Chuck Neinas calls Missouri 'selfish'

Big 12 interim commissioner Chuck Neinas called Missouri "selfish" in an interview with the Charleston Gazette while talking about conference realignment and the Big 12's future. According to Neinas, the current lawsuit between West Virginia and the Big East as the school tries to replace Missouri probably wouldn't be happening if not for Missouri.

"The one thing that gets lost is we're in this predicament because the SEC invited Missouri," Neinas told the paper. "But the SEC was willing to play with 13 [rather than 14] next season. We made an offer to Missouri that was financially beneficial to stay for another year. Missouri made the decision not to accept.

"We had a teleconference call with those in the SEC, Big East, ACC, Mountain West and Conference USA. We all agreed we could save money and avoid litigation if all held serve for 2012-13. All agreed. But Missouri made a very selfish decision. It's been very disruptive. Missouri gave us notice in November [of 2011] and it's pretty difficult to move forward then."

Now, while Neinas may have a point and might even be right, I must admit, I find the fact that conferences are calling schools selfish to be a bit funny. After all, it's not as if the conferences are worried about the well being of other conferences while they seek schools to join their own.

I don't think the Big 12 decided to invite West Virginia to replace Missouri because it was in the Big East's best interest.

Speaking of the Big East, Neinas had some comments for them as well.

"The Big East gets on planes and flies all over the country inviting other schools," Neinas said. "But they raise hell when West Virginia wants to come to the Big 12?"

Considering that the Big 12 is still exploring further expansion and another Big East school, Louisville, is a likely target, it's probably safe to say that the Big 12 and Big East won't be sitting at the same table in the conference cafeteria anytime soon.

I hope you get to realize what KU has in value when Texas, Tech, Baylor, OU and OSU get together in 5-6 years and become s regional conference and leaves KU, KSU, and Iowa State out of the loop.  Your team has great vlaue to any conference and I can only hope for the best. I will miss the rivalry in all sports not just basketball and football but calling us stupid for locking in our future is just being petty.  The Pac 12 almost took everything the Big XII had away and that was a situation MU did not want to revisit.  Good luck in the future as KU is making good moves to be among the premiere universities around.  Yes even as a MU fan, I visit KU because of the students and the education as well.

"They're (not "their" or "there") for educated sports fans only.  M-I-Z"

Um, not sure who this is directed at, but it's kind of a douch move to grade someone's post like a 3rd grade teacher.

By the way, I planted corn when I was growing up. I worked my a$$ off if you really want to know. I don't see a correlation between that and intelligence or the ability to post on these boards, for that matter.

"Good riddens"....."tricks are for kids"

"Thanks for giving Kansas City back to KU"

Waaaaay too many MU alums in KC to make this claim. I think my office is about half MU fans, 1/4 KU fans, and a mish-mash for the remaining 1/4.

Positive thinking, though

Misouri fans/administration are so stupid.  Silly rabbit.....tricks are for kids.  The Big 12 offered financial incentives to stay.  They corrected the problems of the Big 12.  There is now equal revenue sharing, distribution between schools.  So I say good riddens.  Go ahead and go get your head bashed in.  You were never good enough in the Big 12 to win anything.  Never a conference title in anything!  You think you will flourish in the SEC?  Have fun.  It sure will be fun to hear of your demise week after week.  Thanks for giving Kansas City back to KU.

Translation: Chuck has not been successful in buying the Big East off, and is looking at fighting with TV about $$$.
My take: I hope that some settlement is reached that works for everyone. We should know soon.

I like Neinas, but let it go already. The decision is done and Mizzou is moving on. The Big 8 days were fun, but with Colorado and Nebraska already gone, the nostalgia is all that's left. Mizzou made a choice. WV made a choice. A&M made a choice. They all were acting in their best interests at the time.

Calling anyone "selfish" in a public forum sounds childish and doesn't represent the leadership that the rest of the schools in the Big 12 are looking for in a commish.  If you want to expand the conference and re-establish its name, go and get two more teams that respresent what you're trying to do. Make a splash with your actions, but leave the hatred of MU to the KU fans where it belongs.

Hey Chuck, call the dude you replaced and see why Missouri was ready to leave.  Big XII only wants what works for the Texas and Oklahoma schools and the rest of the old Big 8 is eventually going to be left at the dock.  Not fair in revenue, not fair in scheduling, not fair in distribution.  I just hiope you are smart enough to not take the interim off of your title.  Missouri may have bailed for their own best interests, but with what Texas, OU and others were trying to do with PAC 12 folks showed us the end was near and we were not going to be part of the long term solution anyway.
