For an interim commissioner, Chuck Neinas has seen an awful lot happen in the Big 12 since replacing Dan Beebe. Texas A&M and Missouri announced they'd be leaving the conference, and TCU and West Virginia were both brought on to replace them. Through all of this, Neinas has made it clear that he does not want to become a permanent replacement for Beebe.

Now it looks like the conference is ready to find his replacement.

Chuck Carlton of the Dallas Morning News reports that on Thursday the Big 12's board of directors will consider a search committee to begin looking for Neinas' replacement. Exactly who the conference may consider to become its next commissioner, there's no mention in the report.

The report goes on to say that the board will also get the latest update on the "legal wrangling" between West Virginia and the Big East as the school continues its pursuit of freedom from the conference. The Big 12 still plans on releasing its schedule for the 2012 season no later than Wednesday to meet its contractual obligations to its television partners.

So since Wednesday is signing day, maybe Chuck Neinas will unveil the schedule by pulling it out of one of two hats. One hat will just have the Big 12 logo on it, and the other will have a West Virginia logo.

Look for some Defense while you're at it Big 12, looks like you're going to trick another NFL team this year with another BUST QB called Akili Griffin the Third

Souperman ..... I am willing to bet it will be a from within hire. Unless they can get a commisioner from another conference to come in.

The UT OU connection started before the football series started in 1929.  Oklahoma was an original SWC college leaving in 1919 to join what would become the Big 8. The Big 8 originally offered Texas a place in the Big 8, Texas was adament about bringing along TT, T A&M and Baylor won out over Houston and TCU as the 12th member of what was to become the Big 12. The teams in the former Big 8 were in debt to OU for making them viable, the SWC to Texas for making them viable.

Report: Big 12 to search for new commissioner

This is bad news for the Big East. Neinas was his own man. He had his own voice, and as an interim commissioner, he had nothing to lose. He was consistently on record as favoring a 10-team league. The next guy may be more pro-expansion. If so, Louisville and Cincinnati could be targets, as soon as the dust settles on the WVU legal wrangling.

I also think it is bad news for the Big XII. The new commissioner will find himself in a difficult position. Neinas had the stature and the history to be a peacemaker and a uniter. I don't know if there is anyone else available like him. It will be crucial to get this hire right.

LOL @ an OU fan saying Texas rules the Big 12.  Texas and OU share the rule of the Big 12, they are locked together and will remain so. OU is just the UT north campus.  There are no other 2 colleges that have the control and power that the UT/OU connection have.

Charlie42s comment is very true. Beebe was OU's choice which just proves what I was trying to say. Texas hs the power to swing things their way and as long as they have this power it doesn't make any difference who they decide to hire for Commish. Texas seems to rule. It seems the rest of the University's have any backbone and I don't understand why.

You guys are fuuny, don't you realize that Beebe was OU's candidate? UT wanted somebody else. Even funnier is the ositive comments by Perlman, chairman of committee that selected him, after Beebe became Commissioner.<br />

Teres Minor. I see you have the same feeling about Texas as I do. As long as Texas is affiliated with the Big12/10 there will be turmoil. I have yet to figure out why the Big 12 big wigs think they need Texas. When Texas was thinking about jumping ship they should have supplied the life boats and told them happy sailing. The best thing that could happen for all conferences is for Texas to go Independent and then they could take their precious TV net work and sail in there own litttle pond. Texas is a great University with a great athletic program, but as along as they keep pushing their will on to other University programs, I think they are a cancer that just keeps growing. The Big 12 might as well hire Alfred E. Newman for Commish, because he will still do what Texas wants.
