Urban Meyer responds to fellow coaches' criticism

It seems Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer heard the complaints from fellow Big Ten coaches Bret Bielema and Mark Dantonio about his recruiting tactics on Thursday, and not surprisingly, he doesn't care.

According to Buckeye fansite the OZone, Meyer fired back while at the Ohio High School coaches clinic on Friday morning.

"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got 9 guys who better go do it again," said Meyer. "Do it a little harder next time."

Meyer also released a statement on Friday afternoon.

“I was pleased to take part in a productive, regularly scheduled meeting of the Big Ten Conference coaches today in Chicago," said Meyers in the release. "We had an opportunity to discuss a number of issues with each other and conference staff, including those that have arisen this week. It should be noted that my coaching staff is in full compliance with our recruiting efforts, and no one on this staff did anything illegal or unethical. We will continue to comply with NCAA rules and recruit with relentless effort, especially the great state of Ohio.

“I want to thank Commissioner Delany for his insight and leadership, and at this point we all look forward to moving past this week and getting ready for the start of spring football.”

This all started when Wisconsin's Bret Bielema and Michigan State's Mark Dantonio publicly criticized Meyer's recruiting tactics. Of the ten players that committed to Ohio State after Meyer became head coach, eight had previously committed to other schools. That includes offensive tackle Kyle Dodson (Wisconsin) and defensive end Se'Von Pittman (Michigan State).

Bielema also said on Thursday night that Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez was going to be talking to Jim Delany about Meyer's recruiting tactics. All because of a supposed "gentleman's agreement" -- an agreement that even Alvarez himself denied exists on Friday -- within the Big Ten that says coaches aren't supposed to go after another coach's commits while recruiting.

Which wasn't the way Meyer, or any coach, did things in the SEC, and it doesn't look like Urban is willing to adapt.

Let's have the 17 year old kids make their own decisions.  He feels like tOSU is a better fit for him.  Deal with it.

Urban Meyer is exactly what OSU needed, a shot of adrenaline to get this program running on all cylindars again!  From his quote here he's sending a statement to the rest of the B1G.  "GET ON MY LEVEL!"

First of all Bielema is a monster d-bag. The guy is one of the biggest cryers and most unsportsmanlike coaches in the country. Anyone who watches B1G football on a reqular basis knows this. He loves to run the score up on lesser opponents and when he looses its always someone else's fault. So this whining is right up his alley. And Dantonio is probably still pissed that he wasn't offered the OSU job and that Tress is no longer there.

These guys better have some kind of proof that what Urb did was illegal or they better shut the hell up, And both of these guys were probably pitching to Ohio kids and OSU recruits how bad things were going to be at OSU in an attempt to get them to come to Wisconsin and Michigan State. Who is to say that these types of pitches aren't the only reason they committed to these schools initially.

See up in the Big Ten they also focus on something called "Educating" so it distracts them a bit from the football thing. Scan your college rankings of choice and you'll find the Big Ten schools on the front page, then skip to the last page to end to find the SEC. It is called "College" football after all.

Funny. Bret Bielema had no problem recruiting Melvin Gordon when he was already committed to Iowa. Now all of the sudden the shoe is on the other foot and he cries like a big fat baby. "Barry go talk to the Jim Delaney I can't find my big boy pants"

He's not being criticized for stealing recruits. The other coaches are pissed O$U lied to the recruits to get them to come. Telling a 17 year old Pittman that Adolphus Washington will be playing DT when clearly there's no plan for it, is dirty. Pittman will be on the bench for 4 years and basically has no chance to succeed behind Washington and Spence.

what a laugh, run the score up Bielema getting his Daddy to go talk to Delany about how mean Myer is....
Welcome to Big Boy football Big 10 !!
No wonder the SEC clobbers the Big 10 in the MNC game...
Not a Myer fan either...
Myer never beat AU at UF and he can't take losing...
But the way the rest of the Big 10  plays he may not lose  many especially if they react to him like this....
