Former Iowa running back Marcus Coker has found a new home, announcing on Monday that he had transferred to Stony Brook of the Big South Conference on the FCS level.

“I’m very grateful to coach [Chuck]Priore and Stony Brook University for this opportunity,” Coker said in a statement. “I’ve become aware of Stony Brook’s growing football program and outstanding academics. I’m excited for spring practice and the chance to help my teammates win a fourth straight Big South championship.”

Coker led Iowa in rushing last season, gaining 1,384 yards on the ground and scoring 15 touchdowns for the Hawkeyes. He was suspended for the team's appearance in the Insight Bowl for violating the school's Student-Athlete Code of Conduct.

Coker was being investigated for sexual assault after a woman claimed Coker assaulted her in late October. No charges were ever filed against Coker by the woman.

Stony Brook head coach Chuck Priore told Newsday that he did "due diligence" in researching Coker's family and personal background and that he felt assured Coker would be a "positive role model" at Stony Brook.

Since Coker is transferring from the FBS level to the FCS level he will be eligible to play in 2012 and has two years of eligibility remaining. Two years in which he plans to finish getting his degree as a double major in physics and astronomy.

Goes to show all the women have to do is cry wolf and they can ruin someone's life...Playing for Iowa he had at least a look at the NFL or a training camp invite, now he goes to Stony Brook and becomes an after-thought...

If Coker played for Michigan State, he would still be a starter and never have had to transfer.  OTOH, if he played for Wiscy or Minny, the legal system would have gone after him with everything they had.  We'll never know what Coker did or didn't do that night, but I hope he realizes how fortunate he is to even be on the street, what alone getting another scholarship to play football.

Hopefully, this is the only "second chance" he ever needs, and he learns that no really does mean no.  Even if you're a football star.

If the last football clip I ever see is Marcus Coker setting the Missouri safety on his @$$ in the Insight Bowl, then I'll die a happy fan!  Go get that National Championship for the Seawolves, and thanks for the memories.

If you all think this guy is going to stay at Stony Brook....well I have a bridge close by Stony Brook.  He transferred there cause he can play then transfer to a BCS school and not sit out he would have already done that.

I saw this kid play in high school and all accounts would say he was a good kid. If however he was charged, then found guilty, he should have to pay the price as those are the laws we live bye.

In this case though, no charges were filed and this kids reputation and future will be destroyed based only on allegations. Once the charge of rape is made you as a male are guility period. Will those kids from Duke ever get back what they lost? They were convicted from the beginning and nobody ever heard the first apology from the media, the university, or the accusers. This kid had a chance to play at the next level however he will be labeled and perhaps never a chance to achieve his goals in life.

Wow...Stony Brook? I went on a recruiting trip there and was turned off because it was a "suitcase" school, meaning most students went home on weekends. There is the exception of athletes as many are from different states. Well, now NYC is in his backyard but it seems as though he is an intelligent dude. Must make it to a game to see him play and hope he his an offensive line to help him.

For all you college athlete haters and the Iowa Kool-Aid adicts. I haver been told the whole story by someone connected to the Iowa football program who's nephews girlfriend is the girl assaulted. Marcus Coker took liberties with a legal aged intoxicated female. No charges filed. It was a very fine line between sexually promiscuous kids and date rape.

Sorry if I offend anyone, but, STONYBROOK ??????????????????????
; Yessir, I think there HAS to be a certain amount of "fire" with this issue and this young man.    I can only hope the coach at Stony Brook can square the guy around !!!!!!!!!!!      THIS is the advantage of a smaller school - more "individualized" attention !!!!!!!
