Urban Meyer responds to fellow coaches' criticism

It seems Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer heard the complaints from fellow Big Ten coaches Bret Bielema and Mark Dantonio about his recruiting tactics on Thursday, and not surprisingly, he doesn't care.

According to Buckeye fansite the OZone, Meyer fired back while at the Ohio High School coaches clinic on Friday morning.

"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got 9 guys who better go do it again," said Meyer. "Do it a little harder next time."

Meyer also released a statement on Friday afternoon.

“I was pleased to take part in a productive, regularly scheduled meeting of the Big Ten Conference coaches today in Chicago," said Meyers in the release. "We had an opportunity to discuss a number of issues with each other and conference staff, including those that have arisen this week. It should be noted that my coaching staff is in full compliance with our recruiting efforts, and no one on this staff did anything illegal or unethical. We will continue to comply with NCAA rules and recruit with relentless effort, especially the great state of Ohio.
“I want to thank Commissioner Delany for his insight and leadership, and at this point we all look forward to moving past this week and getting ready for the start of spring football.”

This all started when Wisconsin's Bret Bielema and Michigan State's Mark Dantonio publicly criticized Meyer's recruiting tactics. Of the ten players that committed to Ohio State after Meyer became head coach, eight had previously committed to other schools. That includes offensive tackle Kyle Dodson (Wisconsin) and defensive end Se'Von Pittman (Michigan State).

Bielema also said on Thursday night that Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez was going to be talking to Jim Delany about Meyer's recruiting tactics. All because of a supposed "gentleman's agreement" -- an agreement that even Alvarez himself denied exists on Friday -- within the Big Ten that says coaches aren't supposed to go after another coach's commits while recruiting.

Which wasn't the way Meyer, or any coach, did things in the SEC, and it doesn't look like Urban is willing to adapt.

Urban Meyer responds to fellow coaches' criticism

From my point of view as a Michigan fan: Screw Urban Meyer, we are 1-0 against him and Tebow....

To everyone else: STOP WHINING, I hate, i HATE  ohio as much as anyone, but the guy flipped other kids... Hearing Dumbtonio and Beilema whine doesn't do anything but make them look like fools.

Go out and recruit PERIOD.

I too am sick of setting back and listening to these red necks from the North insult our intellgence because we are from the South and OWN College football! I have visited and lived North of the Mason Dixon line and I tell you my friends there are FAR many more people living in worn out school busses in Missouri, Michigan, and Maryland than I have ever seen in the most rural areas of Alabama!

Losttribe, You are truly an idiot! If it makes you feel better to call people from the south dumb hillbillies or rednecks then i feel for you. And where did you happen to go to school and what did you score on your ACT? There are plenty of highly intelligent people that were born and raised in the south. You can take your jabs all you want but i will take mine too. I know one thing that we in the south are better at and that is kicking arse in football!!!  ROLL TIDE ROLL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There used to be a time in this country when giving a man your word meant something.

Urban Meyer responds to fellow coaches' criticism

Here is the deal, ladies...  Urban Meyer said in a published report I saw this week that if a recruit tells him he is definitely committed to another school, he backs away.  Maybe true, maybe not.  BUT, what are the other coaches doing or not doing to keep their recruits in their camp?  Are they not staying in contact with their recruits (especially the 4 and 5 star guys)????  Or are they assuming because they verbally committed last summer that they will always stay committed??

Urban Meyer came to Ohio State about 2 months ago.  He brings his reputation and accomplishments with him.  You other guys should have KNOWN that this could happen and stayed on your commits like white on rice!!!

If you didn't and they got away to OSU, it's probably your fault.  With the size of the coaching staffs and only 25 scholarships to fill, you and your staff should have been in nearly daily contact down the stretch.  If the recruit lied to you, that's one thing, but for this many, you let your star recruits get away.  Too damn bad.

You'll know better for next year.  Or the next time a high profile coach like Coach Meyer comes to the Big Ten.

Spock" You are indeed a cartoon! You have NO idea what you are talking about! I guess you ASS/U/ME that all people from the South are "Hillbillies! Well guess what? Here is a link for you and ALL to see that both Alabama and LSU are far ahead in graduation rates than anyone in the Big Whatever. Excuse me! You FOOTBALL POWERHOUSE Iowa is ahead of Bama and LSU. Iowa has a 79% to 69% over Bama and LSU. NO OTHER BIG WHATEVER team is close. Get your facts straight! We kick ass on the feild and in the classroom

Dude, by just being academicaly eligible to enroll as a freshman to a school like Northwestern, Michigan, or Vanderbilt you would already have a higher education than a Bama or LSU 4 year graduate! Dumb Hillbilly, or is that an uneducated redneck?

Either way, who cares about the graduation rates at southern schools where all you have to do to enroll is be able to write you own name, count to 20, and be able to sing your ABC's

This is the same wussy who punked out on his UF contract. Comes a miracle healing (Did Tebow lay his hands on Meyer?) and he sports a brand new, even fatter, OSU contract. Meyer has proven that he has a big ethical deficit. His competition in the Big-10 should have expected Meyer's loose conduct.
