Oregon's Darron Thomas entering NFL Draft

College football underclassmen have until January 15th to declare themselves eligible for the draft, and we have a rather surprising declaration with only a few hours to go before that deadline hits. Oregon announced on Saturday night that quarterback Darron Thomas has decided to forego his senior season in Eugene and will instead enter the NFL Draft.

“I came to this decision on behalf of myself and my family,” Thomas said in the official release. “I have a dream of playing in the NFL and I’m going to pursue those dreams.

“I would like to thank everyone in Oregon for all their support and I would thank the coaches for all their help, especially Coach (Chip) Kelly. I love my teammates and wish them the best of luck, and am confident they will continue the winning tradition that has been established. Last but not least, I thank all the Oregon fans for their help and support.”

It's a move that was so unexpected that Thomas isn't even listed among CBSSports.com's position rankings at quarterback. Which makes it hard to predict where Thomas would go in the draft, if at all.

Thomas threw for 5,910 yards and 66 touchdowns during his career with the Ducks, all while completing 61.2% of his passes.

'So the only thing he is REALLY passing up on, is a possible run for a championship next year. Which, unless you play for the SEC, the NCAA wont let it happen! But seriously, they have a shot, but how LIKELY is it really?"

Did the NCAA force the Non-SEC teams to roll over in the championship games from 2006 to 2010? Nobody forced the rest of the country to just forget about the defensive side of the ball completely. So stop talking like this year would have been any different from the last 5 just because no other conference got a chance to take down the SEC in the BCS Championship (which by the way is separate from the NCAA)

John, the only thing that embarrasses me is that you claim to be a USC fan. I've stated my position with Nolongerafan, and I have little doubt from reading his past posts he will accept my apology and move on. If I'm wrong sobeit, it won't be the first or last time.

You need to grow up a little sport, because if anyone should be embarrassed it's you.

He didn't state the real reason. He's flunking his classes from what a few of his tutors were saying last week. This is his only choice.

Makes perfect sense actually!

The guy is close to getting his degree, and finishing up at Oregon. His draft stock isnt particulary high and i am pretty sure he isnt going to become a great pocket passer over night, nor is Oregon going to change the offense. So the scouts will be seeing the same stuff from him. So his draft stock wont be going any higher than what it is.

So the only thing he is REALLY passing up on, is a possible run for a championship next year. Which, unless you play for the SEC, the NCAA wont let it happen! But seriously, they have a shot, but how LIKELY is it really?

So instead of prolonging his time at Oregon by taking dumb useless classes, why not test your NFL Stock. If it fails, then get on with his life.
