When asked about recruits that head to other programs, many college football coaches will say they only want to talk about the players that did sign. But Les Miles has never been one not to speak on any topic he's been asked about, and so at Wednesday night's "Bayou Bash" recruiting celebration, Miles said exactly what he thought of five-star LSU-commitment-turned-Notre Dame signee Gunner Kiel

"We needed a quarterback in this class. There was a young man from Indiana that thought about coming to the Bayou State," Miles said in reference to Kiel, "[but] he did not necessarily have the chest and the ability to lead a program. So you know."

Miles's emphatic delivery of his statement -- complete with "chest" hand gestures -- helped drive home his negative opinion on Kiel. Via the YouTube channel of the LSU student paper, the Daily Reveille, here's the video:

Miles goes on to praise new LSU quarterback signee Jeremy Liggins, who committed to the Tigers over his hometown Ole Miss Rebels in downtown Oxford.

It goes without saying, but we'll say it anyway: Miles going out of his way to slam a 17-or-18-year-old recruit in the sort of terms you'd hear from the lowest of sports talk-radio callers falls far, far below the standard of class we'd expect from one of the nation's most visible coaches. It's not just that Miles' willingness to sling mud at a teenager makes him seem childish and petty; it's that the swipe seems to be motivated by a need to pander to the worst instincts of the worst part* of his Tiger fanbase.

There's little doubt Miles hasn't gotten to where he is by being a saint, and we don't blame him for being frustrated by Kiel's decision. But by sounding more like a common dweller on an LSU message board than the man who heads up the entire LSU football program, Miles has let that frustration boil over into a decision he should apologize for at the first opportunity.

It was opnly a matterof time before the media got a hold of this one.  Who cares?  Les Mile is pissed because the kid renigged on his commitment, so f*&% Kiel.  If he wants to go to Notre Dame and be mediocre, let him go.  He passed up a golden opportunity by decommitting from LSU.  As desperate as the QB situation is at LSU, he could have been the savior.  Instead, he'll be the next Jimmy Clausen.  Life goes on! Geaux Tigers!

What did Les Miles say when the kid decommited from Indiana to commit to LSU, what was it that he said? He could not say anything, but I am willing to bet that a few of the statements were not that this quarterback could not be a leader nor lead this team.

I am willing to bet there was a gleam in his eyes and he could not wait until Feb signing day.

Now that the kid committed to notree dame (sp intended) the kid is now a player with no heart and cannot lead a team, and is not a leader?

Coach Miles if this is all-true, why in the hell did you get him to commit to LSU. It appears as if you are speaking with the other end of your anatomy or is a hypocrite? Which is it?

Perhaps you should check with members of your conference as to how to get a recruit to keep their commitment. Check with Auburn they have a good way of keeping their players happy and getting by the NCAA with penalty or losing scholarships.

You guys have a one thing in common you are both Tigers, so you ought to be able to speak Tiger to Tiger.

Now wait a minute. These 17 or 18 year old "Kids" have been going to all star camps for years, gotten alot of press, often have parents pimping them out to the highest bidder, are getting sex and clothes and money and other things thrown at them and we are supposed to treat them like babies? What a crock. Kiel acted like a selfish spoiled brat who couldn't make up his mind, forced schools to forego recruits because they thought he was coming, and miles is supposed to be quiet? Media like you turns these kids into junior franchises and you want us to act like they are beyond reproach? Sorry. Kiel acted like an ass and got called out for it.

Young people change their minds all the time.  With maturity, and some experience, they can finally make a decision they can live the rest of their lives with.  Mad Hatter rails on a kid that changed his mind.  Is he going to be this passionate when one of his players changes his major?  Probably not.  A little consistency Mr. Miles.

What ever happened to all a man had was his word?  Now a days a human beings word means nothing and that is shameful.

Kiel is a oile of crap for first signing with Indiana then backing out and verbally saying he was going to LSU then siging with Notre Lame.  At the end of the day he has no credibility.  He has shown he has no loyalty and his word means nothing.  He has no honor.  Hes a real piece of crap and if I was a coach I would call out guys like him too not because I am a prick but my god at what point do we start holding these kids accountable?  He is after all 18 years old he is old enough to vote so if hes not old enough for his word to mean something hes not old enough to vote and hes not a man.

Total F#%!ing scumbag Les Miles is!! Still crying like a bitch for getting his ass kicked in the Championship game. If any other coach acted like this they'd be suspended!  That was the smartest thing Kiel did distancing himself from this dirtbag. Good luck to you Kiel !!
I heard Les excused himself after that pathetic speech because he had some sheep to tend to!!

Before I commented I had to back out and check the site to make sure it was sports based as there is a lot of girl-like sniping going on in here. Les Miles showed who he really is - a man in love with himself. Good for the kid going elsewhere and honestly, all of you lsu fans out there complaining and bashing the kid need to get a life - just like your classless coach. The sun does not rise and fall on the sec just as it does not rise and fall on notre dame. These are 17 and 18 year old kids who barely know who they are beyond sports. Let them play where they are comfortable and want to play - and grow up to be serious, confidant leaders of men....instead of becoming trash like the qb from auburn that turned pro last year.
