Oregon's Darron Thomas entering NFL Draft

College football underclassmen have until January 15th to declare themselves eligible for the draft, and we have a rather surprising declaration with only a few hours to go before that deadline hits. Oregon announced on Saturday night that quarterback Darron Thomas has decided to forego his senior season in Eugene and will instead enter the NFL Draft.

“I came to this decision on behalf of myself and my family,” Thomas said in the official release. “I have a dream of playing in the NFL and I’m going to pursue those dreams.

“I would like to thank everyone in Oregon for all their support and I would thank the coaches for all their help, especially Coach (Chip) Kelly. I love my teammates and wish them the best of luck, and am confident they will continue the winning tradition that has been established. Last but not least, I thank all the Oregon fans for their help and support.”

It's a move that was so unexpected that Thomas isn't even listed among CBSSports.com's position rankings at quarterback. Which makes it hard to predict where Thomas would go in the draft, if at all.

Thomas threw for 5,910 yards and 66 touchdowns during his career with the Ducks, all while completing 61.2% of his passes.

Kellen Clemens and AJ Feeley are both doing better than Matt Leinhert -- Sanchaz will be a back up after next season.  Thomas backup was pushing hard for playing time -- most UO fans feel after a few games the UO machine will be on all cylinders and win the PAC yet again.

WOW. That has to hurt Oregon. I know James is going but he would still have DeAnthony(other Black Mamba- Kobe 1st - sorry) as a RB. I'll be honest I never thought of him leaving this year to the NFL.

This will definitely hurt the Ducks chance to be in the BCS NC race. I watch their games as much as possible, but do they have another QB who is ready to take over? I'm just shocked!?! Happy for Thomas, but shocked.

Oregon's Darron Thomas entering NFL Draft

Probably not the smartest move for a school who doesnt put out high caliber Qb's. This guy was mediocre at best already. It would probably be the best thing for him to stay and try to tear it up next year and actually be rated amongst prospects coming out of the college ranks. This makes me wonder if there is something he knows is coming down from the NCAA or something. This is so last second that it doesnt seem right. He probably wont get drafted and will then be stuck in no mans land. Probably end up in the Arena League or something. I dont dislike him but i just dont see this as a smart move on his part. Now what happens to Oregon and their Championship chances next year?
