The staff turnover at South Carolina continues.

Safeties coach Jeep Hunter was fired on Friday morning. Hunter learned of the news while in an airport waiting to return from a recruiting trip. According to Hunter, he received a phone call from Steve Spurrier to inform him of the news.

"I just got a phone call from (Spurrier) saying he wanted to go in a different direction," Hunter told The State.

Hunter spent three seasons as an assistant at South Carolina. The 2011 season was his first year on the defensive side of the ball, as he spent the previous two seasons coaching tight ends and was an assistant special teams coordinator.

Hunter is the fifth assistant to leave the South Carolina program this year. Defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson, running backs coach Jay Graham, special teams coach John Butler, and strength coach Craig Fitzgerald have all left the program in recent weeks. All but Fitzgerald have been replaced.

South Carolina's Jeep Hunter fired

They said the same thing about Fl back in the 90s.  Its all about the coaching.  If victories were won strickly by the number of 4 and 5 star recurits then how did SC win 11 games?  I would hardly say FL and Tenn are politely withdrawing from the list of elite teams.  Thats stupid.  They are being out-coached and out recruited by teams like South Carolina.  You have not seen the last of SC.   SC willl be great as long as Spurrier is coacing there.  You are ignorant if you think he is just going to stop out coaching his peers now that he has built a great team.   By the way Ugly has a pansy ass schedule.

"A very nice campus". One should not drink and then write. The SC campus is an ugly, jumble of dirty buildings. The biggest eyesore is that Brice-Williams Football Stadium is not on campus, but is a squeezed into a warehouse district about three miles away. UGGGGHHHH!

Teres Minor...As a Clemson fan it pains me to say that you are wrong....11-2 this year was perhaps, coach of the year material...He had a QB debacle, he lost his prized RB, and had a few other injuries and to finish 11-2 in the SEC is pretty damn good...they were 3 points away from 12-1 mind you...so yes they can improve on it and yes with a very good recruiting class coming in, I believe its top 10....He can improve...USC is missing speed on the outside at WR and they have a Freshman coming in that will fix that...as good as Ashlon is he is not the guy that will open up the offense....Connor will have a year under his belt and will improve on his accuracy...the def line and LBs are great so changing that secondary will only help the defense and may get them by Arkansas...its not far fetched to seem the heading to the SEC chamoinship game next year, not sure who they play but undefeated in not out of the question

again it pains me to say this as a Clemson Tiger fan....

South Carolina's Jeep Hunter fired

As good as South Carolina had been on defense this past season, teams with a good QB and good receivers lit up the USC secondary.  That is probably what happened, plus the new Def. Coordinator probably wanted his own guys on the defensive staff.  With that being said, if coach hunter was fired while recruiting for South Carolina, that's just cold...

The bottom line is that, even with a very nice campus, Spurrier can't recruit enough four and five star players to have a realistic chance of winning the SEC Championship on a regular basis.  Lou Holtz couldn't, either.  It's just part of coaching at South Carolina.  There is no way he is going to improve on 11-2 by changing assistants.

Corso? Is that you? Still preaching?
