0 loss to Alabama, and his final AP Poll vote reflected his firm stance on the issue.

Check out the final AP Poll of the 2011 season below:

1. Alabama (55)
2. LSU (1)
3. Oklahoma State (4)
4. Oregon
5. Arkansas
6. USC
7. Stanford
8. Boise State
9. South Carolina
10. Wisconsin
11. Michigan State
12. Michigan
13. Baylor
14. TCU
15. Kansas State
16. Oklahoma
17. West Virginia
18. Houston
19. Georgia
20. Southern Miss
21. Virginia Tech
22. Clemson
23. Florida State
24. Nebraska
25. Cincinnati

There will be no split title this year

Bama was without a doubt the most dominant team last night. What's sad is that the BCS is meeting today to discuss (much needed) changes to the BCS system while "maintaining the integrity of the regular season". IE: the regular season still matters.
if you look at each school's schedule i would say that LSU had a better season with more quality wins. Bama beat only 2 ranked teams dur the regular season. A very good Arkansas and a very suspect Penn State. LSU beat Oregon, WV, Auburn (when they were still ranked and playing well), Alabama, Arkansas and Georgia when Georgia was on a roll. Yet, Bama is crowned b/c of one dominate game. Tough to say they are better than LSU when they lost to LSU at home and LSU's resume' verifies they aren't as bad as they looked last night. In other words: the regular season meant squat to the voters who all voted while their emotions were still very high after watching the game.
LSU has the top QB coming there next year (from Columbus, IN) and the last time they won the Natl title they had another Indiana QB at the helm (Jasper, IN). LSU will finally have a QB that didn't look like he was a walk-on. They do recruit QB's in the SEC???

Okay fans. In reading all of these posts I think we can all agree that Bama's defense is incredible. So good they may have been able to stop Stanford or Okl St. but we don't know that unless the game is played!!!!! Again, 83% of "opinions" (opinions run college football) were for the Steelers but Denver won! Watch ESPN with an open mind and count how often eastern teams get the spotlight!! Football? Jets, Giants and the SEC. Baseball? Yankees, Boston and Philly. All I want is a championship decided on the field regardless of their geographic location. May the best team, not the one with the largest following, be given a chance to win it all on the field.

Man I so much agree with BCS_SHAM, though I call it a Scam. How can anybody who loves college football not see it? It doesn't matter what team you follow, eventually the BCS will screw you out of a change to win the national championship. Look at the articles today and how often the word "Split" is used. What other sport, after the championship game/match and a team/person wins the championship, is the word "split" used? We need to unite and stop this sham....and/or scam. If opionion polls (BCS)  ran pro football, Denver never would have played the Steelers for Pitt would have been given the right to face NE next week.

I see this brought the whiny bitches out. Alabama is #1, end of story. I know some of you couldn't handle seeing a defensive game in November and had to take your blanket and your bottle and go to bed early, but Bama was awful close to winning that game and won this one handedly. I don't want to see one mention of Oklahoma State needing to even have a whiff of a title. Losing to the Whirlwinds while Bama and LSU lost to eachother automatically disqulaifies you from discussion.

It is a SPIT title

Actually it is a spit title. That's exactly what the mythical national championship is worth this year, a warm bucket of spit. Same as the vice-president's office. It amounts to nothing except a lot of posturing with no reality behind it.  Play offs PLEASE. It's time to end the Toll Ride. First time ever, I watched nary a second of the BCS SHAM. Followed the score and comments on but that was it, and you know what, I missed nothing absolutely nothing. END THE SHAM.

I thought it was a great game, at least from the perspective of Alabama or possibly LSU's defense.  But LSU offensively was abysmal.  And really, Bama's offense was better. but not at all times.  They won b/c they had got a lot of short drives that put them in field goal range, while LSU couldn't even put together short drives.

My favorite stat of the year (full disclosure: I'm a PSU fan): Penn State scored more on Alabama in one game than LSU did in two.  LSU definitely doesn't have a championship caliber offense...
