According to a Patriot-News report, a week before former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky's arrest following a grand jury investigation into his alleged sexual assault of young boys, he watched Penn State beat Illinois for Joe Paterno's 409th career victory from the president's box at Beaver Stadium. A source told the Patriot-News said that Sandusky was seen in the box during the game and then he was later seen in the Nittany Lion Club.

Former Penn State linebacker Brandon Short also said on Wednesday that he was told by two independent sources that Sandusky had been in the president's box for the game that day as well.

Penn State president Rodney Erickson told national radio host Michael Smerconish that the report was "absolutely false," according to Smerconish, but one Penn State alum reported being in the Nittanly Lion Club with Sandusky for the Purdue game two weeks prior, and said he was under the impression that Sandusky "was always there."

Penn State spokesman Bill Mahon told the paper that a search through the guest list of every game of the last three seasons shows that Sandusky had never been invited to the box. However the report goes on to say that then athletic director Tim Curley -- who resigned following the grand jury indictment -- didn't want to give Sandusky tickets to the game but changed his mind at the insistence of Sandusky's wife, Dottie.

Penn State officials were aware of the investigation into Sandusky long before Penn State's game against Illinois that day.

Jerry Sandusky saw win 409 for Paterno

Come on FantasyMan! "incompendent?" Really bro? There is no "pen" in the word you were so eloquently trying to use. Perhaps incompetent was what you were searching for. Either that or you find the need to use PEN in every sentence to remind yourself who you are. Remember; just keep holding hands with the others and continue to chant the phrase, "We are Penn State. We are Penn State. We are Penn State." Saying it enough times over and over will all make this whole story simply go away. It's the 21st century version of Dorothy of Wizard of OZ fame repeating the classic line, "There's no place like home. There's no place like home," to assist her return to Kansas.

Jerry Sandusky saw win 409 for Paterno

No one person is bigger than an organization. Not even the legendary Paterno was bigger a few days after this story blew up. So why was the administration so concerned with a defensive coordinator from a decade ago? If they did hide facts to protect him, why? What made them continue to associate with him and allow him on the facility? We may never know

wow, Dottie holds sway! Truly pathetic...the more that seeps out under the closed doors looks more and more like serious crimes have been committed and PSU is party to coverups and shows a total disregard for the lives of the victims, children for god's sake. What a warren of rats...I hope they all pay dearly for this ugliest of crimes....this isn't some booster layin' a little cash on some needy starters...that's an NC2A thing. Child rape is against state law, national law, international law, god's law....why are these people still walking around?...they should be awaiting charges in a cold cell, all of them!

...and what's the discussion???...did we get the right coach to pick up the pieces....shameful. I'll never look at PSU the same way ever again...their loss!

Hey Grabes."Total witch hunt?" Come on bro; you can't be that stupid. I know you were unable to understand the Grand Jury report, but I'll just let you know that if any of that sickening 21 pages was accurate, your boy Jerr is going bye-bye for a long, long time.

Far too much has been written about this scandal and far too little has been done by school officials to preclude such an outrage occurring again.  Everyone on the Board of Trustees had to know the circumstances and the cover up initiated by Sandusky, Paterno, etc. Yet, none of them voiced concern about the stench that was forthcoming. Since, PSU is a state school, perhaps the state should intercede and take over the reigns of the lackluster institution until every last knowing individual is escorted off the campus.

Any, and all, who knew about this ongoing felonious activity should be fired, if an employee, or expelled, if a student.  Until, this lack of brain trust, calling the shots heeds this advice they and the school will remain as the pinnacle  of corruption and deceit.

"Penn State apologists; you do know that you are also refering to most of the alleged victims by that too?"

What the hell are you talking about? Maybe I missed something, but i've never seen a statement, comment, or anything else where the victim or his family has said; "Aw! This was OK. Nothing but a big misunderstanding. I like Jerry and would thank him for messing my life and dozens of other lives up forever."

This story is so played out. Total witch hunt. Why does Jim boeheim still have a job?
Be consistent as a journalist or don't write at all. Otherwise you’re just as
bad as the other cover up specialists.
